  1. Has anyone else had this issue? I ordered 16 figs from Shop@Home for myself and 16 more for my wife. I'm not a big army builder so I was only looking for a few specific figs which I easily found just by feel. I went to return the remaining unopenned bags to my local Lego store and was told by the first two cashiers that customers were not allowed to return Series 3 Minifigs. I finally had to get the manager and show him the return policy on the receipt before they gave me a refund. This is the same thing I did with Series 1 and 2 and they didn't have a problem with it.
  2. I really like this cabin. I agree that having rounded "stick-out points" (don't know what else to call them) would have been more log-like, but I'm at a loss off the top of my head to figure out how TLG would have done that and made it look convincing. In the end, for a brick-built cabin I actually like the effect as is. I am also not a fan of the tree. What kind of branches are those supposed to be? Maybe I'm just looking at it wrong but I just don't get it. I won't be buying this set as Pharaoh, Atlantis, Harry Potter, and maybe even NinjaGo will be taking all my money, but a very nice set from TLG.
  3. I always think that TLG needs to add more female figs so I'm the most excited about kimono girl though the sailor sounds interesting, too. The surfer girl has me perplexed. Will it be much different than the life guard from series 2 with a surf board also from series 2? Maybe we'll get a 2-piece bathing suit.....or maybe a wet suit! But over all I couldn't have expected more since series 1 only had 2 female figs, series 2 had 3 if you count the witch and series 3 also has 3.
  4. As a bigger fan of historic themes obviously I love the temple. Haven't gotten any Atlantis sets before but will definitely be picking up at least one of those temples. That being said, the dark green angler is ADORABLE and very clever. As someone else said before me, this is one of the few themes that has gotten better and better over the years and I love the progression of the story line.
  5. I love the whole theme! The pyramid especially is what I'm looking forward to, and I just hope it has a nice interior. The one set that I'm the least impressed with is the cobra. I feel that the cobra's hood could have been brick-built. I don't think that would have been too difficult for them. And the jeep seems off to me. I love the other vehicles, but the wheels on the jeep seem too big and raise the body up too much. Should be easily MODed though.
  6. For all those wondering about the "historical truth" of my nativity, I have spent enough time in Sunday school to know that, no, many of the aspects of the "traditional" nativity set-up are false. It wasn't a barn. The wisemen showed up probably two years later. And technically the Bible never mentions camels. The wisemen probably showed up on horses if they were truly wise (camels being so unruly ). Speaking of horses, the Bible mentions a donkey in the stable and not a horse (but there is no Lego donkey thus my white steed). So I will leave the truly historical sets to the Bible scholars out there (actually I've seen some good historical ones on Brickshelf already). To Bingo Little: The angel is actually supposed to be singing. It's the head from the carolers in the Winter Toy Shop. Again the rosy cheeks aren't historical either as most scholars think Jesus was born around April.
  7. Thanks all for the kind comments. Baylego and Fires-storm, make sure you post your MOCs if you make them. I would love to see what you guys do with the theme.
  8. I hope I'm posting this in the right place since I saw Sirius discussing this a few posts back. Yes, TRU has a buy 2 get 1 for free going on currently and, no, many TRUs haven't put out their HP sets yet (my store has them all in boxes on the top shelf with giant stickers on them proclaiming "DO NOT DISPLAY UNTIL OCT 1st"). However, you can pre-order the HP sets from their website and the 3-for-2 deal still counts AND shipping is free for over $100. Just bought the castle, express and the burrows for $30 less than they would be at my Lego store even despite the mark-up. They just won't ship until Oct 2nd.
  9. The moment I saw the first images of PoP way back when and saw the awesome camels, I thought of only one MOC in particular...a nativity scene. Now, I've seen some really good nativity scenes around on Brickshelf and I think even here, but I thought I'd add my own to the mix. I had two goals: make it big enough to include all the main characters but not so big that it becomes burdensome to display. I wanted it to sit along side the other TLG Christmas scenes (like the Toyshop) and fit in size-wise. So without further ado, here it is... And a close up of Jesus, Mary and Joseph... The angel on top (I didn't like any wings I tried to make so I stuck with a cape. I figure if Superman flies with a cape, then angels can, too.) The shepherds come in from the west (with one sheep lagging behind)... I cannot take credit for the sheep directly. I didn't copy anyone in particular but I'm pretty sure I've seen this design somewhere before. So if you designed them, then I applaud you and give you credit. Next the wisemen from the east. The first sheds a few tears of joy, but the last guy seems a little TOO happy... Next is the scene without the people. I was tempted to throw in a pig as well to round out the farm animals, then I remembered that pork wasn't high on most Hebrews' diets. The rooster is directly from MMV. I'm most proud of the rafters and how they came out. I hope the pictures do them justice... Lastly the two sides including a scorpion that wants to look on, too... And there's my nativity scene. I hope you all like it. It's my first MOC so please be gentle with the suggestions (though they are all welcome). I wasn't sure if I should post it under "Historical" as it happened 2000 years ago or "Other Lego Themes" as it's more of a Christmas scene, so if it gets moved I'd understand. I really think that TLG could make a lot of money by making their own nativity set. They make a lot of sets for Christmas anyway and I don't think it would look out of place. I think they would sell well, but maybe they don't want to sell something so overtly religious.
