  1. I assume because they were used as engines in classic space sets.
  2. I don't think I've ever had a dark age. I do have several hobbies so my day-to-day interest in Lego tends to come and go (I go through phases), but I don't think a year has gone by since my early childhood that I haven't gotten at least one Lego set.
  3. From a model railroading standpoint, a table lets you get more realistic pictures. We see trains in the real world at eye level, not from the air (unless you're on an Airplane!). Many model railroads are built about chest height for a more realistic view.
  4. Great layout! What do you use for traction tires for the 4.5v motors? I recently rebuilt my only lego train, set 7722, but the traction tires crumbled apart in my hands. I'd really like to run the train again, assuming it still works. ( I guess I'd need to buy some grey track, too, since I am missing one rail).
  5. That track would be perfect for LEGO scale Narrow Gauge Trains.... Great review!
  6. No Pirates 11/17/2008 in Waco, TX. :( Hoping they come in before the 20th so I can use that coupon...
  7. I've seen these dozens of times but I just now noticed the flags on the Ship are flying the wrong way. Oops!
  8. Yes, "Modular" refers to the Technic pieces that let you rearrange the set in different ways without having to tear part of it up. Modular construction lets you change things easily and create new models without having to start from scratch. MOC stands for My Own Creation, and is just that...your own creation! :)
  9. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the "new" Palm tree just the same Mold as was used in the 4+ Pirates theme a few years ago? So far these sets look great....lets get some detailed reviews!
  10. Yes, I think the Shipwreck set will likely be S@H/Toys R Us Exclusive...And it may come out later, too, just like the Agents sub set.
  11. A few earlier catalogs referenced a May release...which I would say means...March? Seems like it's always earlier than Lego says...
  12. I don't have any batman sets but I think he is referring to the fact that the Tommy guns are on the same "wheel" (the sprue that the molds are formed on) of parts as the batarang. So to include it you would have to include batarangs.
  13. I picked this up last weekend, mainly also for parts. It came with two Mutt heads instead of a Irena Head. :( But anyway, it's a nice little $10 set...We need more sets like this that include these myriads of "detail" parts.
  14. Sorry to bump this old topic but this is quite possibly my favorite Lego Space set, topping even the Futuron Monorail. I remember getting this set for Christmas and being ecstatic. Such a great set. It was also my first Lego set with missing pieces. :( Was missing several pieces, some of which I filled from my own collection, but I didn't a 1x1 plate modified with Vertical clip (needed to hold the large antennas on). This was way before the days of the internet so my Mom had to call Shop@Home..Heck, I'm not even sure if it was called Shop@Home then. I do remember they got it sorted out, but it was pretty disappointing. (I should add that it was YEARS before I got another set missing a piece...) I also didn't like the way the top radar dish thing spun around, so I replaced the lazy susan with a regular 2x2 plate. Still have this model built on the shelf...I don't think it's ever been apart since I built it...Thanks for the excellent review!
  15. Could we possibly get some sort of index to PtV MOC threads? Recently a slew of older threads have been getting replied to which is making it very difficult to find the actual PtV entries...
  16. Got mine today as well. Nothing new. Heck, they didn't even showcase everything...Only a few of the Indiana Jones sets were shown...
  17. This is a nice scene...but at times it seems almost too chaotic for me. It looks like you picked up some pieces and just scattered them over the MOC. For example, that blue plate in the middle of the market, and the blue tile behind that. Those look random and out-of place. I noticed an Ice Planet 2002 head in there--that looks a little odd, but you may not have had a choice. And the pirate on your ship with the head flying off just looks completely odd. I think you should just leave the red plate on him and leave his head on. You might also replace the lined-paper sails with unlined ones. I like the exploding wall, and I also like the yellow house. I don't think it looks out of place at all. Actually, without that yellow house, it would look too much like a regular castle scene. In fact, I think a little more color on the wall of the fort would be good. Finally, we need some more pictures of the ship! It's hard to tell what she looks like... Overall, nice entry that can be made a little better with some simple improvements...
  18. I think part of the problem is that our memories are tinted with nostalgia. We like the BSB and SES because we grew up with them... Looking at the new Pirate ship for the 2009 line, whilst I don't think it's in the same league as the BSB, I do think it's a step in the right direction. With some proper rigging and a few modifications it looks like the new ship could me make to look almost as good as the BSB. If the Pirate line continues, perhaps we will get an even better ship the following year.
  19. Wow, I like this! Where are those leaves from? I've not seen them before....Nice use of the Dinosaur tail for the tree, as well. I'm not sure on the use of white for the sand, though...call me old fashioned but to me, in LEGO world, sand is yellow and snow is white....Maybe tan would look better than white? Can't wait to see the large entry, either...looks fantastic so far...
  20. Oh yes! I like this updated version very much! Now it seems like a coherent scene! Your little canopy is brilliant..My only suggestion would be to use red curved slopes instead of the red technic wing pieces...but that may be a limitation of your collection...
  21. The new "Big" ship still looks weird...There's no rigging/mast in the back like all the other pirate ships. It looks kind of naked. But that's a pretty easy fixed....I guess Lego is trying to get away from string. You can see the sails are now mounted the same as they are in the Viking long boat. She still looks like a nice ship....certainly not a BSB or SES, but better than the RBR. I wonder what her name is... Sadly I think I might buy ALL of these sets! (sadly for my wallet, that is) I'm actually glad it's not...For too long Lego seemed focused on Humans vs. Mythical monsters...look at the Viking Line...This seems like more of a return to focusing on "realism," so-to-speak. More focus on the human factions...
  22. Impulse sets look great...too bad I can never find impulse sets in the stores.. :(
  23. I actually think it has a rather elegant design...for a Time Machine, that is! Certainly it looks the best out of all the vehicles in the Time Cruiser line. As for no middle hull pieces, it seems to me you could still make a small boat out of it..I've been thinking about doing just that as it is the only other set of hull pieces I have (the other ones are in the BSB and I'm certainly not taking that apart!)
  24. The new addition of the other brick-built birds complete this entry. I think this may be one of the prize contenders for sure! I can't think of any improvements you could make now...it's perfect!
  25. By that mode of thinking, the RC system is the most realistic, as the source of the locomotive's power is contained in the locomotive itself (no external power source), and you control the locomotive directly, rather than simply altering current in the rails.
