  1. To understand the origins of this MOC of 20 299 pieces I should probably explain that I went through a phase where I watched all LOST episodes in reverse order ... that probably accounts for the strange constructions and the plane-crash as well as the "native" buildings in the trees. But then there are still mecha and the choppers, well I guess floating hover cars and bikes, too. But as in LOST, not everything has an obvious reason to be in this weird place. The Mechs: Hover Car and Bike: The Choppers: The trees are inspired by a MOC of Endor that I saw on youtube, I can't remember the source. The idea is to build a the trunk in a pentagonal shape and from there on I made the trees and houses modular: Plane Crash: Indigenous HQ: Treehouses: Chopper Landing Site and Border: More Treehouses: Indigenous Border: Check Point: I'm still trying to render the whole set, so you will have to wait a bit for the composite image. Just as a little appetizer a top-down view: High Res resources can be found here.
  2. Wonderful MOC! Just outstanding part use and building techniques, I have the feeling that I could learn something new at every corner. The illumination and the spaceship are amazing and the shear scale of it is mind-blowing. I just love it :)
  3. Thanks :) Yeah, lots of black and a very minimalistic shape to capture the feeling of the movies. Also, I realized that i forgot to render a perspective from outside the ship as most of the renderings are cut-aways ... so here you go: And the full res version can be found here.
  4. Stunning MOC! I like the minifigs, strange people you would expect to meet in a metro
  5. Nice horror build. The second one has quite a disturbing look to it with that eyes hanging from the side ... I would love to see this in a diorama or a larger set :)
  6. Really like the way you used the chains and how they look here.
  7. Sry, I thaught that only applied to images uploaded to the forums. Would it be ok if I put them inside a spoiler tag?
  8. Hi, my name is Arne and I live in Aachen, Germany. Since I'm studying civil engineering and live in a dorm I sadly have no real bricks at hand and so I like to create some models digitaly, that I wouldn't be able to build in physical form. At the moment there are two of MOCs in the forums: The Nostromo and Air Castle Attack. More models and raw renderings can be found: Modular Forrest, Nostromo, Air Castle Attack, Siege Tank Ensemble. And I have a question about the forums because I'm unable to access my profile (restricted access). Is there some kind of limit in the number of posts I have to pass in order to access? So far I'm really impressed of the quality and the scale of the projects in this forum, I had a great time so far :)
  9. Woha, great stuff! I especially like the look and feel of the Basecrusher and your LEGO logo. Reminds me of good 80's science fiction :D The Spaceship and the city block around it are magnificent, amazingly detailed.
  10. By the way, if you want to take a closer look i can give you the lxf file, do you know a good file sharing website? lxf source file links: Nostromo Making Of (Modules) Thanks alot! Here are two more closeups of the leisure module (making of) and the bridge which features design concepts from star trek and star wars. Well, I'm certainly not going to build this. I couldn't afford the temporal and economic expenses and don't even have enaugh space in my flat to fit it :D Apart from probably being too heavy to lift in its entirety, it would break down when trying to do so (that's one of the reasons for building it in a modular fashion). After all, it is a spaceship and build for zero g! But it features an even bottom so you can put it on a table and in this position everything you can see in the digital model should be possible to realise in physical reality.
  11. Yes, exactly. The technic parts are used for vertical load distribution and joining the different modules of the ship. I also used an inner and outer hull which further contribute to the size and structural integrity.
  12. ... about 4 metres long ;)
  13. Thanks! Thanks, and if you look close you can even find a waterfall going towards the ground :D
  14. An amazing MOC! I really like the design and amount of detail on such a large ship. Could you make some shots of the interior? I'm especially curious about the bridge.
  15. As the name suggests, this spaceship was inspired by the alien movies. This MOC utilizes about 18k bricks and still has some details missing. The ship has 2 decks and 3 subdecks which have several entries and exits, linking large parts of the Nostromo.
  16. The creation of this 19,119 piece MOC was mostly driven by creating many castles, which modules turned out to be too large for the scope of LDD. So I decided to build a more self-contained unit with the extension of an airship, hence the Air Castle. In the overview[high res, no AA] one can see the implecations of a castle, which couldn't rely on large fields outside the main walls. Houses are build from wood and into the rock foundations and pathways have formed around them. As resources couldn't be farmed the castles econemy is largely build on trade and craftsmanship. In order to sustain the commerce the north gate accomodates a dock for floating ships, being one of the few trade-offs in the defenses. Under the castle is a maze of cellars, one maybe leading to a secret entrance on the western wall ... The source of the seamingly magical power that keeps the trade ships and boats afloat is unkown, but it is believed to involve crystals. Being originally designed for travels on the seas, some of the ships cannons haven't been used for quite some time others were moved onto the deck. The burgfried is the tallest, and probably best defended tower of the castle being on the eastern wall and having no entrance from the ground floor. The southern flank incorperates a prison and shows the refitting of the castle over the years with its mixture of roman, greek and gothic arcs and columns. Ok, I think that's enaugh lore for the moment, although I'm glad to answer questions. There are some things I left unfinished, the cellars and the tavern for example have no interior and I will probably not add them. Some details: Air Castle Length: 176 studs Width: 84 studs Height: 62 bricks Air Ship Length: 112 studs Width: 46 studs Height: 50 bricks More Images (All in High Res without AA, Rendering took a couple of weeks)
