10210 Imperial Flagship - UPCOMING SET!!!
David Thomsen replied to Bonaparte's topic in LEGO Pirates
I think a few compromises were made so that the ship could have removable parts. I was confused by the lack of rigging and that the triangular sail at the front isn't actually attached to the mast behind it, but if everything had all been connected properly you wouldn't be able to take the masts away. Personally I prefer it this way. I should go to bed now and stop hogging this thread - it's 'uncool' to look this excited about a new lego set. -
10210 Imperial Flagship - UPCOMING SET!!!
David Thomsen replied to Bonaparte's topic in LEGO Pirates
He's holding it in a couple of the pictures, it looks like a scythe blade but he'd holding it too near the blade... it's too long for a dagger and doesn't have the hand guard of a cutlass. I can't identify it as anything. Edit: Okay, so it isn't a brand new piece... but it has still only been in a couple of other sets. -
10210 Imperial Flagship - UPCOMING SET!!!

I'm going to substitute my 'maid' from MMV as the chef of this ship. She's dressed appropriately, isn't too 'medieval' in look, and gives the range another female minifig, which is always a bonus. -
10210 Imperial Flagship - UPCOMING SET!!!
David Thomsen replied to Bonaparte's topic in LEGO Pirates
He's the admiral, and he was already in Soldier's Fort. Except he didn't have that cool plume. However, the chef does seem to have a new weapon. -
Looking at the pictures, I'm content now with the discontinuation of the line. I mean, the one thing I really wanted was a ship exactly like this. I'm still unhappy that there won't be other sets, at least not next year, but I'm no longer angry and resentful about it. Lego has fulfilled its obligation to match my Brickbeard's Bounty with an Imperial Flagship... my collection will no longer be half complete.

Ah, but the range is just on 'hiatus', as they say... if they bring back pirates in 2011, this set will probably still be on sale even if the others aren't. Is anyone going to post any more pictures? I'm refreshing this page every twenty seconds until we get more pictures. Surely more pictures must be on their way? Are those sails preliminary? If you colour them blue and white between the lines, they would match the sails of Brickbeard's Bounty much better.

I love you so much right now. Who is the person with the blue torso and the white sleeves on deck? Looks like a civilian woman.

MOC or actual Lego set? I'm assuming the former, since they said there wouldn't be any more pirates sets next year, but I can't say for sure based on this image.

Ideas for a UCS Set/s for Indy
David Thomsen replied to Princess Muttonchops's topic in LEGO Licensed
As nifty as a Lego zeppelin would be, there are two problems... one, it would be far too big at minifig scale, unless you cheated and made a 'mini' zeppelin, kind of like 4504 Millenium Falcon. And then it wouldn't be in scale with the other vehicles, and then everyone would be upset. Secondly, it would be boring to build. 4000 or so white slopes, made over 20 hours or so... yeah. I don't think enough Indiana Jones lego fans are as fanatical as the Star Wars fans. I had this idea a while back that they could cheat and have an inflatable zeppelin piece... but then everyone would hate the Lego company FOREVAR. Even though, in practical terms, this would be the most cost effective way, and also the best looking. I wouldn't mind it too much - I already happily use canvas sails and bits of string on my pirate sets, this is just an extention on the 'non-Lego lego pieces' idea. Isn't a zeppelin just like a big tent, like the one in Jungle Duel? Or a big canopy, like the one in Race for the Stolen Treasure? I think if the choice was between an inflatable lego zeppelin and no lego zeppelin at all, I think most fans would choose the inflatable zeppelin. Some might even grow to accept it... Personally, I'd love to see the castle they save Henry Jones Senior from made into a UCS set. I have lots of cars, trucks, motorcycles and planes already, not many actual locations... at least, not locations that can sensibly co-exist next to each other. A really big location UCS would be fantastic. -
I feel the same way for the same reason. I used to have a huge lego collection when I was a kid, but lost interest towards the end of highschool. After university I got one or two sets just for nostalgia, and then had to get a couple more... and I started collecting the Indiana Jones sets, and the Pirates sets, and I got the Cafe Corner and the Green Grocer, and I started regularly reading Lego news websites, and I was suddenly a proper AFOL... And just when I'm getting back into the flow again, getting excited, they pull the plug on Pirates, they appear to have lost interest in Indy and with only one modular building coming out per year, it's not enough to sustain my interest. Things like Toy Story, Ben 10 and Prince of Persia are very small licenses that don't have enough material to go beyond a single year. That doesn't interest me in the slightest. It's like instead of making six seasons of House M.D., they made six small one-season TV shows that are only meant to run for a year. Bah. Call me when Lego remember that some of their customers have an attention span longer than a goldfish.

