  1. Cool. I wasn't actually being serious about all that nonsense. I guess I just find the whole ethnicity question a tad silly. All of my ancestory can be traced to England, yet I would never identify myself as being of either "English" or "British" ethnicity simply because I associate those terms with nations or national identity first and foremost. I mean, I've always seen somebody who is "British" or "English" as being somebody who is born in those countries. This question has just been on my mind as I've never identified myself as being anything but a Canadian.
  2. The whole "Pippi Longstockings" nonsense is something of a giveaway. Trust me, this is going to be a long day for anybody who takes things too seriously.
  3. So it begins. How I HATE April Fool's Day :-D !
  4. I'm 579 plates tall according to the chart.
  5. Perhaps indeed X-D . Lopsided polls are no fun. A poll with ten fairly unpopular minifig-oriented lines would be interesting though. From KKII and Fright Knights to Rock Raiders and Life on Mars; the possibilities are endless :-D .
  6. I agree with this definition. Minifigs are just that; LEGO figures made with specialized parts that make the figure recognizeable as such. I don't consider ordinary brick-built figs/animals/droids to be minifigs.
  7. Ah, but are they Normans, Saxons, Celts, or pre-Celtic? :-D
  8. The poll is sort of pointless isn't it? I mean, how many people really regard Galidor as a LEGO sub-theme anyways? The line is despised beyond belief, so making a poll doesn't accomplish much other than restate what everybody already knows. It's like asking somebody whether they would rather have a glass of water or a glass of sewage with their dinner. Galidor may be a LEGO product, but it doesn't take a(nother) poll to acknowledge that this line is beyond unpopular.
  9. Thank goodness! I thought I was the only one who was really confused by all of this. I still would love to know what people mean when they say they are arbitrarily throwing around all of these percentages. It seems that some people are speaking of nationality, others of race, while others are speaking of heritage and a few simply seem to be mixing them all together.
  10. Of course the most negative group of fans are the fans who take issue with anyone who takes issue with anything ;-) . At the end of the day, complaining is fun so I don't really find myself bothered by any of the complaints made by other fans. Complaining leads to the light side *yoda* .
  11. I'm sorry, but in Canada we measure height in plates.
  12. I used to be into the castle line but the prices have killed it for me. Right now I love alot of the LEGO exclusives like the Corner Cafe and Green Grocer. More than anything, I'm into Bricklink *vader*
  13. I'm still very confused by this whole thread. I mean, are nationalities (particularly countries that are largely colonial like Australia, Canada, the US and New Zealand) actually ethnicities to begin with? I know that there are some nations that are defined by their ethnicity (Japan, China etc.), but how does this apply to nations where the overwhelming majority of citizens are recent immigrants? Heck, even English is hard to define given that Britian itself is very multi-cultural. Is a person of Indian or Chinese ethnicity born in England also ethnically English? I'd argue that they are more English than I could ever be, despite my ancestory. In multi-cultural nations, the notion of ethnicity comes across as a bit difficult to define. It's an interesting topic, but I find that it's very confusing given that what constitutes ethnicity doesn't seem to have a clear definition.
  14. Don't you be bringing logic into my silliness :-P .
  15. WRONG! ALL Canadians are born obsessed with Hockey :-D !
  16. I'm curious; how exactly is "French Canadian" any different from just plain old "French"? As for me; my family tree is all English which means very little given that Britian has been invaded and settled by so many different peoples. If anybody asks me my background I insist that I am Canadian and only Canadian. Anything beyond that is irrelevant. When it comes down to it, there has been too much migration to really pin down one's ethnicity to a single nation.
  17. Bricklink is a MOCer's paridise. I use it for everything. In fact, most of my AFOL purchasing has been done through bricklink. I purchased a bunch of legends back in the day, and I've picked up a few sets but the bulk of my buying is done through bricklink where I get the pieces I want for a far better price. While certain figs/parts are expensive, bricklink is often an inexpensive resource for bricks that alot of builders simply overlook. Who can pass that up?
