[MOC] AquaJune a month of Aquazone
Josh120 replied to the Inventor's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
This is REALLY cool, Aquazone was also some of my earliest Lego...before it came out I liked Blacktron II, so I was instantly grabbed by that first model that borrows heavily from their cockpit designs. It seems of-the-time and even more plausible that it had been an Aquanaut sub designed back then. Even the basic designs have this authenticity. They all fit in as sets -even bizarrely into unoccupied roles/price brackets in the themes. Aside from the HUGE upgrade terrain/fauna/wildlife, which is simply too good to have happened- 13 replies

Epic bump but I just saw this set for sale MISB at a local shop for $75. If I really wanted it, it would be easy to buy online for $35 used but man. Seeing an actual new set from 1997 with the open-flap lid front cover showing all the pieces inside just destroyed me...sweating bullets wanting to go back and buy this thing.

I can't believe you used that Aquasharks canopy in a MOC in a way that really made perfect sense...that thing has been the "other" canopy piece to me since ancient times. But it makes perfect sense on such an aggressive looking fighter. Ice planet colors are so good I really missed out on the deep freeze defender back then.....

What are some of your favorite themes/sets?
Josh120 replied to Legomind3000's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I finally made a profile to respond to this. Okay...best sets of all time, exciting topic! Let's go. I think coolest theme was Aquanauts...the color scheme, the magnets, the blue dome pieces, the raised baseplates, all the fig accessories and flippers, still love it. It's also the only theme I ever managed to 100% collect and it was very early in my lego career...lucky for me it was only 5 sets!! Neptune Discovery Lab Monorail Transport Base Spectral Starguider Star Hawk II Technic Space Shuttle Skull's Eye Schooner And more because I'm posting too many pictures: 6397 Gas N' Wash Express, 6398 Central Precinct HQ, 4558 Metroliner 9516 Jabba's Palace, 10188 Death Star, 7140 X-Wing Just looking at all of the above sets back to back is making me dizzy. -
I have a like-new Jango Fett up for grabs, PM an offer. edit: this thread is from 2009. I'm a dip lol

One heck of a typo.

Glad to see there's some interest. The ONLY Mega Bloks parts I'm using are the figures themselves and some weapons, though I'm replacing Leo's thick and fruity katanas with LEGO katana ninja swords. The MB weapons are actually very nice, especially mikes nunchuckas, which are actually joined by a chain (!) For Foot ninja, I'm using lego bodies with a MB ninja head. The heads dont come off as so noticably different or mis-matched with the Lego, as theyre made of this soft plastic material that seems like the kind of thing Lego would do these days. I actually like it a lot, as it allows the ends of the tied bandanas to bend. I made a LOT of progress on this in my first day, something of a rarity (lol). I came up with a REALLY COOL way to do round sewer tunnels, and for all of the sewer walls I'm using dark orange/burnt orange (whatever you call it...UCS Yoda Orange). It's making for a look that feels right out of the cartoon. (I took a bunch of screencaps of early episodes). Any turtle fan here is going to be highly amused ;-) As for street level, a pizzeria is a no-brainer. If the project is substantially delayed, though, it'll be because I decided to do the Channel 6 News building X-D I'm PRAYING that Turtles in Time makes it onto Wii's virtual console with online multiplayer added.

I haven't been to Eurobricks in a very long time, but I've recently gotten back into LEGO so I'm back on the internet scene as well. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were my first "phase" as a little kid, and I think they're still cool, from equal parts legitimate reasons and nostalgia. When Mega Bloks released some sets under a TMNT license, it was the first time I so much as considered a Mega Bloks set, but I still didn't bite. However, I admittedly did admire the mini-figures. I finally was able to affordably buy them, inspiring this project that kicks off a fresh start after an approximately 1 year dark ages. I'm hard at work and it will be a while, but in the meantime here's a charming teaser image. I hope you all can forgive me; I am no longer pure, I am tainted. I'm using mega bloks parts, even if they are just mini-figs. But I'm also having a lot of fun :-)

You really ought to call them up. Skip the email/webform or whatever you used. I'm sure if you talk to an actual service rep, the'll make it right

When I first read about this theme, I was intrigued and excited. Anime-hair?!! Mechs?!!! Then I saw the pictures, and I have to say I'm dissapointed. This theme combines the most stereotypically bad saturday morning dubbed anime with lame and ugly mech designs. And to boot, all the hair is in zany colors. Not a bad thing, this IS manga inspired, but cant we have some relatively regular colors like black and brown just to make some mainstream characters even kids would like, like black-haired Saiyans or Heero Yuy, etc? Another wasted opportunity. Pity they couldnt look to the Titan XP set for inspiration on designs. -Josh

Hate to even mention this and break up the zany fun, but TIE Army? Don't you mean TIE Armada? Or TIE Navy?

Starcraft. Ditto.

Least successful Lego line/set (Galidor excl.)
Josh120 replied to gylman's topic in General LEGO Discussion
To say that Aquanauts did not do well would be silly; if Aquanauts sold poorly, why did the Aquazone line continue on until 1998? I always had the impression, actually, that Aquazone did extremely well and is a model theme from a product development/design/quality standpoint. LEGO has released a lot of stuff that just never got off the ground and lost them money. I feel that their insistence of coming up with more pointless lines constantly negates the profits of the one time they struck gold (Bionicle). Rather than taking a hard look at the market and delivering specifically what will get purchased, I feel like they release every strange idea that they can think of hoping that one will actually work. The Dinosaurs may not have sold on a Star Wars scale but I don't think they were a disaster; at least everybdy can recognize and appreciate a dinosuar. The NBA sets have to have been the worst blunder besides Galidor; no doubt they never even got back the cost on the NBA license. -Josh
