As others have already stated, the proportions for this creation are more or less perfect. I think you did a very nice job of capturing the shape of the ship, especially around the canopy area. And I like the removable cockpit, it makes for a great play function. Do you know how many studs long this is? Looking at Junsier's system-scale Slave I I think yours looks a bit too small. The first thing I would suggest is to break up the grey on the main body. If you look at the Bespin platform scene from The Empire Strikes Back you can see that the Slave I's hull is very much a mix of light and dark grey. And, according to the illustration in the Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels, the underside of the ship does not feature tan or white. (Although I think those might be due to a lack of pieces.) For a better cockpit, you may want to refer to the Incredible Cross Sections book.

Kamil the TIE is missing the stars!!! Didn't Darth Vader fly a prototype TIE x1 and not a standard TIE...? But I find the scene very humorous. I suggest not using tiles for the floor though - it looks a bit too clean for a garage. I like how 'you' are slightly below ground level during repair, but don't they usually raise the car? So that's where the squdman was hiding! Is it really all right for Vader to just leave his lightsaber on the table like that? I hope the mechanic has some alluvial dampers too! =D

Some kind of alien TIE drone??? Nice detail at the connection with the wings. Have you tried using 2 x 3 inverted roof tiles rather than 2 x 2? Your current rendition ruins the smoothness of the model. Perhaps the pilot of this ship could have a name related to 'blank' or 'candid'?

Mid-Scale Republic Gunship & Dropship/AT-TE
Fallenangel replied to gotoAndLego's topic in LEGO Star Wars
The proportions seem a bit off... Personally I think they're all very cute I like the way you made the feet on the AT-TE, in spite of the fact that they're white. Perhaps you could replicate the technique in a larger scale? =) I wish LEGO would make more midi-scale sets like these!!! -
It looks a bit like a BARC speeder. I love the smooth look of the MOC, it's very prequel-esque.

Did anyone else notice that R2 is between the engines when he should be just in front of them? (In other words, LEGO appears to have made the rear section a bit too short.) Also the engines look a bit too small... Nevertheless, the amount of detail LEGO put into this set is amazing - this is easily one of their best sets EVER. An updated version using a few slopes and more angled plates (not to mention a simpler wing-opening mechanism around a central pivot) would be even better... I second the request for a video of the S-foils! RXBandit if you want that page the instructions for this beast are still on the LEGO website.

The new 8097 Slave I certainly looks like more than a lazy redesign, unlike the new ARC-170. Although I wonder why LEGO didn't re-release Jango Fett's Attack of the Clones Slave I, as that version got more screen time and weapons. There must be some pretty spoiled children out there if parents are willing to pay $90 for a ship they saw for maybe 10 seconds. The new minifigures are amazing, though I must say I think the new Boba Fett looks a bit cartoony. I probably won't be picking up the new Slave I for (1) the price and (2) I already have a pretty good version of it. I wish LEGO had redesigned the X-wing for 6212 like this! (By the way, wasn't Wedge Red TWO and not THREE?) (I want) CLONE WARS SHAAK TI! CLONE WARS SHAAK TI! I so wish LEGO would find more cheaper ways to include Boba Fett... maybe with a Cloud City vignette? (Not the whole thing; maybe just the freezing chamber...) Bossk looks awesome! I wonder if LEGO will include Zuckuss and 4-LOM in future sets to complete the Executor bridge scene? Has anyone tried using the Exo-Force heads or the Oddball head from the new ARC-170 for a Rebel pilot?

Excellent review, Rufus. Isn't it funny how LEGO neglected to fix the problem of elongated engines on the 2007 Y-wing? That always bothered me and that's the one thing I don't like about the set. It's been three years since the last Rebel Y-wing... I believe a re-release (with shorter engines) is in order. And Rufus it's not the Clone Wars Y-wing they took the plates off of. (The Clone Wars Y-wing was a useless fabrication like the Delta-7B.) There is another Y-wing featured in the Incredible Cross Sections with the plates on. The detailing on this set is amazing!