Where'd you hear that?

I'm not really that inspired by the design... it looks like a half-finished pile of blocks. The hairpieces, though, are awesome. I'm hoping the hair turns up in some city sets, and the turban is worn by Indiana Jones when he's in Egypt.

WhiteFang is right, this doesn't really mean much. Look at the Pirates range, which has a chess set, tic tac toe, a coin bank, an advent calendar, a pack of cards, a battle pack, a treasure box, a magnet set and a key chain... so much merchandise, all of which might make you assume they intended to continue the line, but they never did. It seems that the only real proof that a line will be continued from one year to the next is when new sets are announced.

I was just thinking about the pros of cons of different kinds of city building set, which goes something like this: Creator Set, for example 6754 Family Home Pros: Lots of generic bricks for lots and lots of different buildings. Cons: Doesn't come with any minifigs, minifig tools or particularly specialised pieces. More designed for creativity than play. City Set, for example 7641 City Corner Pros: Lots of minifigs, minifig accessories, and special bits to make lamp posts and such. Cons: Comes with exactly as many pieces as is needed to make the one set of instructions. Not really put together with alternative models in mind. More designed for play than creativity. Bricks and More, for example 6194 My Lego Town Pros: Comes with minifigs and is quite definitely intended for the construction of multiple buildings and vehicles. Intended for both creativity AND play. Cons: Extremely basic, all the buildings are small, chunky, garishly multi-coloured and only have one wall. Not really intended for adults. Reading the 'ideas for new City sets' thread, where it becomes apparent that a lot of Lego collectors tend to rely entirely on what the Lego company puts out on the market (so they get upset when another fire station and airport are released instead of an optometrist or a derelict box factory), I think a range of sets that incorporate all of the best of the above would work well. Essentially, what I have in mind is something like 'My Lego Town' but with older builders in mind. Enough 'special' pieces like minifigs and accessories to give the set detail, enough 'generic' bricks to be able to design multiple different buildings and vehicles. I think City is the range this approach would work best with because other themes tend to be 'action' themes rather than 'world builder' themes.

Where is the source of this rumour that Indy won't be continued into 2010? I always assumed it would go on for much longer than this. If Pirates and Indy are both discontinued, I won't have anything left to collect. Why would they confirm that Pirates have been discontinued, but not Indy? Or shouldn't I read too much into that? I was especially looking forward to two things - the circus train and the German castle, both from the Last Crusade. The castle would have been gorgerous, and trains are always fun.

That the taxi turns up three times in two images makes me think it might not be too far away. I like the traffic conductor in the third image with the duck on his head. Hopefully that gets released as well.

Wow... that really is Town City Plan. Are you sure this isn't an old poll that you've stumbled upon? I can't seem to find it. Probably because I'm not a member. If I could vote, I'd choose the third one, making the suggestion that they at least try to make it different from Town City Plan. I think more civilian buildings would be great, expecially the toy store. My dream lego range would be 18th century aristocratic lego. Like, the society that the Admiral returns to when he's not fighting pirates. There could be an Opera, and a Ballroom, and a horse and carriage, and elegant dresses and powdered wigs... except it'll never be made, because it's not exactly a kid-oriented theme. Ahh, though...

This is why I'm not getting Space Police III. I was on the fence for a while, but the cancellation of Pirates pushes me off. Which is a shame, because some of the sets look awesome.

