  1. ok, I need to power quite a lot of engines and I'm asking the experts now... it doesn't matter to me if the battery will last for less time, when you have 5 or 6 spares, you also have time to recharge the empty ones while using the full ones. my worry is if this scenario is going to damage the motors. thank you in advance for your replies have a nice train lego day mrBlue edit: spelling check
  2. thank you for the nice review! it's always a pleasure to refresh our memory with old sets! have a nice lego day mrBlue
  3. may buy this set, but as others pointed out, it seems a bit too many things thrown there to fill some gaps. figs are ok, nothing wow, but ok. for the base, to me, it looks like more a kids edition than a limited (star wars fans) one, with lots of "play" feature and nothing organized. have a nice lego day mrBlue
  4. yes, it would be easier, but it will not be a true test... how many people runs their trains upside down and not on tracks? for sure few have just an oval tracks too (with 50% curves and 50% straights), but at least it would represent a bit more a "real" common scenery have a nice train lego day mrBlue
  5. I did an LDD test, but with heavy mod to hide the battery box! but the result is a larger part of the loco, making the engine looks really different! another option is using custom decals. unfortunately, even if I ordered all the needed parts, everything is boxed, ready to move, so I have no chance to try the brick built final result, but I can see in the future that after this attempt, I'll surely try with the sticker option for a better result! have a nice train lego day mrBlue
  6. ha ha ha... it took over a week to get to the easiest point and solution that takes just about 5 hours: 2 ovals, let's say 16 curves and 16 straights and two pf engines. if there is going to be a poll, my vote is going to "low speed, longer run" anyway, even if I'm not that much into electronics & c., it's been a really interesting "teaching topic"! have a nice train lego experiment day mrBlue
  7. very good! and thanx for sharing! now let's just hope that down there at tlg someone is reading this post and thinking to include this idea in one of their next modular buildings! do you have a more or less piece count in mind? have a nice lego day mrBlue
  8. no doubts for me! BNSF! even if the maersk has a better quality and design and the super chief has a more streamlined and rounded shape, the bnsf remains an iconic engine! have a nice train lego day mrBlue
  9. before buying the maersk, I wanted to have a couple of engine of the same kind, but didn't want to buy two maersk. so using the same instructions I build (ldd actually and ordered the bricks on bl) two engines in yellow-black colors, and I planned to put lights on them. the only solution I found that time was to put a light inside the cabin, where the 1x2 brick with vertical slot is, by substituting it with two 1x1 bricks with headlight. after examining better the maersk design, the only solution I found (without heavy mod) is to drill a hole in the 3x2 plate in front of the cabin, keeping the stud and drill the brick inside as well. I know that for some purist will not sound a good idea, but I ordered replacement bricks just in case! have a nice train lego day mrBlue
  10. I have been lucky to find the misb loco at a reasonable price and going light bluish for the coaches made me spend about 30/40 € max for each one! too bad lego doesn't sell anymore the wheels in this color, but I have been able to order them on time and some more than needed! prices of misb sets and parts for these coaches on ebay or bricklink are simply crazy! have a nice train lego day mrBlue
  11. since in my future layout I will not have to worry too much about available space, I already planned to have at least 30/40% of the layout dedicated to shunting and trainyard area. unfortunately, few days ago I read a post about including also an harbor... and this made me think to change something in the plan to leave a little spot for this too. anyway, for me, having a train and no trainyard would be a too sad situation! most of the train fun comes from shunting. have a nice train lego day mrBlue
  12. ...or you can do like I did... build your own in light bluish gray using brick built doors. in this way you'll save a looot of money! especially on those rare parts! have a nice train lego day mrBlue
  13. parallel tracks are not a problem if you have 4.5/12v, classic 9v trains or moc 6 wide. troubles come when you start "using" modern lego trains like the emerald night, which are wider than 6 studs. a better solution would be to use tracks separated by 8 studs. you can get this by inverting the two upper switches in my previous pic, but I guess you need this situation to be able to use the classic electric level crossing, right? to use that (and other too) I had to make a huge order of 1x8 tiles and 6x8 ramp on bricklink! have a nice train lego day mrBlue
