I'm in Calgary, but I'll echo your praise of TRU. They have a great selection, and are usually very current. Places like Walmart have all but given up, having only a pitiful selection. The Bay is good for finding older sets, but they seem to be phasing out their toy depts.

Availability of Cafe Corner, Green Grocer etc & sets in general?
wednesdayware replied to Phleep's topic in LEGO Town
If the Batman lesson holds true, the prices on these will be ridiculous once they are no longer available through Lego. Like, 2 to 3x current price. -
Agents Theme Survey
wednesdayware replied to Darth_Legois's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Not mention that he makes a very acceptable Joker for those of us who won't pay the highway robbery that the actual one goes for. -
Really nice work. Agree with everyone on the staircase, it's touches like that that make this stand out. I need to get my butt in gear and start working on some City MOCs. Awesome job.

Agents Theme Survey
wednesdayware replied to Darth_Legois's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Anyone know if the Agents sets are selling well? I assume so, as they brought out a second round, but is there any way to find out which sets are selling the best? -
I've seen a few of the new Castle sets in Calgary this week, as well as all (I think) of the Agents 2.0. Still waiting for the new Indiana Jones.

[REVIEW] Anniversary Silver Stormtrooper Magnet
wednesdayware replied to PDQAg's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I'm hoping to pick up a few of these when I hit Legoland California later this summer. -
I like that this set has an interior, and that it's playable. One thing I think is missing from a number of sets these days is a playable interior area. I remember when I was young, I would always build my ships with massive interior areas, often at the expense of an exterior, so that I could play within the ship.

God forbid we should express an opinion contrary to yours. What WERE we thinking? The majority of the the complaints are that it doesn't fit well with the two existing sets, and that the American feel is part of that. The CC and GG are very European in their design, and the firehouse seems to stick out like a sore thumb. As to why you're "insulted" about people being upset, that's your own deal. Nobody is making this out to be America vs the World, that seems to be in your head.

I agree with many posters that this one is is very cool, but maybe doesn't live up to CC and GG. It doesn't quite continue that European street feel, and anchors itself into a timeframe. I'll likely pick it up, but also am considering using bricks on hand to either modify this to fit in, or possibly just making something myself. At any rate, encouraging that TLG is putting these out at a decent pace.

I have a special place in my heart for the islanders. My first "Big" set was the large islander set. I actually picked up a second not long ago. I made a big MOC, which was a bit lacking in detail... My First Islander Moc

Great review, that was fun.
-
I suspect the Islanders are the good guys in all of this

Thanks for the review, top notch. Apart from the minifigs, the Space Police line does nothing for me, but fair enough, it's not marketed or made for me, and I'm cool with that.
-
I like the simplicity of the red car, and I like the minifig a lot. He'll be the "businessguy" for many a city MOC, i'm guessing.
-
Minor point, but the Playmobile creature is an octopus, and the Lego is a Kraken.

Don't get me wrong, I've played this game a lot since it came out, but the thing they really missed here is the FUN of being a pirate. In fact, you're really more of a Project Manager for Pirates.

That one still baffles me. It doesn't make sense to sell a popular game which features your line of toys, and then make those toys unavailable. I don't understand that one at all. I wrote an article on my blog about this issue, as I was annoyed by that. My 5 year old has been playing the game, and love Lego Batman, but I can't find any sets anywhere for a realistic price, and I'm not paying $300 for the Batcave set. My Blog post about Batman here

Weird. The description below lists the 3 that come with the set, so clearly a mistake with the picture. But funny. Or should I call S@H and complain about missing a minifig ;)

What's the best photo hosting site?

Flickr all the way. Brickshelf's interface is clunky and cumbersome. Flickr is much easier to use, and especially to look at other's works etc... -
Fantastic work. Well Done.

REVIEW: 8968 Agents River Heist
wednesdayware replied to TheBrickDaddy's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I picked this up for my son, and it's a pretty decent set. The one strange things was that I was missing the wheels that attach to make the propeller work. This is thefirst time i've EVER been missing pieces from a boxed set, and I've bought/made over 100 easily. The attractive thing in this set for me was the "Joker". My son is crazy about the Batman Lego since the game came out, but I can't seem to find Batman Lego or minifigs at a price that isn't insane, so, instant Joker, and even a Harley Quinn type, with a hat change. -
I too like the house, makes me want to go grab a beach house or two before they go away. Also the multi coloured brick selection looks good (from a mosaic perspective, it's nice to get a lot of color brick at once).

I agree that there needs to be a bit more variety. Even across Cafe Corner, Green Grocer, and the Marketplace, there were some matching torsos. Surely there is room for a few more designs, even ones from the past.
