  4. This is the first model created in my new LEGO room! I am fascinated with Soviet/Russian trucks from 1940 onwards. In the past, I built few ZIL/ZIS trucks but this had to be something special. This is a project in three parts: First I built this model, which is manual, and I will build two more, which will be motorized, and will come with instructions. I will took the base-chassis and cabin and make the rest different. In this case, it is the crane, In next two...cargo and halftrack! ZIS 5on wikipedia This is the real model: LEGO MODEL: This is 1:11 Scale model, made very accurately from official ZIS blueprints. Scale was determined with the tires. I use big 24x43 tires, and scale down the rest of the model accordingly. I took me about two weeks just to make rough measurements and make the rough model in MLCAD. The real truck is a nightmare regarding angles...they are everywhere. The cabin has angles in three planes. Fenders are rounded, boom is sloped and angled, doors and angled...and at top of that, the whole cabin is built in uneven number of studs in width and has a good portion built in SNOT. The color has to be red, of course. This version is manual. The other two will be motorized and sounded. Functions: Ackerman steering geometry with working steering wheel in the cabin and HOG Realistic working leaf spring suspension Working ultra detailed and realistic engine-connects to the gearbox and drivetrain, and soft hose to the chromed exhaust! Working 4 speed gearbox, with gearstick in the cabin Working crane- lifting, luffing and slew Working outriggers Openable doors on truck and crane Openable hood and side panels to reveal engine Transparent clear pieces on all doors to simulate glass. This truck is my personal favorite so far. It is supreme to all my others trucks regarding look, sturdiness and functions. I hope you like it, too. Please take a look at this short video: http://youtu.be/rW-p4CQp78Q More pictures at links in my signatures! Today I am start modeling the second one- Cargo version, with same chassis and cabin, just motorized and sounded!

  21. Well, everybody can buy instructions, and build one. It is probably more complex, challenging and interesting than set would be.
  22. The current big black one is 18 studs wide. I like new bucket, I just don't like triangular shape of the front section. If it was straight, it could be more applicable in MOCs. But it very usable, still.
