Welcome aboard White Nun! It depends. If there are some sets you can find cheap either in shops or on TradeMe or Bricklink and it has the right coloured parts in the quantity or some of the quantity that you need, then that is a good option. If not, then hunt round for bulk lots on TM of parts, buy them, keep the coloured pieces you need and resell the rest (might be able to find a buyer here). Or go directly to BL (bricklink) and buy the specific parts in the colours you need. Hope that helps. CF
