Brickworld 2010 Registration and Brickworld Indy
BrickworldBryan replied to BrickworldBryan's topic in Brickworld
Hey now...I know that isn't true...and I know that isn't true because there is not a drop down list But, when Registration for Brickworld 2010 opens on January 1, feel free to register and enter Norway as your country...you will probably be the first non-US registrant...and, who knows, that might be worth something Everyone have a Merry Christmas...or Happy Festivus...or whatever you decide to celebrate this holiday season. Play Well, Bryan -
Share - Learn - Explore - Discover The team at Brickworld is excited to announce that registration for the 2010 event at the Westin will open on January 1st. We look forward to seeing everyone in Chicago in June. We are presently updating the web site to provide an improved registration experience. The updates will be rolled into the web site over the next couple weeks and ready for January 1st. One of the changes will be a modified home page. The home page will show the Brickworld event at the Westin and a new event called Brickworld Indy. Brickworld at the Westin in Chicago is THE convention, THE AFOL event, THE place you want to be. Brickworld Indy is a new concept. It is a public exhibition only (similar to Saturday and Sunday of the Brickworld convention in Chicago). Brickworld Indy is a partnership between Brickworld and IndyLUG. The intent of the exhibition is to showcase the creations of IndyLUG to the public. So, there is no convention side, no on line registraiton, no raffles, and it is not open for anyone to display. However, it will still be a fun place to hang out on Saturday & Sunday and see friends and we would love to have AFOLs around to enjoy the event. We hope to see you in June at the Westin for Brickworld 2010!! The theme is picked...the event kits are designed...the artwork is in process...things are in full swing. Don’t wait. Start building now and remember to include lighting for the 2nd annual World of Lights Collaboration. Stay tuned for more information. Best Regards, The Brickworld Team Brickworld will be held June 17 - 20, 2010 at the Westin North Shore Hotel in Wheeling, IL (a suburb of Chicago). Brickworld Indy will be held March 13 and 14, 2010 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, IN. visit the Brickworld Web Site by clicking here

I missed the part where your MOC is required to be complete when it is displayed...This would be especially true for an apoco display...just dump an extra pile of bricks next to it with a couple of turquoise bears with rocket launchers on top of it and call it "done for now" No need to be a perfectionist...please reference one of my entries for the world of lights this year. It was called Procrastination. I am sure there is a picture of it on Flickr or MOC pages somewhere. But seriously...just glad that you are going to give Brickworld a visit!!! I hope you have enough fun that you are sorry you didn't attend the entire event Bryan

I am almost, nearly, just a hair width short, close to, really really really sure that I might be there. What is this event all about anyway?

World of Lights - What are you doing?
BrickworldBryan replied to BrickworldBryan's topic in Brickworld
1 - you can delete your own posts on this forum 2 - YES - we announced at closing ceremonies that World of Lights WILL RETURN in 2010!!!! Bryan -
Hey everyone. We (the Brickworld Coordinator Team) are absolutely thrilled that you are already discussing Brickworld 2010. We are doing the same thing quietly on our closed forum. Brickworld has definitely turned into a year round endeavor. Just to be clear - any statement made about the 2010 event by anyone other than me right now is strictly speculation and rumor. We have made no decisions about themes, allowable table space or even how you will be able to sign up for tables yet. I do want to set the record straight on a few things I am reading in this thread: 1) While it is not posted here on Eurobricks (yet) there is a notation about Bricikworld fundementals over on our Flickr page. I encourage you to read it. It clarifies that we are not a "theme" or "club" oriented event. Our concept is "community" and we are all part of ONE community. Read more there about why we call some areas "Collaborative Displays". I would really be thrilled if these fundementals were to become the forefront of the reasons we do things together 2) Having the "whole hotel" means we have up to another 5,000 square feet of display space next year. That is only a 20% increase over this year. So, display space will hopefully be at a premium and we can all bring our best and newest MOCs. Again, we are all excited about this discussion and your ideas. So, just keep logging them here for now. And, we will keep reading. Thanks for everyone's enthusiasm and support. Bryan, Adam and the Brickworld Team

