  1. If it's just random, and assuming that the figures only have the parts shown (but we still get 5 parts per bag - head, torso, legs, hair/hat and accessory), there is a 1 in 442368 chance of getting the complete fig (all 5 parts) you want in one bag. That's just assuming ones that have 5 parts, obviously it changes for ones like the zombie (3 parts only needed, so only 1 in 4096 for him). Now, I'm afraid I don't know exactly how to do the whole 99% confidence level calculations, which is annoying, given I'm fairly sure I learnt them in 1st year of my degree. Baysian statistics can tell you some things, but not everything, which is what we've covered this year (the joys of final year physics degrees). Either way, that should give you some idea of the numbers we're looking at having to get to get a complete collection, without swapping. Not cheap. If they do come properly packed, all the same, it will be slightly easier. But equally might get more frustrating as you can't tell what you're getting, so you end up with 20 zombie cheerleaders with a syringe and caveman hair.
  2. According to Peeron, I have: 82 Sets (82 Unique), 262 Minifigs, 29,586 Parts, worth $2,949. That's probably about £3000 thanks to the conversion, but obviously that doesn't include the price some of them go for now. Oh, and that's only the sets I've bought myself, mainly Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and the Medieval Market Village ( ). Not bad, for a student. Explains why I'm always hungry, at least! In the loft there's all my brother's sets and the ones I got when I was younger. It's about 2 huge boxes, about 50kg each (we weighed them on bathroom scales, so no idea how accurate that is). The boxes are made up of sets mainly from the 80's and 90's, and a lot of Castle and Space sets in there. No idea how much they're worth, but probably about another £500, I'd guess.
  3. While it looks pretty good, the only new element I can see is the helmet; you can get the chrome plated megaphone on bricklink, I think. But, if you want to know who the website is run by, it's The spoiler is just in case you don't want to know, and continue with the mystery.
  4. That does seem more likely, given the dates on the sets it came in. Was sure I also had some that went on top... Oh well, it's been a long day, and I think I'm too tired for remembering correctly! Thanks for finding the piece though. At least I was sort of right, just the wrong way up!
  5. Good review of a set I'd nearly forgotten about. Just one thing though: I seem to have loads of these in the boxes of Lego I got from my older brothers (early 80's to mid 90's), so surely they must have been in other sets? It could be I'm missing some vital detail that's different, but I do remember building a lot of planes back in the mid 90's with these engines. Probably just my mistake, but was just wondering if anyone knew why.
  6. There was a mini one, but it wasn't an actual set. It came on parts like the TIE Bomber mini, with the series that contained the AT-AT I believe. I know I had one, and I think it was pretty similar to the bag charm, just a few years ago.
  7. They've done double sided faces more recently than that. The jester in the castle sets and Captain Antilles from the Tantive IV this year spring to mind, so there's every chance he is. It would seem strange for them to do two heads for clones in a set, so I imagine they're both the same, just one is on backwards.
  8. Nice review. It's a shame that I haven't actually been able to get near a Smiths or Toys R Us this week, but have been getting the Mirror anyway (then recycling it without doing more than removing the vouchers). Shame I can't try and get multiples, as the £5.99 for sending it in would add up rather quickly.
  9. Hello, I'm Ben, as you may have guessed from my username already. I collect mainly Star Wars sets, but also the original Indiana Jones ones (Kingdom of the Crystal Skull never happened as far as I'm concerned. Shia LaBoauef ). I'm officially an AFOL now, being 20, but was a TFOL when I joined. I've been lurking round for a while, posting only a few bits since April, but have now reviewed the Tantive IV in the Star Wars forum (Link). I mainly display my sets, with little to no modding or moccing. I've been collecting since the Episode III line came out, but was also around for the very first lot way back in '99. Other than Lego, I'm a third year university student studying Astrophysics, which doesn't leave me with a lot of free time. Or space, thanks to cramped uni houses. Thanks for reading. I tend to write a little too much, but then I'm used to having to do lots of writing for my course!
  10. Wow! Never expected for the review go this well. Thank you for all the comments about the ship. And tanks Svelte for helping fix my review. Completely missed that I'd put the wrong number in the title! I have to agree with you, Klaus-Dieter, about a lot of the cons, though I can see why they didn't do the corridor scene. The part with Leia's office is too short to get figs to stand up in while the lid is down, and it's too short to fit a door in. It would have been nice, but I'm sure it won't take long for one of the amazing modders here to get to work on it. I'll see what I can do, darkrebellion. I've moved the Gunship and Endor bunker down to where I took the photos yesterday, but it's too bright in there till the afternoon, for some reason there are no curtains in there, and I can't find any sheets anywhere. If there are any other comparisons that people want, I can do most (though I'm afraid I don't have the Republic Cruiser or the UCS version, yellost). I'm going to photograph my three Leias that I have to hand, but I can already see the faces are slightly different. Looks like I am frontpaged, which is cool (thanks again Svelte!). The wheels work in that when you lift the front slightly, they let you rotate the ship much easier. They don't help in moving it forwards or backwards, and they grip purely by the weight of the Tantive alone pushing down. It's not that exciting a feature (no pushing it along a table to make it look like it's flying), but they do help positioning it on shelves to get the right angle. Almost as long as my review, but I hope this answers some questions that were raised! Edit: And just like that, I can take photos in the room again. Here are a few comparing with the Republic Gunship: Too dark because of the light, but it gives a nice silhouette look to them: Endor Bunker: The four Leias from left to right are the newer X-Wing, Endor Bunker, Death Star and finally Tantive IV: The Leia from the Death Star (left) and the Tantive IV Leia (right): There is a slight difference, but not much. The eyes are slightly smaller, and the lips have been cut on the right hand side slightly, but not enough to contact TLG about though. Have put in a broken piece form for her hair, as that definitely is wrong.