The pictures are much too large to post here. Deeplinks: TIE Full view Head-on Side View Back. I hadn't realized the thing was a window. Shuttle: Side Cockpit for scale Guns Rear, a bit too wide Neat play feature Opening Ramp

Two old MOCs which I have not previously posted on this forum. (Sorry about the blurry pics; I posted these before I found out you can edit them online.) First, my TIE Interceptor. TIE/In I pretty much modded the heck out of 6206. I really wanted to change the wings (the angle in the back is horribly wrong) but I didn't have enough black wing pieces for the job. I'm really not sure how correctly scaled this is; the dimensions for the "real" ship are not set as there was no full-size model built for the film. However, if someone could send me the dimensions of the actual model I might be able to scale it. I didn't have enough grey pieces for a proper border around the wings, so I instead went for a "battle-scarred" look and placed random tiles on the wings. Here is the gallery:TIE gallery Next, my Lambda-class shuttle: Lambda Shuttle It's obviously not scaled to minifigures. It may be midi-scale, I'm not sure. Maybe even 1/144. In any case, I didn't use reference pictures for this, but it still turned out pretty good. There is also a ramp that can fold down but no interior. The top is removable. Gallery:Shuttle Gallery Questions, comments, & suggestions are always welcome! And I also cleaned up my brickshelf so now anyone who wishes to can view the history of my X-wing.

So... there is no such thing as true "midi-scale"? Although 1/100 scale does seem about right...
-
According to the LEGO website, 7778 Midi-scale Millennium Falcon is 23.5 cm long. But I also remember seeing somewhere (maybe in the Star Wars ICS books or the Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels, but I may be wrong) that the Millennium Falcon is, in fact, around 23.7 or so meters long. Am I correct, then, in my conclusion that "midi-scale" is actually something very close to 1/100 scale? Because then 7663 Sith Infiltrator would, in fact, be "midi-scaled". I'm really not sure about this, because both Wookieepedia and the starwars.com databank list different dimensions for the Millennium Falcon. And besides it's possible that the new LEGO Falcon isn't proportionate to itself. Additional information from anyone would be greatly appreciated! And one more thing... I really hope The LEGO Group releases a Midi-scale TIE to dogfight with the Midi-scale Falcon!!!

This is my first MOC post. Sorry about the blurry pictures. Hopefully I did the uploading right... The picture above is unofficially the 742nd X-wing I have built and the second one I have posted online. It was made about two years ago. As you can see, I used ideas from errbt, dateman, Niko, Lowlead, the official Lego X-wing, and many others. (However, the laser cannons are original.) I am currently working on another version which uses click hinges to achieve a more correct angle for the rear fuselage. This is my (more correctly scaled) Eta-2 Actis Interceptor. In the opening scene of Episode III (as well as several episodes of the 2003 Clone Wars series) it can be seen that the bulb cockpit of the Eta-2 is not much bigger than Anakin's body. It can be reasoned, then, that the official LEGO Eta-2 is far too large and I don't understand why people keep making it bigger, unless they are trying to scale it to the new R2-D2 dome. Comments and suggestions welcome!

prof1515, I would have to disagree with you on several of these points. There are many, many much more prominent iconic starships than the Millennium Falcon, the X-Wing, the TIE Fighter, the Star Destroyer and the Death Star. To name just a few, the snowspeeder and the AT-AT. I do not believe in the no-win scenario. LEGO has released two Millennium Falcons as well, but the Truescale and midiscale versions seem to sell just fine. I believe that a LEGO starship in a new scale is as novel as a completely new ship. I also think that the AT-AT was just as iconic as the Star Destroyer as a symbol of Imperial strength. And you're forgetting that LEGO has not released Padme's yacht, Anakin's customized Jedi Starfighter from the 2003 Clone Wars, or any of the larger rebel ships from the Battle of Endor other than the Home One playset. The TIE Defender was a great idea BECAUSE Star Wars fanboys, or at least anyone who's played the X-wing video games, would instantly recognize it. And as far as I know, just as many non-Star Wars fanboys as fans have played Shadow of the Empire for the N64. And I hardly think EU is "garbage". The Nebulon-B isn't really that obscure, as some members have pointed out. And a 6211-scaled Nebulon-B would be less than a quarter of the size of 6211. In other words, not really that big. I actually wish LEGO would just release big ships in a smaller scale without minifigures... ships like the Venator, Acclamator, and even the separatist frigates from the prequels would work well in 6211-scale. And I have seen no sign of Yoda's hut except in the Dagobah X-wing. I meant as an individual playset. The small size and Yoda fig would make it a good candidate as a set by itself... And I don't mind rehashes - as long as they look like rehashes and not releases. They add variety to the collection and they often look better too. Examples of rehashes that look too much like rereleases would be the "new" snowspeeder, X-wing, ARC-170 (looks like a mod of 7259 IMO) and the preliminary images of the 2010 Slave I. I apologize, those of you who said it are correct in that Slave I is a very obscure ship... And even if it's not the Slave I, large ships like the LAAT/i, the Lambda-class shuttle, and even the Rogue Shadow would work well in midi-scale. (Though I guess the Rogue Shadow would be closer to 6211-scale...)