  10. Great overall review! I also think that a second wave could have been made. There were locations and characters not Lego-ized that could have stood a chance at selling well. Lego has, at least to some degree, tried to add many different cultures to its list of themes (Caribbean, Native American, Asian) and I think it was about time Middle Eastern architecture was showcased and I for one loved the look of the sets. But for me, the 3 main reasons why I love PoP are: camel, kiffeyeh, and the three-clawed hand weapon (awesome!). Slightly off topic, I just watched the movie for the first time and I have no idea who Asoka is from the Fight for the Dagger set. Was he in the movie?
  11. Wow, so many possibilities! Like many have said before I don't want svelte to tell us anything just yet. First we get all these great HP sets coming up soon, then knowing that something even bigger is on the horizon makes me giddy. If it's going to be a truly BIG set I'd like to see either 1) a full Hogsmeade with the Hogs Head, Three Broomsticks, Zonkos and even the Shrieking Shack or 2) (which is what I think it is) a full Diagon Alley including Gringotts with an underground rail system ala Temple of Doom with a dragon included. Is this just wishful thinking? Likely but it is the wishful thinking that makes it so much fun!
  12. I loved all the entries, though not being a regular on the Classic-Pirates boards I actually didn't get some of them. But still...good work all around! My votes are as such: 3 pts - Mcfarlandman - Worthy of the Sunday funnies! Wait, based on strips like "Cathy" thats not saying much. BETTER than the Sunday funnies! 2 pts - Capt. Thomas Foolery - Good use of a "censored" sign
  13. I can think of very few uses for the Toy Story armymen bases so HUGE props to you for blending them in seamlessly. But my favorite part is the roasted marshmallow!
  14. I'm torn between the elegantly crafted Cannon Foundry by Exotrator and the playful yet disturbing Orphanage by badboytje88 . In the end my vote goes to the Orphanage cuz I'll always go with the underdog (I think the Cannon Foundry has enough votes by now).
  15. I got this set about a week ago and really love it. Very swooshable (as my wife stared at me oddly). Also really sturdy which I like and the cockpits were well conceived. Inky, very good review. The pictures were good so whatever lamp you used worked well.
  16. Yes, I'm one more person saying "OMG I love it! Thank you TLG!" Having most of the very first line of pirates, I've been fairly disappointed with many of this year's sets to date, Soldiers' Fort being the shining exception. Really just not up to the caliber that TLG brought with sets like Eldorado's Fortress and the always impressive BSB. The bare-bones BB just seemed a bit thrown together. However, this Flagship obviously took a lot of hardwork and careful design. I don't mind the lack of rigging as it allows modularability (is that a word?) which is a HUGE plus. Add in the great cabin, deck, kitchen AND brig? Many older ships were lucky to just get a cabin! Kudos to you TLG. Kudos.
  17. I will have to get multiples of the Green Army Men. LOVE IT! I like the giant Zurg and Buzz, but not for me. However, I missed the Wild West theme when it was out years back (my dark ages) so REALLY looking forward to sheriff's office and salon. Gotta have it!
  18. What could Lego possibly be thinking? Of course Americans will buy this up. Consider me signed. WE CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS TOO!!!
  19. It's been mentioned by a couple people, but I think the real thing missing in this set is cannons. Why are there horses? (besides the obvious...they are knights.) Maybe they are too long or something but I think it was a pretty big oversight. I do, however, love how the pawns have different "weapons". Very comical.
  20. Like just almost everyone else before me, I LOVE the army men. I hope a Battle Pack is not too much to hope for. I have a feeling TLC will need to make 10 times more of which ever set the army men come in compared to the other Toy Story sets. Also, I think RC was superbly made. Speaking of sets, and I hope I'm not off topic on asking this, but does any one have any actual news on what kind of sets these two themes will have? Lastly, I agree with Klaus-Dieter from a few pages back in that TLC may have saved themselves some money if they made up their own Arabian Nights theme instead of paying to make PoP. Love the figs but just not sure if they needed the brand name of "PoP".
  21. My first impression of this set is that I like it. To me it has a "fun" factor. Does it have cons? Yeah, the gun turrets look too big, the engine section APPEARS too small (though I betcha they got all 11 in there), and there won't be hardly any room inside. But to be honest, in order to have a full inside capable of playing out some ANH scenes, the whole ship would be enormously massive (the engine section is easily twice the size of the mid section). In the end, for what we're able to get I'm happy.
  22. I'm not usually a technic fan, but thought I'd check out the Snow Groomer and see what all the hubbub was all about. Have to say it looks pretty cool. Love the multidirectional, multifunctional joy-stick. A lot of effort must have gone into that design. However, does it look like the cabin is leaning a bit too forward? When I googled images of a snow groomer (wish I knew how to post a comparison pic) I can see where they got the idea to do so but it seems a bit extreme.