Brickworld Exhibit Setup Info & Logistics
BrickworldBryan replied to BrickworldBryan's topic in Brickworld
MOC card info is...scratch that... was due on June 1st via your registration on the BW web site. Cards have been edited for spelling and grammar (plus a few for being too wordy)....sized to fit and printed already. Sorry.... Your only option is show up at the registration desk with your words printed out nicely and sweet talk Kathie into setting up the merge and printing them for you when you arrive. She won't have time to deal with it any sooner than Friday morning at best (if at all). Again, sorry that we can't promise to get more done at this point. Bryan -
Share - Learn - Explore - Discover Thank you again for registering to attend Brickworld this year! We are looking forward to a dymanic event this weekend. To kick things off, WGN-TV will be visiting Brickworld for their "Around Town" segment on Friday, June 19. The WGN truck will arrive at 6 a.m. and begin taping shortly thereafter. All are encouraged to visit the ballrooms and their MOC's during the taping- you (and your MOC) just might be featured as a Brickworld attendee and invited to speak about why you are attending the event! It will be an early morning but a great way to show Chicagoland just what Brickworld is all about! We look forward to seeing you this week! For any questions related to WGN and media, please contact us using the cotact us link on the Brickworld website. We will see you all in a few days. Best Regards, The Brickworld Team Brickworld will be held June 18 - 21, 2009 at the Westin North Shore Hotel in Wheeling, IL (a suburb of Chicago). visit the Brickworld Web Site by clicking here

