After around 6 months of work, the Golden Hall of King Theoden is finally complete. I didn't think we'd see an official one, for multiple reasons..so I decided to take a stab at it. My Custom Black Pearl now seems like a much easier design, as this was my first attempt at a modular build of a building, and not a fighter or ship. The roof is constructed in 3 sections, that lift off...the top, and the two side roofs. This allows access to a very detailed interior. My version is scaled down a tad..in order to put it on the larger gray baseplate, but I made sure the main details remained. The interior is loaded. It has a side room for the King's son to die in, the main hall with raised alter and throne. It even has a stool at the right hand of the king...for nasty Grimma. The alter has fire pots on both sides, and some flags in the back. Left side alcove has a small table for the king, and the main room has a fire pit, large gathering table, fireplace, and ale station. Funny, ..well not really.... the Strike Raptor , Classic Raider and Viper MKVII on page 11 look like my Brickstruct designs....but I did not see a shout out. :(

I don't claim to be an "expert", but a few years back I interviewed with Grant McCune at his model shop here in Los Angeles, and he had an X-wing (one used in Star Wars) in a plexiglass case in his shop. It was a base of white, with the other colors on top. I would not say it was anything close to glossy , or bright...but it was white. And my eyes were popping out of my head to be that close to the real thing.

I just finished my copy, and I like the NEW tie fighter better. The new X-Wing is light years better than the last version, but I still can't believe it lacks REAR landing gear. It looks awful sitting on those rear engines. If you take the time to design forward landing gear, make some aft....and get that bulk up off the floor. I designed my own x-wing early last year, and built this new store version to compare. It has some great stuff going on, I just wish they had added some landing gear, like I put on my version (below).

[pid][/pid] 117D First let me start off by saying thanks for all the inspiration one receives from checking out other ship builds on this forum. It's truly amazing some of what I've seen. After 4 months, and hundreds of hours I've completed my first ship. I wanted to build a "proper" Black Pearl, as I felt the official version was not quite there, so I used the game and tons of photo ref of the movie ship as inspiration. I'm quite happy with the final results. It has lots of details, and working features. Both anchors are chained to moving turnstiles, and can be raised and lowered. It features an accurate forecastle, with a forward set of stairs leading to the lower level. Lower level features brig, and rear hold for treasure and rum. Not to mention tons of tiled deck space for cannons. Each side features 11 opening gun ports, although I only have 4 mounted in the photo. The main deck will hold 4 large shooting cannons, and could hold other smaller ones. The capt's cabin has a working door, framed with lanterns, and has a map and rum table, and quite a bit of room. Dual staircases go up the upper deck, where I built a clear arched window (behind the mizzenmast) that looks, and lets light in, to the capt's cabin. The Foremast , and the Main mast have a crows nest, large enough to be manned. I guess the reason I say hundreds of hours, is because the model has an instruction manual, which I do to several of my models I get really excited about. The manual is what took me the better part of two months to create, as it's 108 pages long. The ship contains over 2,000 parts, many of which are from the official set. I will attempt to post more pics in the future, or at least on my brickshelf page once I get a chance! Thanks again for all the inspiration, and enjoy!

Thanks Philo, unfortunately I can't access LDD on my computer as it's running too old an OS. I noticed a lot of the parts on LDraw have your name as the creator, how awesome....any plans to maybe do the three ship Hull parts I mentioned at the top of this thread at any point?

I felt like there was life left in the Indy line as well...but that did not pan out to well. I have a feeling unless we get a POTC 5, we are not likely to see any more sets in the near future. Wondering what the next big Disney release will be to see a lego product line?

Or you are having my problem of the part existing in LDD, but not LDRAW...which is what Bricksmith uses.

Yes, I am running Bricksmith using the Ldraw library of parts, not LDD4. (I have to upgrade my computer to be able to run LDD4.) I need those hull parts as .dat files so they will work in Ldraw. So far, no one on Ldraw.org has created them. Hope this makes sense. I thought it might be possible for someone running LDD4 to convert those parts into .dat files........if that is even possible.

Hi,, I'm a noob to this part of the forum, but I have a question I was wondering if anyone could answer. I read someplace it is possible to convert parts from LDD to LDRAW. I use Bricksmith, and was trying to build my Black Pearl in LDRAW. I can't even start because right off the bat, parts do not seem to exist yet in LDRAW. I need parts 64645, 64651, and 95227 to even begin my project. These are the HULL parts from the newer pirate sets (Imperial Flagship, QAR and BP). If anyone knows how to do this, or has them in .DAT form...that would rock! Thanks for any help!

Ha, I love this request......and what a dream it would be! I create custom Lego instruction manuals, and this would be a HUGE undertaking for anyone. I can only imagine how many pages from start to finish....but how sweet it would be!

Looks to be more of colors in the correct parts to me. Most of that looks totally legit....it's just I don't think all those parts are available in those colors....................yet.

I got "Kraken" on my custom version of the Black Pearl this weekend. Put in a good 8 hours so far on it...and I can't believe how hard this design is turning out to be. With limited ref from the Video Game version, it's hard to scale it right. I got a lot done, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to redo the stern. I think the the cabin sits too high now. I wish we had a nice profile shot from the game, where you could see the entire ship. I did stagger the gun ports, and slope the sides. It's taking on great shape. Each side will have 11 flapped cannon ports, just like the video game version.. Biggest problem is parts.......I need to order more.

The Lego stores are now selling the BP, ahead of the normal release date. I got one of mine there. I think this is because Target and TRU are already selling them,....and the lego stores are losing business each day they have to hold them back.

Hey Captain, I wen't to your brickshelf page.....what are those white curved parts you have near the bow....not familar with those parts? I will put up a folder this weekend on my Brickshelf page, with shots of my modded QAR. thanks!

I just picked up my second one...so now I can start the build. Going to attempt to replicate, fairly closely, the video game version...but also using movie stills of the pearl as well for reference. I built up my QAR as well, giving it a top deck, more cannons, and enclosed cabin and stairs. Can't wait to get started on the Pearl! Wow, CAPTAIN, that looks pretty cool! Would love to see some more pics of that!

The QAR is more of a completed ship, it seems. The Pearl needs at least one more cannon. I think the $20.00 makes a big difference in what the designer can do. I would have like to have seen a more complex design like the video game for this one. It's really just not possible at this price point though. But I'm happy we at least get one, and can customize away! Why do I feel like this one may be the last POC set we get.....

Thanks, but aren't you able to login to ldraw and download just the parts you need? I enter those numbers under the parts tracker, and nothing shows up? Any advice about this?

Hi Skipper, I think those Hull pieces are old ones...from the BSB ship. The new hull pieces are different molds, and I plan to copy my model of the PEARL into LDRAW once I build it, (using the Video Game ship) as the model I want to get "close" to building. If you look closely , you will notice some BS-ing up around the bow. Those are not real parts......and it looks really fudged. Talking about the curved large Rail parts....most of the other parts around this area look real.