  11. Hello, and welcome to my review of the Tantive IV, the final Star Wars set of 2009. Let's start with some photos. To begin, the front of the box: And the back: Slightly better than the one the old Tantive IV box, from Rufus's review. Actual pictures this time. A close up of some of the fun play features, such as Princess Leia in a meeting, and the rebels pretending to be postmen: Next the instructions. No real surprises here; two standard booklets with good black/dark bley differentiation. Only problem is that sand coloured vents look yellow. Just the usual junk on the back, same as it’s been for some years now. Random instruction page, showing attaching the engine block onto the main superstructure, made mainly of technic beams: The pieces. Just a few too many to fit on one photo, but gives you an idea of how big the set seems, but also how small it is compared to the Death Star. Something to note and be happy about though: no stickers! Everything is printed! On to the mini-figs next. Here we see the rebel we got in the Rebel Speeder battlepack, new dome R2-D2, and the gold C-3PO: Next we have Princess Leia sporting the chocolate fondant hairstyle, thanks to a miss-mould. With her is the only new fig in this set: Captain Antilles: Antilles also comes with a second face, for being strangled by Darth Vader. I feel really sorry for him, the poor little guy: Next, the only interesting, new parts are the cockpit parts, which are printed. They look so lovely, and are much better than if they'd be stickers as was once feared: And so, the build. These photos show how it builds up from near the start, to half way the first book with through with the engine block attached, and Leia for scale: With the engine "pods" attached: And now the whole engines, and the yellow disks. Shame they're the wrong colour (I think), but still a good effect. The escape pod: Little cramped in there. Looks more like a hot tub. The second escape pod, with a dark bley smooth tile in place of a white one: Escape pods attached: The underneath of the Tantive IV, showing the lower laser cannons, and my favourite part: the set of four wheels near the back to allow for easy rotation: The little rebel transport. Not entirely sure why it's there, but it's something I suppose: The finished cockpit and how it can tilt back: Spares: Well, the red triangles aren't, but I only realised after I'd put them away. Managed to find them, but not the rest. And finally, the complete model: Leia's office: Storage space for the transport: Some comparison picks with chocolate fondant Leia again: Told her not to stand too close to the engines... The only place left to put plans in R2: Overall Design: Very well designed, and externally similar to the movies. Inside though, the lack of any corridors for the opening scene is a bit of a letdown, but otherwise good. Build: Rather quick, only 4 hours. Not too repetitive, even with the engines, as most are slightly different Pieces: Mostly common ones, only real stand-out ones are the cockpit pieces. Swooshability: Just, if you can find a place to hold it from with it falling apart. Quite heavy though. Playability: With Leia's office you can enjoy many fine hours of politics, or pretend to be a postman with the rebel transport. No flick fire missiles (which is always good), so despite the look of it, it is more of an adult's model. Price: In the UK, it's £100, which isn't too bad. Would rather slightly less, but with the way prices are going, we're lucky it's not £150+Minifigs: Minifigs: Only one new one, but with the extra face, it is a good new fig. Overall, this is a must buy set for anyone who likes the OT, or just generally good models. For a score, I'd say maybe 8.5/10 Thank you, and goodnight! Sorry, about some of the photos, but I seem to have lost my nice camera somewhere... Link to the original photos (when moderated): http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=400979 KimT: can you please add a poll as well, as I have no idea how to do that. Thanks!
  12. From this: They are new, we just saw them yesterday. The pictures in the video do seem slightly clearer though. Edit: And you've edited quicker than I can post. Oh well. Maybe let others know we already have the pictures before they post them again.
  13. I ordered mine on Friday morning, and it was shipped this morning. Knowing how the post works, it should get here (UK) Wednesday or Thursday, so if no-one else has done anything by then, I'll see what I can do.
  14. The chrome Stormtrooper is now on UK S@H, for £5.20, but is listed as coming out on 30th July. This does mean that it's not actually able to be purchased yet, even as a pre-order.
  15. For anyone in the UK without one, TRU are still giving them away for purchases over £40, but this will end soon. Asked a member of staff at the Portsmouth branch about them today, apparently they've had their last lot in, and only have one small box left to go under the tills. Had to ask the cashier to actually get one, but he looked to have about 10 left at that till. As a side note, there were no new sets from what I could see. There were still some Imperial Landing Craft (my choice for the chrome Vader), but mostly overpriced sets that are still on Shop-at-Home.
  16. Sorry, forgot to say that it was a UK email. It seems to be that the Venator is the only one the accept as actually existing now on the UK site, while the others are down as not available in this country.
  17. Just got an email from Lego, and it looks like only the Venator is the only summer set available now. Hopefully the others won't be too long coming though. Oh, and hello. I've been lurking for a while, but this is my first post.