I apologize for my comment on Vader's TIE. It's just that with the prequels they just tried to cram so many new vehicles and starships into three movies that they really don't have much character and I get used to ignoring them. To think I forgot that Darth Vader makes the TIE advanced iconic, and so does the Death Star trench run... please excuse me. I am sincerely sorry. The reason for my suggesting a midiscale Slave I is not because it's iconic. I never said it was iconic. It was more because I recall the fact that Boba Fett as well as his "father", (At least after 2002) Jango, proved widely popular... I know very many Boba fans. And Jango's Slave I did get a lot of screen time... And the Slave I is around the same size as the Falcon, so I thought using the same scale would be convenient. (I'm sorry to any 4504 lovers, but I don't favor sets which are excessively out of scale or disproportionate to itself.) And from what I've seen of the 2010 Slave I, I'm actually a bit disappointed... new minifig molds are great, but not if they jack up prices like they're doing now. And more thorough redesigns would be much appreciated. The new ARC-170 looks like a mod of the original. If I remember correctly, the Redemption did get a significant amount of screen time in both the final scene in Empire Strikes Back as well as battle scenes in Return of the Jedi, and a number of video games and comic books... probably as much as the TIE Advanced, if not more. And another reason I suggested a 6211-sized Nebulon B is because UCS sets are aimed at a more dedicated group. In other words, a group for which it would be a pleasure for "even the most obscure sets released by TLC". Next to the Star Destroyer, the Nebulon-B is the best candidate for a LEGO capital-ship type model. And it doesn't have to be big... I'd be happy with a 50-stud long Redemption model as long as it was accurate to the film. By obscure TIEs I meant the TIE tank. Of course the TIE Defender is recognizable.
-
While many of the more recent UCS and large-scale sets look fantastic and are packed with play features, I have to admit sometimes I don't know why TLC chose to make UCS versions (or at least really expensive renditions) of certain sets. Take, for example, the UCS AT-ST and the UCS TIE Advanced. The way I see it, Ultimate Collector's Series sets are usually instantly recognizable and very iconic. In this case, the UCS X-wing, Star Destroyer, Tantive IV, and the minifig-scale Millennium Falcon (the $500 one) would all make sense. But the AT-ST isn't really recognized - not only that, the design is sloped and the angles are difficult to pull off in LEGO. And for the TIE Advanced - I honestly don't think the average Joe would hold Darth Vader's TIE particularly highly - it was only in one scene and was flung into space at the end of it for that matter. Not exactly memorable in my opinion. These two ships just don't really scream "Star Wars" or even "iconic". This peculiarity in set choice could also be said for one of the more pricey sets of 2009 - the AT-OT and LAAT/c. I'm not sure what role either of those ships play in the new Clone Wars series (by the way, I hate it and I think the '03 series was better), the AT-OT was only in one scene in Revenge of the Sith - the one on Felucia where Aayla Secura is shot by her troops. And I only remember seeing one LAAT/c on Geonosis - just one. In other words, these two are pretty obscure. (And a bit odd-looking.) So why include relatively obscure ships as part of the current children-oriented line that we've been seeing lately (I mean the Clone Wars sets - come on, the flick missiles!) And for that matter, the Republic Cruiser as well... sure, it was the first Star Wars-related thing we saw in nearly 20 years but... it was destroyed in the first scene and we never see it again (unless you count that transport from Attack of the Clones.) I'm sure new Qui-gon and Obi-wan figures could be released with Anakin's pod or something rather than a big, pricey limited edition set. Expanded Universe sets too! While the TIE Defender was a great idea, I honestly thought LEGO would make something more recognizable and easier to design, like the Outrider, rather than EU TIEs and an Imperial Landing Craft. (One scene - and only in the 2002 Special Edition - in the very top left corner, really small. They decided to make a set from that?) That being said, I really don't hope LEGO decides to make more big sets of obscure ships again. It being the 10th anniversary of Empire Strikes Back, I honestly hope LEGO would release a 6211-scaled Nebulon-B or a minifig-scaled AT-AT rather than more "new" snowspeeders. (Unlikely, I know, but a guy can dream, can't he?) Yoda's hut would make an excellent playset (and opportunity for reusing Yoda's head), I wonder why LEGO hasn't thought of that yet. And of course a midi-scale Slave I would seem perfect. What do you all think of this?