Share - Learn - Explore - Discover With only a couple days to go until the big event, please take note of the following information for setup and takedown: Location: The Westin Chicago North Shore 601 N. Milwaukee Avenue Wheeling, Illinois 60090 Phone: 847-777-6500 Fax: 847-777-6510 Check-in: 3 PM Check-out: 12 PM Noon Directions: If you require assistance with directions from the airport to the hotel, or driving directions from a specific location, please contact the hotel first, and if you need further help, please contact Kevin. Package Shipment: If you have shipped or plan to ship packages directly to the hotel, there is a package handling fee for this service. Please contact the hotel directly prior to your stay in order to obtain exact pricing fees and related information. Unload & Exhibit Setup * Unloading & setup begins promptly at 4pm on Thursday, June 19th for each of the three ballrooms (Ravinia, Lake Michigan, and Botanic). No one will be allowed into either room before that time. Please make an effort to have all your club members (if part of a club) arrive prior to 4pm if possible. If you arrive prior to 3pm, park in the North parking lot (to the left as you enter the Westin main entrance). If you will be arriving after 6pm, please see or call Kevin for unloading instructions. * Starting at 3:30pm, we will have a several volunteer staff members available to direct you to your proper unloading zone. If you are already parked at the hotel, please meet by the North loading dock. If you are arriving between 3:30 pm and 5:30 pm, as you pull into the hotel, you will see a staff member in a red brickworld polo who will direct you to the proper loading zone. They will ask for your name and/or club affiliation and direct you appropriately. Once at the loading zone, another staff member will provide you with your room setup location and instructions for unloading through the two approved Load Doors. Maps of the show floor will be provided for you with your setup space clearly marked on it. Extra copies will be available upon request. * If you require specific assistance to unload your vehicle, please let Kevin know at this time, so he can assign one of our volunteers to help. During load-in, please remember the following guidelines: * Get your vehicle(s) into the proper queue. Queue order will generally be first-come-first-serve per vehicle. Your patience and understanding is appreciated and be aware that we are all working together to ensure that everyone unloads ASAP. * The roadway behind the hotel is small and traffic only flows one direction: north. Driving south behind the hotel will cause a traffic jam from the people coming the other direction. Please be aware of the signs noting such so that we can avoid bottlenecks. * Small boxes are the -only- items that may be brought in through the hotel lobby doors. When bringing in boxes by hand, the hotel has requested that we use the glass doors on the SOUTH side of the hotel only. Everything entering through these doors needs to be HAND-CARRIED. All large exhibits (modules, tables, large boxes, carts, etc) must load through through the approved Load Doors. * We have been told that a couple flatbeds will be provided by the hotel for load in. Please return these as quickly as possible so other groups may use them as well. * Once you pull up to your Load Door, unload your stuff through the service corridor into your room and place in your space. Your area will be marked on the show floor, and will correspond to the location marked on the provided map. Please do not set up right away, but continue to unload your vehicle and then move your vehicle back to the parking lot so that the next vehicle in line can start unloading. * We are asking that everyone please pitch in and help everyone else unload their stuff where possible before setting up. This will help us expedite unloading and allow everyone to setup faster. * The BW Registration desk will be open during the evening * Note that the Michigan, Botanic and Ravinia ballrooms will be closed and secure from Midnight until 6am daily so keep this in mind for setup. * Once your area is all setup, you may notice a set of stanchions allocated to your set of tables. We will be distributing stanchions to each of the general areas that require them. We ask that once your displays are all set up, that you distribute them evenly around the tables for your area. We will provide a map of the stanchion layout for each area as a reference. Once the stanchions have been distributed, a Brickworld staff member will be around to secure them. See Kevin Lauer with any questions regarding this. Breakdown * Public Exhibition ends at 3 PM on Sunday. We ask that you please do not start to break down before this time. However, we also understand that some exhibitors may need to leave earlier than this, and for those people, we ask that you be discreet when doing so. NOTE: You will not be able to bring hand trucks or carts into the show during the hours of the public exhibition for safety reasons. * If you require specific assistance with the breakdown of your exhibit, please contact Kevin Lauer so that he can assign a volunteer to assist you. * Please pack up all boxes prior to bringing your vehicles to the Load Doors. You should be removing your boxes from the exhibition hall through the same corridors you brought your displays in from. If you unloaded by the North Load Zone, please load your vehicle from the same location. Same goes for the South Load Zone. * Once again, only small hand-carried packages may leave through the South GLASS doors. Hand carts, trucks, and flatbeds -cannot- go through these doors. * Once you have all the packages for a vehicle ready to be brought outside, please queue your car up to the loading dock. We will try to have volunteer staff on-hand to help you load your vehicle. Once your vehicle is packed, please promptly remove it from the queue so that others may load up their vehicles as well. * If you have the available time and energy to help out with loading up vehicles it is always appreciated. Please contact Kevin Lauer if you wish to volunteer your time. Other Notes * If you did not request tables for your exhibit through the Brickworld website, please contact Kevin Lauer or Bryan Bonahoom upon arrival at the hotel in order to be assigned an exhibition area or to get on a waiting list. Currently all tables have been apportioned out to exhibitors, however, we foresee the possibility that some exhibitors planning to attend may not be able to make the show or those that do arrive will discover they have requested too much space. Obviously we want to give everyone a place to display everything, but please understand that unused display space will be given out on a first-come, first-serve basis as it is acquired. * If you have set up your display and are not using the entire space assigned to you, please, please, please make sure to let Kevin or Bryan know so that we can look into re-assigning that space for other use. Thanks. * As always, if you have any questions not covered by this document, feel free to contact us for clarification or ask upon arrival at the event. See you all there! There have been several comments about stealing MOCs made recently. While we can't guarantee anything, to the best of our knowledge only one small MOC and a couple of mini-figs have disappeared in the first two years of the event. We would prefer that you keep your display up through the upblic hours on Sunday. It takes away from the event when there are empty tables. But, we understand necessity too. So, please use your best judgement regarding when to take down your display. Too bad you are missing the closing ceremonies. You miss out on some great raffle prize opportunities. Regards, Bryan

Please reference my post regarding the WGN rumor. They were supposed to be there last year and bailed out at the last minute...luckily we didn't announce it and no rumor leaked. So, nobody was even aware it fell through. We hope to have final confirmation tomorrow that WGN will actually be there. THEN I will announce it wholesale everywhere. Just like Kjeld and Jorgen coming to the event, we didn't announce it until it was 100% confirmed. That all being said, I agree with you 100%. The sooner we can announce things like this, the better it is for everyone. Unfortunately, we have to weigh it against the risk of something falling through and disappointing people. I hope you understand the dilema. But, since the rumor is hanging out there and people obviously have aingst over our silence, we thought it would best serve everyone to add this information. Stay tuned for a post on WGN tomorrow night. Best Regards, The Brickworld Team