  18. I have no problem with keeping a lid on religious discussion. We are a small community here and any contentious or heated debates only serve to splinter a group of people with a common interest. I respect the right of others to speak their minds, but I'm also well aware that this is not a public forum. I guess what it comes down to is that anybody has the right to speak their mind. Conversely, the administration also has the right to ask individuals to leave when those same persons discuss an unwelcome topic. People need to remember that freedom of speech is a right granted by governments, not private organizations (and even that right has limits). Anybody who wishes to create a LEGO forum that allows for the discussion of political or religious topics is free to do so, just as others have created LEGO forums where there are almost no non-LEGO discussions allowed (Classic Castle for example). It is simply the owner/creator exercising his or her right to create an environment that he or she is comfortable with. We as users are simply guests who are free to leave (or be asked to leave) at any point.
  19. Honestly, right now I'd be jumping for joy if I could get if for the Australian price. Imagine having to pay $399.99 for it (+ tax) instead? I'm wondering how many of these things they will actually sell? I mean, when you look at the set there's an aweful lot of kibble in there that makes me wonder why anybody would want it for anything other than chess? It kind of reminds me of the ridiculous price that you Australians had to pay for the Millennium Falcon. I can't imagine alot of people choosing to fork up that kind of cash for a set. I get the feeling that LEGO has really misjudged their market with this one.
  20. That's the stuff! If you haven't noticed, several LEGO acronyms are the by-products of bodily functions. (BURP, CRAPP, SNOT). The best part is that the "C" in CRAPP actually stands for "Crappy" :-D . Silly AFOLs and their toilet humour.
  21. BOOOOO!!! What's with the ridiculous Canadian pricing?! While the US price has gone up, the Canadian price is way higher than any other country. Australians are paying $299, while we are stuck with a price tag of $399, and we have to pay tax on top of that. Our price is over $100 more than in Europe or Australia. I mean, I'm used to paying higher prices than the US but it seems that as US pricing rises, we Canadians are getting absolutely robbed. Ridiculous.
  22. I like it because it is both the biggest AND the best :-D .
  23. Honestly, I liked the good ol' days when LEGO had a few core lines that they continued to expand on year after year. With Town and the apparent continuation of Castle in 2009 I'm more interested in how these lines develop as a coherent unit rather than saturating the market with short-lived lines that don't do much other than hurt LEGO's bottom line. While I wouldn't mind seeing the return of Pirates and Space, I've never been a huge fan of having 20+ different one-year lines that fans and kids start to collect only to find out that the line has already been discontinued. I look at lines like Ninja, Vikings and any number of other one or two year lines as being major disappointments simply because the lines were dropped before they had a real chance to develop. I don't want to see Castle or any other line go down the tubes simply so that LEGO can introduce a new line that will last as long as memorable favorites like Rock Raiders, Time Cruisers or Dino Attack. My dream line is... Castle. Needless to say, I don't really want to see it dropped for another line that doesn't really grab buyer interest forcing me to wait another decade for a castle revival.
  24. Actually, the US economy isn't exactly flying high right now, which of course has adverse effects on all of it's trade partners. From what little I know about the economy, aren't most economists predicting a major worldwide recession within the next five years? Market pricing and economic well-being don't necessarily go hand in hand. Alot of the time the best deals come on the doorsetps of a recession as businesses desparately try and stimulate buyer interest. The US has traditionally had better pricing than other markets. European pricing isn't unusually high. American pricing is simply better than anywhere else in the world (on most goods). Whether this continues for the next 20+ years will be anyone's guess. Given that some companies can't find a way to turn a profit in the US, I wouldn't be surprised if US pricing gradually climbs as the US economy gives way to emerging financial superpowers like China and India. As for set pricing, different pieces are priced differently. Heck, LEGO pricing doesn't even translate on a set by set basis between regions. At the end of the day, LEGO will always charge what they think you and me as consumers are willing to pay. Americans who have come to expect lower prices would probably scoff at paying prices that non-Americans begrudgingly accept. I don't think that there's anything more to it.
  25. Colour me impressed! That's some crazy collection you've got there. I never would have imagined that there was a fan out there with such an enormous collection of LEGO. Well done on the collection *y* .