  14. sorry, I was not at home and away from computer. here you are my solution keeping the tracks very close to each other: hope it can help have a nice lego train day mrBlue
  15. what about flip the two lower switches? later I'll post a similar situation I faced in my layout. have a nice train lego day mrBlue
  16. for the first problem, I remember an article in one of the latest railbrick issues (nr. 7 or 8) that was fixing the same problem on the emerald night. if I'm not wrong they suggested to use a thin layer of that plastic transparent paper used for foods (don't know the english name). cover the end of the axle and push it in the wheel. hope it can help have a nice train lego day mrBlue
  17. if you ask people around me, the answer would be very short... TOO MUCH !!! even if I think it's never enough. actually it's about 1 hour in the morning before going to work spent on the net, plus let's say 1 to 4 hours during the free time in the afternoon that can be spent with LDD or net, plus 1 to 2 hours in the evening/night when I come back home from work, but this is if talking about a lucky day! sometimes it's only 1 hour a day. about building can be about 4/6 hours, but not often, especially now that all my lego are packed and ready to move. have a nice lego day mrBlue
  18. well, I'm happy that lego brought back the Egyptian theme that I missed with the first adventurers line... and that I still have not been able to collect I got the Hhimalaya, India and China adventurers sets though, and I should be happy enough! for a new wave, it would be nice to see the returns of something jungle-oriented or even icy-mountain... I'm also thinking that lego made this pharaoh's quest line to check if people would still have liked this theme, and I think that tlc should have got enough good responses to make a new series soon! have a nice lego day mrBlue
  19. for me, the last set I got before my dark age was the "cosmic fleet voyager" set no. 6985 and the set that brought me back to lego has been the "Y-wing fighter" set no. 7658. isn't strange that I started a long trip (that lasted for about 20 years) embarking on a cosmic fleet voyager to come back with another starship? have a nice lego day mrBlue EDIT: topic moved and text fixed to suit the topic
  20. very nice town! and it looks like you have a lot of space for growing! one suggestion would be to add a wheel (don't know how, but thinking) on the end of the barrier close to the cafe corner: in this way when you raise and lower it, the wheel will spin and make the gate in the right position. one question: what did you use to keep the track in place? I have seen some "little something" but I cannot understand what they are! and if you hve nailed them, why not nail the track directly? have a nice train lego day mrBlue
  21. very good! especially the fact that you included even a bath in your moc! it's a little detail, but it makes the creation a step higher in realistic way, and you kept the feeling of lego! regarding the clinic, I don't think I'll ever go there... that big eye scares me!!! have a nice lego day mrBlue
  22. I missed (and regret all of) pirates, western, harry potter and adventurer themes, but thanx to ebay and bricklink, I have been able to put my hands on most of the misb sets I wanted except for the pirates... still far too expensive! have a nice lego day mrBlue
  23. too bad, a very good review for a not so good set. personally, I will not buy this set! if lego decided to make a more container oriented set, I would have spent some time on thinking about it, but even if grain is a good integration to the farm line, it's still not much appealing to me, and I also see this set as a very <insert that tiresome argument> one. it's ok for the ship hull, but as you pointed out, either the conveyor belt and also many details missing, not to mention the "not raised" baseplates, make this set (imho) a fail. this time I'll pass, it will be for next year... have a nice lego day mrBlue
  24. using a M motor allowed him to make a three axles engine, while using a train motor you'll end up with a two axles engine. this could be the answer. I like it very much! it's a while I'm thinking about making a copy of that beautiful 12v era engine! the only thing I would change, it's the overall lenght: I would make it 2 or 4 studs shorter, but it's just me! your moc is beautiful! have a nice train lego day mrBlue
  25. has anyone tried with the easy to find olive oil? sometimes it makes miracles, and I have never heard it damages plastic... maybe it's worth a try have a nice train lego day mrBlue
