LEGO Ninjago 2017 Discussion
seahawkeye replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
CMFs are in my local Coles supermarket here in rural Australia (price: $5.25, not terrible) BIG W here has 20% already low prices on all LEGO until 16 August, including most TLNM sets. Help please: does anyone know which shop here in Oz has the retail exclusive Flying Jelly Sub? -

LEGO Ninjago 2017 Discussion

Do you want to have the Movie SET Discussion in the 2017 set discussion thread? No, keep it all here. Movie is just another Ninjago wave. Can't be bothered checking two forums instead of one, and non-movie will go quiet for 6 months anyway. -

I'm a Marvel fan with little interest in DC properties, but The Lego Batman Movie looks sensational and these CMFs are incredible. Great work, Lego Group. I'll be buying them just cos they're beautiful. How I wish they were Marvel figures ... -

Security Guard in Mr Freeze set seems to be based on someone specific. (thanks to just2good for the image on the left) -
Lego Ninjago 2016

I bought the Raid Zeppelin on the weekend & it's bloody fantastic. Great minifigs, great building experience (for me & the kids), and wonderfully swooshable. Can't wait for the Lighthouse Siege (and hope I can resist Tiger Widow Island in the meantime). I love Ninjago. Just love it. -

The store catalogue lists Alien Conquest and Cars 2 as the 'brand new playthemes' coming out in May, as well as new products in City, Kingdoms, Creator 'and more'. There's NO WAY that PotC could be the 'and more', so I reckon it's safe to assume that 16 April release date is correct. Now just wish Barnes & Noble would update their pre-order release date ... -
Signed. Love my Brickbeard's Bounty more than any other set. Want more Pirates, dammit.

A brief tale of positive opportunism Last Friday morning I rang around Melbourne Big W stores looking for 8092 Luke's Landspeeder. Only store with any on our side of town was Ballarat, about 45 mins from where we live. It wasn't our plan for the day but the whole family felt okay with the adventure, so off we went (me, wife, 2 kids). We get there, my 6 year-old grabs the Landspeeder off the shelf and all is good in the world. But I think why not have a glance across the shelves, just in case. And there, down on floor level, are 3 Galactic Enforcers going for $67 each. They were all taped up, and one had a particularly damaged box. I picked out the heaviest one. It turned out to be totally complete and in perfect condition. My best bargain in years. My 6 year-old is going to have an awesome birthday. -
An appalling decision by Lego. Pathetic. Viva la pirates.

I love the variation, too. I'd be happy if sets came with random colours, or at least random shades like this. A huge band of pirates shouldn't look like they're wearing team colours, for crikey's sake.

Thanks, Thrash, I didn't realise I'd got the linking mechanism all wrong. Fixed now. Natman8000, I appreciate that femmes are more commonplace across the Legoverse these days, but has there been a wide-release rank-and-file space girl since the Ice Babe in 1993? There were no chicks on Mars (which was madness, there needed to be chicks on Mars!). I'm jus' saying, a space copette adds a great dimension to this whole enterprise.
-
Apologies if this has already done the rounds, but did you catch a peek at the female cop? Woman in uniform! This makes a good thing even better IMO.
-
Count me in ... if I can sneak the Lego away from my kids.

How many people here are on the side of the wacky lil' critters? As an Australian, I think I'm programmed to oppose the Space Police and support these poor, hungry, oppressed outsiders. C'mon everyone, say it with me, SMASH THE SPACE POLICE! LIBERATE THE SKIES!!

I’ve never seen RBR in the flesh but from the picture it looks pretty ugly. There’s only one sail on each mast and they sit up there way too high. The white/yellow combo on the forecastle is fried-egg ugly. The whole stern is over-decorated with that mess of gangly white blobs - those big white curves look like bits of Mars Mission flung backwards through time. And the break-apart nature of the whole thing is strange and counter-intuitive – Lego already comes apart! If kids want to ‘sink’ it they already can, they don’t need TLG to tell them how to do it! The Bounty, on the other hand, is IMHO magnificent. It’s beautiful to look at, it’s fun and easy to disassemble and decorate, and I find it deeply evocative of history and the sea in ways that its predecessors simply aren’t. The minifigs fit the ship’s colour palette perfectly and the rest of the supporting cast (soldiers, maiden, monkey, shark) have inspired a lot of play in our house. I know many of you think the Skull & Crossbones looks a bit childish but I’ve found that it's great in a family context. Other deficiences, like no anchor and no gaff & main boom over the poop, can be addressed creatively because it’s Lego. Similarly, I’ve already filled the cabin with new fittings and furniture – the Captain travels in style! Love the new.

Agree that this site is incredible. Great work, everyone involved. Always a thrill to find a few minutes to look here. Disagree that classic Lego owns current Lego. There's always been ups and downs, and TLC seems to be on a huge up at the moment. This new Pirate range is a hoot. I've studied the instruction manuals for all the old ships, and I couldn't possibly love them any more than I love Brickbeard's Bounty (must admit, though, that 6270 Forbidden Island and 6273 Rock Island Refuge are awesome hideouts).

This is my first post here, so I can’t help but give you a long-winded preamble. Sorry in advance. I came out of my Dark Ages about a year ago when my son got the big green truck for his birthday from his Nan. He’s 4 years-old so the City sets leapt out at him - vehicles he could understand, like trucks, cars, helicopters, etc. None of the designs really thrilled me, but I played along because it felt so sweet to have Lego in my hands after twenty-odd years. I’d grown up with Classic Space, so I also gifted him the occasional Mars Mission set. I found them beautiful and brilliant - right alongside the best of 1979, IMHO. Anyway, the year dragged along and nothing caught my eye until I saw her – Brickbeard’s Bounty. I’d bought my last Lego sets in the late 1980’s, just when the Pirates range first came out. I’ve still got some old catalogues and the prices were nuts: for example, the Black Seas Barracuda cost about $250 here in Australia. That’s roughly $A400 in today’s cash, or about … $US570! Even if I’d been tempted, that was WAAAAY out of my price range, especially when I was wooing the woman I now know as ‘Wifey’. So no Pirates for me. Yes, I have some vague memories of glimpsing Lego during my Dark Ages, but the sets of the 90’s and early 00’s seriously underwhelmed my aesthetics and overwhelmed my empty wallet. I figured my love had gone, but I was wrong. I’m not sure what it is about the Bounty, but from the first glance it’s given me tingles. I studied the review here over Christmas, studying every odd part and angle. When I found out the new Pirates range wouldn’t get here ‘til July I was heartbroken, and had some serious soul-searching to do. “Do I need it now? Of course not. But … I do! Now! NOW NOW NOW!!” So I took the plunge and did the unthinkable, ordering the mighty ship through S@H. I’ve had her for two weeks now. She sits on a side table, in pride of place in our lounge/dining room near the Mark Ryden print, the fine sculptures and many other attributes of a normal grown-up family. And she ROCKS. Her colours, her lines, her epic majesty and evocative grace ... all sublime and divine. Yes, as Dreamweb just noted, there’s lots to modify. The forecastle is bare and she needs a dozen pirates to feel homely. But … woo-hoo! What fun to make her better and better and even better! My son, now 5, gazes at her in awe. Visitors launch into conversation at the sight of her. Even my wife was compelled to admit that it belongs there, in our line of sight, in our lives. Come July we’ll get the other sets, and make ourselves a huge Pirate hideout. Can’t wait. And who knows, I might even let the lad play with some of it.