If you owned every 2009 set and could have one more...?
David Thomsen replied to PittSOB's topic in LEGO Pirates
I've been pondering exactly this thing lately. I usually only buy one of each set, but with the cancellation of pirates, I'm wondering what I could double up to make my pirate world a bit bigger. I'm the sort of person to build things exactly according to the instructions (yes, I know, it's boring, but all my creative energies are directed elsewhere) so it would have to be something that doesn't look odd in duplication. For that reason I'd go for Cannon Battle and Soldier's Fort. Theres no reason my army can't have two cannons, and the Fort could always be somewhat bigger. If I had to choose one of those, it would be Cannon Battle since two identical cannons is perfectly normal, whereas the Fort might ending up looking a bit repetitive. -
I'm not interested in anything on that table but the Octan truck. It fits in with my layout perfectly. The fire vehicle looks like every other fire vehicle that size, and the fire helicopter looks like one big moulded piece. I haven't bothered with aircrafts since they started making them out of large pieces, and I'm obviously not going to get the airport if I don't have any planes for it. None of the other themes on the table interest me, I mean Toy Story looks cute and Prince of Persia has some interesting minifig moulds but I like my collections to expand over the years rather than just exist for one year. Atlantis doesn't appeal to me at all, expecially since they discontinued Pirates and ran with this instead. What the? So, Octan truck it is.

It's my way of dealing with no new Pirates sets in 2010. I need something to look forward to so I make it up if I have to.

Since it's still utterly speculative as to whether there will even be a Pirates of the Caribbean lego range, this is nothing but speculation upon speculation... but it's fun to think about. The Black Pearl Obviously the range would have to include this set. I imagine it would be slightly smaller than the Brickbeard's Bounty, but cost the same, since it's a licensed set... Isla de Muerta interior The cave filled with treasure and the chest with the cursed money in it. Jack and Barbossa and the rest fighting. Kraken Attackin' Obviously a proper kraken, and not just an octopus. It could include the small ship the kraken first attacks, I think it was a fishing vessel. Tia Dalma's Shack Filled with Voodoo goodies and including a rowboat with the Pirates in it. The Water Wheel The one that rolls across the land while the three pirates fight in it. Smuggler's Island Jack and Elizabeth trapped on an island with rum hidden inside it. Escape From Prison Jack in a cell with a dog and a key and a bone. Will Turner can break him out, and a removable wall in the adjacent cell where the other pirates escape. Fight in Port Royal Tortuga The Dauntless The Interceptor The Flying Dutchman The Endeavour Shanghai Pirate Ship Shanghai Chase Indy escapes from... I mean, the Black Pearl crew fight the Shanghai gangsters... I mean pirates. The Chamber of the Pirate Lords Cannibal's Village Governor Swann's Mansion Fight in the Forge Jack and Will face off in the first movie. The island prison Jack escapes from at the beginning of the second movie. I forget what it's called. That's all I can think of for now. I can count at least seven possible ships there, and two port towns and a mansion that could be combined to make one big port town.

Yes please.

Hi, I'm not sure how to create a poll, I think a moderator has to do it for me? Anything that can be said about what happens in 2011 is pure speculation at this point, but if the Pirates theme returns, what form would you prefer it to take? * Classic lego pirates, like in 2009. My collection is only half finished! If they switch to POTC, I'll never get an Imperial ship, or a proper harbour. Also, licensed sets are more expensive, and I prefer generic pirates to movie characters. * POTC pirates. With at least four movies, the range has the potential to go on for years, like Star Wars and Indiana Jones. And how awesome would a Black Pearl set be? And a Shanghai pirate ship, and they'd need a powdered wig mould... * Both, at the same time. They have Star Wars sets on sale alongside other space sets, why can't they do that with pirates? I'd be able to pick which line to follow, and buy something from the other line if I liked it enough. Also, POTC moulds like a powdered wig could be transferred to the Classics line. * Either. Just as long as Pirates return! I can see the potential in either line, and either excites me. I'd prefer it if they pick one or the other, though, because they shouldn't spread themselves too thin.

PETITION to keep the Pirates theme beyond 2010
David Thomsen replied to Zorro's topic in LEGO Pirates
I sign. Pirates is too important a theme. How can they have two years of Power Miners but only one year of Pirates? That makes no sense. However, I'm signing in a 'bring them back in 2011' sense, since it's obviously too late by now for them to have sets ready for 2010.