Yes, Animal House...it was the origin of my quote also :) B

(Bryan - in his best Kevin Bacon voice) Everybody please remain calm 1) Yes, the on-site PAB is Saturday afternoon (not on Friday as originally planned) 2) No, it is not at 4 PM. It is at 4:30 PM (I missed it on the on-line schedule - fixed now) 3) No, you won't have to abandon your displays while the public hours are still ongoing to secure your place in line 4) We are devising a sign up system and we will put people in order to get to the PAB Please be prepared to have limits on the amount you can purchase imposed so that as many attendees as possible get the opportunity to share in the special offerings. Details will be worked out prior to the event. I also note the rumors about WGN. For those that don't really know, WGN is a significant television station in Chicago and is a cable superstation also. This means that any big news stories take precedence over other "local" stories. For example, WGN came to the event in 2007. And, WGN was supposed to come to the event in 2008, but there was some significant news story that preempted their appearance. So, the rumors can remain rumors, but you might want to plan to be up early Friday for some reason or another. Not to rehash the past, but there were some people with me in the hotel bar on Sunday night of the event in 2007 when we were actually on WGN. We got about 30 seconds...right after they spent 5 minutes on the GLP parade that was held downtown that day...ah, memories. Thanks everyone. It is great that there is so much passion. There are only 2 weeks left!!! Bryan

New 'Combo Build' Contest at Brickworld 2009!
BrickworldBryan replied to Davey's topic in Brickworld
You have to be a Brickworld attendee and at the event before 6:30 PM on Friday. The plan is that it will be a "must be present to win" type drawing of names submitted to a fish bowl at 6:30 PM Friday with the build starting at 7 PM. Bryan -
Brickworld is the event it is because of you and everyone that participates. We provide the canvas on which you all put your art!! Of course, it probably helped that we were foolish enough to email Jorgen and invite him Bryan

The first 480 registrants. Not the order you arrive at the event :)
-
Share - Learn - Explore - Discover The Brickworld Team is thoroughly overwhelmed right now. We have set a record attendance level and are fast approaching what seemed unattainable a few short weeks ago. There are presently 427 registered attendees. We can only guarantee goody bags to 480 attendees. We will most certainly have some kind of goody bag for everyone, but we will not have enough of everything to populate an unlimited number of goody bags. Logistically, we simply can't get more of everything in time for the event. So, you didn't stop reading this message? You are probably thinking that this wasn't a very big announcement yet. So, read on. We are overjoyed to be able to announce to everyone that we will be honored with the presence of Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen and Jorgen Vig Knudstorp at Brickworld. They will be arriving Friday (hopefully in time for opening ceremonies at 4 PM) and staying through Saturday or possibly Sunday. We look forward to seeing you in Chicago when we light up the night with World of Lights!!! No - as always, do what you can and have fun!!! B

Share - Learn - Explore - Discover For Brickworld 2009, we want to build on the collaborative display that was started last year, the LEGO Mansion. This year, let us try to build on the theme of lighting (in keeping with the World of Lights collaboration). An AC power drop will be provided if you wish to use a 9V transformer. Also, a battery box may be used. Either design the power supply into your room or try to provide sufficient wiring to reach the external power supply. Please make sure to mark the Mansion Collaboration on your Brickworld registration if you plan to contribute. More details on the mansion collaboration can be found here. Any questions should be entered at the contact us form on the Brickworld web site. We look forward to seeing you in Chicago when we light up the night with World of Lights!!! I have some of the new lights from Brickmodder. And, I will be doing several things with them. 1) lighting up a module for the Great Ball Contraption 2) lighting up a translucent Brickworld logo 3) (if I have time) build a lighthouse with a rotating light What are you doing for the World of Lights? Have fun with it!! Bryan

Momentary heart stoppage when I read the topic.... I just published my first preliminary layout of the rooms to BW coordinators last night. I saw the topic and thought "holy cow, who spilled the beans?" I was very much relieved to find Hinckley's stuff instead. And - No - I will not be publishing the layout ahead of the event. I would get way too many suggestions on how to improve it See you all in Chicago!! Bryan
