Lego Store in Copenhagen, Denmark
timbutnice replied to phoinix's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Just got back from Copenhagen, there is indeed a Lego store in the airport, but its quite small - say about 1/4 the size of a typical Lego brand store. Almost half of it is clothes. They did however have all the new PoP sets - haven't seen these anywhere else at all yet. It is pricey, I'd say between 50-75% more expensive than the UK or Euro S@H prices - but a quick check of prices in Dansih Kroner on S@H shows that the airport shop may be typical of Danish prices. I'm going back to Copenhagen over the next month, so has anyone got any more suggestions on good toy stores that carry Lego in the city (hopefully at better prices!)? cheers timbutnice -
This is my oldest set: but this was my first one (and I still love it): cheers, timbutnice

Classic pirates all the way - why pay extra (50%? 100%? ) more just because it has POTC branding on the box? I know you could say the same thing about star wars and classic space, but I think its different for two reasons - firstly, classic space and star wars have a very different feel to them, with ships such as the x-wing and tie-fighter having a separate iconography of their own. How exactly will a POTC ship stand out from a classic pirate ship? Secondly, star wars has a huge amount (films, TV, books, comics) of 'back story', that POTC can't hope to match. This means that unlike star wars, where we've just had the tenth anniversary, can anyone see a POTC license lasting more than 2-3 years? Think of batman - again, loads more material than POTC, cool as hell, yet discontinued? Worst case: no more pirates of any hue Next worst case: POTC (with fleshies NYAAAARR!) for a year or two Bad but not terrible: no more classic pirates, but we get POTC for a long time (I'd buy at this point*) Best: classic pirates come back and stay back YYYAAAAAARR! just my 2p... cheers, timbutnice *okay, I'd probably buy anyway, but just on deep discount - I ain't paying no premium, Mr Sparrow.

Exclusive Train 10194 Emerald Night (Exclusive 2009)
timbutnice replied to der seb's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I think its real - if you look at the photo, the side of the boiler looks to be curved, due to the way the light falls on it. However, TLG have a history of photoshopping their pics with some 'interesting' effects to make perfectly flat surfaces look curved, e.g. Ferrari Spider on Bricklink - the side wall is vertical, not curved, despite how this picture looks - is the same thing going on here? If so, it would fit in with the way that TLG set their pics up. Of course, it could well be real and it could well be curvy - I hope so on both counts! cheers, timbutnice- 559 replies

Just picked up Darth Vader's Tie Fighter, and a Hyena Bomber (25% off at Argos) Not strictly today, but at the weekend I came across a promo cardboard display stand, full of 2008 impulse sets. About 3 minutes later it didn't have any of the Knight sets (I bought all 8 and a Good Wizard for good measure). Buoyed by this unexpected find, I treated myself to the Dozer to celebrate! cheers, timbutnice

Apologies if this has been posted already, but Argos have a 25% sale on Lego Star Wars -the prices have been modified online, but online only the RGS has a 'save x £s' message against it. The prices are real - I picked up a Darth vader tie and the Hyena Bomber. cheers, timbutnice

I loved the Vikings - it remains the only theme of which I own every set (not that I wouldn't like to own every set of pretty much every other theme ) One of the highpoints was the return to (relatively speaking) large numbers of minifigs per set cheers, timbutnice

like this one (albeit MOC not official).... Brickshelf there was a thread on this somewhere round here in the last few months... cheers, timbutnice

Brighton has the added advantage of being somehwere where you can have a day out (albeit its a more summer oriented destination). Very easy to get to - you can get express trains from London Victoria that only have a few stops (there may even be a direct non stop train). cheers, timbutnice

I agree - in the London area in the UK the cupboard is pretty bare - my local TRU normally has around 15-20 feet of Lego space, yesterday down to around 4. Local department stores are almost completely sold out - my local Argos has nothing at all (I went through every -yes I am that dull- number in the catalogue yesterday). Even the Lego shop in Brighton was quite sparse - the shelves were full, but with multiples of the same sets, very few medium or small sets. I overheard a shop assistant in the Entertainer telling a customer that Lego had by far the worst distribution of any of their suppliers, and that they wouldn't stock it if it wasn't so popular - although he categorized popular as being 'everyone had Lego when they were kids' rather than 'its flying off the shelves now'. Could just be post Christmas issues, Lego may be deliberately holding back production (and hence supply) in the current climate - especially given their overstocking earlier in the decade, or (and this is my guess), they really are pretty poor at demand forecasting and supply fulfillment. This isn't supposed to be a 'bash Lego' comment - I really want them to succeed (I need them to ), but they aren't going to if they can't get goods into shops to sell... hope it gets better soon as I have saved-up-for-post-Christmas cash to spend! cheers, timbutnice

Review: 6034 Black Monarch's Ghost
timbutnice replied to Nikola Bathory's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I was lucky enough to spot 10 of these on clearance for £1 each about 4 years ago - needless to say I snapped them all up. Still counts as one of my top lego finds - thanks for the review which revived a happy Lego memory! cheers, timbutnice -
Today I hit the SAH sales and bought a Battle Wheel an Ultra Drill Walker and some loose bricks (first time for me using SAH pick a brick online - interesting to see how it compares to Bricklink). Didn't strictly buy these, but yesterday, for some reason these came into my possession: cheers, timbutnice

What a brilliant day to release new sets! highlights for me (UK prices) Medieval Market Place £68.50 Brickbear's Bounty £48.95 Soldier's Fort £34.25 Dozer £19.55 Crawler Crane £39.15 Construction Site £58.69 Ashoka's Starfighter £29.35 Count Dooku's Solar Sailor £39.15 AAT £39.15 Darth Vader's Tie Fighter £29.35 Best bit - MMP (hope the price stays like that) Best suprise - Solar Sailor Most improved in 'likely to buy' stakes - AAT All the prices (with the exception of the Crawler Crane and Construction Site) are much better than I was expecting. Only low point is the lack of Farm, but MMP more than makes up for it! I was hoping the sales and deals section would have been updated, but not yet (must keep sneaking away to check Now where did I put my wallet....? cheers and a wonderful Christmas to you all, timbutnice (sorry I haven't posted all the new UK prices, but I've got a large extended family to entertain!)
