  1. yep, the key is the key to the Dead Man's Chest. Jack Sparrow's compass is behind it. and thanks! It was a lot of fun to build for everryone, as we went out of our comfort themes to do this...it was pretty freeing to just have fun building! Joe
  2. This is a preproduction sketch from the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, done by Marc Davis, one of the original Disney animators who became Disney Imagineers. This is actually at the ride, and I had been wanting to build this for a LONG time - but this was hurried:-) You can find more at www.disneylandpostcards.com Joe
  3. Good question! Some kind of tribal head wear? God Bless, Nathan That's actually from this: there are some scale problems though:-) About 'we' - We are NCLUG, as noted, and we have an active membership of about 8-10 members. We're small, but very passionate about the hobby. We have displayed in Washington, DC and in Raleigh, NC and Chapel Hill, NC. The best thing about the group is that we all love challenges:-) Joe Administrator (or Benevolent Dictator), NCLUG Editor/Publisher, BrickJournal Event Coordinator, BrickFest 2006
  4. Hey! We did that! How cool! Thanks for posting this - I have been lax on posting stuff because I am doing way too much and now building too:-) Joe Meno with way too many titles.
  5. Snefroe, pretty cool stuff you have here - I am impressed with the thought put not into the building, but also in the background information. You made them something like a VW Beetle that is very modular. Nice work! Joe
  6. That I would go for - and a LEGO Javelin 7 would be way cool! Joe
  7. Well, if you look at what's happening with the licenses, it would be logical to extend to Superman because DC Comics and Warner Brothers own the rights to the source material. And I think that LEGO snagged rights for this purpose. It really does depend on how sales work out though. There's going to be some interesting dynamics going on though, as Batman is a license that is not being supported by a movie presently, but is supported by comics and publications...which is good (more exposure to places like bookstores and a more regular run of material monthly, as opposed to a movie which releases once then releases on DVD) and bad (not quite as pervasive as a good movie). Another thing to consider is what could be done for Superman. I don't know what the plot is for Superman returns (except he returns), so what kind of set could be done? Not much has come out plot-wise about the movie, so there's nothing obvious that comes to mind for a set. Except maybe a Fortress of Solitude. Joe
  8. me? I want Riddler. Then Batgirl. Then Bat-Mite, with stubbies:-) What about Rah's al Ghul? Joe M ed/pub, BrickJournal
  9. Nathan, it's another spring cleaning set, though not as good as last years. The extra parts are consistent (no different assortments), but have different colors. You can see part assortments on Brickshelf if you search by set number, I think. Joe M ed/pub, BrickJournal
  10. Jonfett, try the third link on that page. I know the first one has to be updated. don't know what's up withthe second link, but the third works. Joe ed/pub, BrickJournal
  11. Thanks for the compliments, everyone! I would have posted here sooner, but I got tripped up by the launch (what I thought would take a couple of days took a little longer) and I wasn't exactly sure where to post... Anyways, I took the 'odd' route on mecha because one of things I want to show in BrickJournal are the builders that aren't always seen. Each of us as builders has something to learn, and each of us has something to offer. So as a spacer, I pay attention to train builders and bionicle, even though my interests lean elsewhere. I had a great time with this issue, and don't woory - more is on the way! Joe
  12. "no, you lead."
  13. well, here's the dragon wagon - now, where's the dragon? Joe
  14. what is a "parking ticket?" Joe
  15. okay, so how do I get into this thing? Joe
  16. Yep, this IS a good book and highly recommmended. It will be getting a copy or two for my workdesk...and buy is it gonna get mileage! Joe
  17. Here's one of my monsters - this was for BrickFest for the Dark Room, which used blacklights to illuminate the trans-neon elements. This would be for the "Here Comes A Monster " category - and this is a Coelecanth. (well, it really isn't, but I like the name) This has the distinction of being the single ugliest MOC I have built. Details: Opening mouth and gills Movable fins and tail Teeth glow Sea Monkey mount I have a couple more, so I will be posting before deadline...been workingon a magazine:-) Joe
  18. Hm. I have a few movies that are noteworthy with a quote: 1. Raiders of the Lost Ark - the first one for Indy is the best one for me. Great script and characters! ..."I don't know, I'm making it up as I go along." 2. Disney's Beauty and the Beast - the moment at the end where Belle recognizes Beast after he transforms is a moment where the movie went beyond an animated film.. ..."It's you." 3. Casablanca - great lines and script. ..."That is my least vulnerable spot." 4. The American President - I would want a person like Andrew Shepherd to be President. ..."Oh, you only fight the fights you can win? You fight the fights that need fighting! " 5. The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai in the Eighth Dimension - I get the impression that many of you haven't seen this flick...rent it! It's a really neat cult flick! ..."No matter where you go, there you are." 6. Star Trek III: The Search for Spock - I'm one of the few that like III the best, and it's because it dealt with the theme of friendship and sacrifice. ..." Jim. Your name... is Jim." 7. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King - a film should take you somewhere...this one goes much farther. ..."That still only counts as one. " 8. Animal House - I will admit it's vulgar, but it's hysterical! ..."I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part." 9. Field of Dreams - a film with an enormous amount of heart. ..."What you grinning at, you ghost?" 10. The Sandlot - Another baseball flick, but also with a lot of heart. ..."You play ball like a giiirrrrrrrrl!" 11. American Graffiti - before Star Wars, George Lucas made this film... ..."Somebody wants me. Somebody's who's out there, roaming the streets, wants ME... Would you turn the corner? There are many others, but these come to mind first. Joe
  19. Thanks for the comments - I put in the black on the orange and white ship as an anti-glare panel, which are on many planes. This ship reminds me of trainer jets, as they had the same color scheme. The red ship is a scout and the dish is a radar array - and yes it's odd:-) - but this is a high speed scout that needs the array to take readings. The red and white is the color scheme I like the most, mainly because it's my high school and college colors. Joe
  20. I was thinking sunfish myself. Pretty cool! Joe
  21. Thanks languages and Lost Viking - my gallery is the sum of four years of early constant building, so I'm happy you like it. As for BrickJournal, the next issue is coming. Soon. Joe
  22. Sven's choice of defense from the wolf proved to be unwise. Joe
  23. Hi Apo! Some NICE building in your Brickshelf folder - I really like the Tripod Monster. And while I don't build Castle, you have some nice Castle MOCs! Joe
  24. Hi all, I built this for BrickFest, but it never was shown (I sorta forgot it)... You can see more here after moderation. PLMKWYT! Joe
  25. Hi all, I finally got around to photograph these - they are each about a year old... and They were first built for an event almost a year ago, and have been used in various displays since! Gallery is here, after moderation. What do you think? Joe .space paparazzi!
