  1. That shark looks positively evil. If I end up buying anything from this theme, It'll be for the sea creatures. ...and King Cthulhu. ...and the exclusive minifig heads. I'm going to have to set aside more money for my Lego budget.
  2. I just watched the trailer. Did anyone else notice the Tinkertoy built rail bridge Andy apparently drove the train off of? It's kind of hard to tell from the screengrab, but those do look like Lego train wheels. Seems like an interesting strategy. Put a Lego set in the movie, and then release it as a tie-in? Brilliant! Good job finding this!
  3. I've got two, for exactly this purpose. Both green, both bought from the Lego store. Now I just need to get around to building a case so I don't keep losing them.
  4. This goes without saying, but it really is a beautiful ship. It also goes without saying that very soon TLG will be getting another large chunk of my money. I really like how the yards are designed. (I hope I'm getting the naval terminology right -- correct me if I'm wrong. I'm referring to the horizontal arms that hold the sails.) Either way, I'm going to attempt to reverse-engineer the design for use on Brickbeard's Bounty. The only criticism I can think of, and this is no more than a nitpick, is that I would have liked to have seen a bit more dark blue instead of the light blue stripe and blue gunports.
  5. Signed. There seems to be a couple of western-themed sets in the upcoming Toy Story line, so who knows? Maybe Lego will notice the sales and make a new western theme. Though their recent decisions certainly taxes one's optimism. *is still angry about Pirates*
  6. I'm trying to make a choice between the following: Medieval Market Village OR The Power Functions components necessary to motorize the Emerald Night They would both cost approximately the same, and I only have enough money for one. Seeing as I'm almost to the point of flipping a coin, I thought an outside perspective might be beneficial. So...Care to help out an indecisive AFOL?
  7. Edit Bonaparte: A kind lady asked us to remove some info which was not intended to go public. Still, we can continue this good discussion! It's about: 1. How would you feel if TLG replaces the name "Castle" by another name? 2. Which alternative names do you prefer?
  8. Signed, -The Hyphen- I just hope they don't replace Pirates with a POTC theme. I guess it would be better than no pirates at all, but still... Either way, let's try to have a happy Talk Like a Pirate day.
  9. My reaction to this, in one word: Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!! This... This is outright horrible. But we mustn't be pessimistic. Maybe there will be a few more sets released before the line ends. Why would they select an ambassador from Classic Pirates if they were going to cancel the line? It makes no sense! Hopefully Lego will listen to the inevitable outcry and re-resurrect the line after a year or so. It can't hurt to hope.
  10. [pirate voice] Arr! I'll be signin' me name for tha cause, then. Now what'd I do with me quill? [/pirate voice] -The Hyphen-
  11. Thanks for all the comments everyone. To answer your questions: Yeah, something like that. I've been assuming he'd just lean over to the side a bit to look around the engine.
  12. ENTERED None of you really know me, so I'll start off by introducing myself. Hello. I am -The Hyphen-, self proclaimed mad scientist, engineer, and AFOL; anachronistic, anarchic, and completely out of my mind. Nice to meet you all. Now that the formalities are taken care of, allow me to present my creation, the propellor-driven railcar. And just in time for it to still be considered train month. Yay! Inspired by the airplane-engine-mounted-to-a-train-car rig used by the MythBusters to test the "Shredded Plane" myth, (A video of the test can be found )as well as the few propeller-driven locomotives that exist. The most famous of these, the rail zeppelin, currently holds the land-speed record for a petrol-powered rail vehicle. Sadly, it is not motorized, so I use a plain 9v motor to push it around my layout. I do intend to create a proper MOC thread for this once the competition is over. Any and all questions, comments, concerns, or criticisms would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
  13. Well, it seems I've finally been coaxed out of lurking. Greetings. I am -The Hyphen- I have a creation I plan on submitting in Category 2, but first I'd like to ask a question. The rules state: For clarification, does this mean at least one picture or only one picture? Thanks in advance.
