Heroica RPG - Quest #20: Missing Minerals!
UsernameMDM replied to UsernameMDM's topic in The Heroica Archive
The heroes search the alcove but come up with nothing. No other entrance to this tunnel could be found, so they determine that this creature must be the reason for the missing minerals. They pause for a moment and check out their options. They could head back and report to the Steward, or they could return to the previous level and explore two more tunnels, possibly gaining more experience and loot. What would the party like to do? -

The explosive crunches ring louder and louder and louder as the heroes slink closer and closer. Could it be a rogue mining group? Or a dragon? Or some hideous magical beast spewed out of the alchemists pits?!? Or...this?.... A rocky crystalline creatures awkwardly turns to face the heroes as it chews on rock and grabs a gold ore to munch on next. He emits a low gravelly cry and ambles towards the party. Looks like someone doesn't want to share! Hoke sighed to himself. He was not sure why an adventurer so green was chosen to be the party leader. Just following him may be both an act of charity and valor. Hoke chuckled softly. It was no matter though; Hoke would do his best to support the group and fulfill his role. -
Yes it would! Sign me up for that quest.

Hoke walked up to the group as Arthur handed over the two parchments. He listened intently to all the given information, but kept his words to himself for now. He had not quested with any of these heroes, so introductions would be in order once their employer was done. "Imbuing a sword? I may just get a little practice along the way," Hoke thought to himself as he flipped his gems around his fingers. He was eager to try out his new found powers as a Mystic Knight. I trained for Mystic Knight and made a quick shopping trip. Updated my signature accordingly. Thanks for picking me. -
Seeing that he was selected for a quest, Hoke made a quick dash to the Marketplace for some last minute supplies: First, he wanted to pull the sapphire from Vintul. Hoke was torn by this decision, but he would rather have the gem available and the sword effective against all enemies. Secondly, Hoke upgraded his shield to SP 7: 229 - (50+60+70) = 119 Next, he stopped by Portia's for a few items: Sell: 1 Venom, Buy: 1 Remedy, 1 Grand Tonic, 1 Fire Bomb: 49 + 2 - (10+30+10) = 1 Hoke looked at his nearly empty pouch with a grin. At least he would be truly prepared this quest. He rushed off to join the group in their latest quest.

The heroes continue straight down the tunnel. They all seem to become more and more tense as they warily make their way Swindle must have noticed their current situation and stopped whistling. Twice the heroes nearly stumbled into chasms and pits, but the Steward's torch steadily lights the precarious their path. Further and further they travel, sweat dripping down their necks in the stifling air. After what seems to be the better part of the day of hearing nothing but the rhythmic clinking of their gear and the hum of the ever steady torch, the heroes are jarred to a halt by an explosive sound like rocks being crushed. -
Hoke awoke wide eyed from this sleep to see an active hall. He enjoyed his evening with Boomingham and was glad to hear the paladin speak from a steady mind. He looked around and it seemed that Jess had snapped out of her Wren induced trance. Haldor was there at her side again, belting out his emotions. “You’re trying too hard,” Hoke muttered as he pulled himself up from the large chair. He popped his neck and rolled his shoulders to loosen up a bit before taking a meal. He noticed Boomingham standing next to a rough character dressed in roguish finery. The scarlet sash seemed to tie it all together. Hoke walked over to them just in time to put his hand on Boomingham’s wrist as he reached for the morning’s ale. “Fair day to you my friends! Lord Boomingham, let’s work up a thirst first before we partake. I would like to test your steel to see if it truly does shine as you say it does in your battles. I have discovered a perfect place to spar in a grove not too far outside the city walls. Care to join us Tesni?" Hoke looks up from Boomingham to the slick haired man. “You look familiar to me, but perhaps we have not been properly introduced. Hoke Ablesword,” Hoke says as he extends his hand towards Boomingham’s companion.

The party ventures further down the tunnel. They can feel the rock walls and ceiling closing in around them and seem to be making further descent deeper into the mountain. Swindle does not seem to mind or not notice as he absent mindedly whistles and sings a merry tune about going to work. After what seems hours, the adventurers come to another intersection. Straight or Right? -
Glad you're back.
-
Hoke pats Boomingham on both the shoulders with broad smile splayed across his face. "Anytime my friend," Hoke chuckles as he motions to an inn keep for some food. "Let's find a spot by the fire to dry off your clothes and lift the fog in your head. And here we go," Hoke says as he lifts Boomingham up and walks him over to a chair by the fire. "Sorry folks, but this eve's entertainment is at an end. My lord Boomingham needs some proper rest and reflection. Quiet conversation is welcome." Hoke winks to the astonished onlookers and joins Boomingham by the fire just as the food arrives.
-
Hoke enters the lively Heroica Hall for an evening meal. As he walks towards the bar, he sees Boomingham surrounded by a small crowd. Hoke quietly walks over as to not interrupt the tale he hoped to hear. Instead of heroics of long ago, he hears Boomingham's slurred stupor and Barty's schoolmaster nagging. A little grin starts to spread over Hoke's face as he continues to the bar. "A jug of your coldest water please," Hoke requests. "Many thanks and happy eve to you," Hoke says with a wink. Whistling a merry little tune he heard in the Marketplace, Hoke hoists the large jug unto his shoulder and walks up behind the drunken bad example that is Boomingham. He motions for those around to step back. "Time to sober up my good sir," Hoke announces as he pours the entire jug on top of Boominghams's head and down his back.

Dak searches the rest of the alcove but finds nothing. The adventurers journey to the end of the tunnel, past the intersection, and come to another dead end. They double track back to the original intersection for this level. Straight or Right? -
And that's what you call throwing the questers a bone! After all the searching and digging, I couldn't believe y'all were going to just leave the room with treasure in it!

De'kra's aim was a little off. Instead of striking the shiny object, he struck the wall around it. A large chunk popped out of the tunnel wall. De'kra worked on the piece a little more. All that was left after he was done was a shiny red RUBY. Party leader assign the ruby to its new owner. -
Why not Gerard Butler?