IG-88 is my favorite bounty hunter and I think you made a great representation. Though I do think the black makes it look more like the lancer droids from the original Clone Wars... if you changed the colors to light and dark grey I think it'd be perfect. I love the way you did the arms and legs, it really captures the feel of it.

It looks too small, but that's probably just me. I think some SNOT would be good for this ship. Other than it's pretty good.

Since I've been posting for a while now I guess I should introduce myself. I have been making Lego MOCs since I was 5, but the recent years is what really inspired me to give it my all. I'm particularly interested in Star Wars Legos; It started with 7259 ARC-170 (not such a great set but it's all right) and continued from there. I've been trying to build a better X-wing than Brian Tobin or dateman for several years. My brickshelf account username is the same as my eurobricks username, in case you'd like to see some of my creations (the folders are very disorganized!!!) Some books I like are 1984 and Animal Farm, both by George Orwell, and all seven Narnia books. I also like The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown and 2001: A Space Odyssey by Arthur C. Clarke. I have read the original Star Wars novelization by George Lucas and all seven Harry Potter books, as well as the four Twilight books. Some of my favorite rock bands are Guns N Roses, Nirvana, and Aerosmith. Yes I like classic rock. (Jonas Brothers, Hannah Montana, and rappers aren't very talented IMO) Well, that's about it.
-
I saw this on FBTB and I thought, "nice paint job dude!" Where did you get the white 1x4 slope bricks you used for the nose? I can't find it on Google and it's not on MLCad. My only gripe is that it's too big. Other than that it's perfect.
-
My favorite out of all of these is the Endor set followed by the Hoth set, and then the Neimodian shuttle. The Venator is too sloped IMO it should have more of a flat shape. I'm not a particular fan of that snail droid. The Ywing looks good quality for LEGO. So no one has found pictures of the new Falcon yet?
-
The Delta-12 is a skysprite. Anyway Knightsword although I do love the new job (black looks AWESOME) I think that the fighter needs to be much smaller. Both Wookieepedia and the Star Wars Databank lists the length of the Delta-7 as 8 meters. I also think the flat on the front could either be eliminated using DutchRebel's design or be reduced by making the tip only one stud wide by means of a 1x2 plate with one stud.

What other SW "Battle Packs" would you like to see?
Fallenangel replied to BearHeart's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Another idea; MINI vehicle/starfighter battle packs. So all those horribly out-of-scale MINI models will hopefully be remade to scale and be good for something. ANH battle pack; 2 Xwings and one Ywing ESB battle pack; 2 TIE fighters and a TIE bomber etc. and they could sell the Falcon, Slave I, etc. as separate MINIs so no one will have to buy multiple of desired ships. And Natman4000 why do you think LEGO would not do that? If you throw in a couple of speeders or turrets it would make for a good battle pack IMO. -
Awesomeness!! I love how the pilots can get out of the cockpits like that. and is that Ki-Adi-Mundi? On the other hand, I think the cockpits are a bit lacking in detail, although I thought that the cockpits were far away from the nose, closer to the top. Can anyone provide a reference photo?
