I was saying another thing: I was talking about playing with them. You are considering only the way the set looks. I have all of the regular edition "medium" Bionicle sets excluding the Toa Mata and I own four versions of Tahu and five of Lewa (Nuva,Phantoka, Mistika, Master and Uniter) but I stopped playing with my sets years ago. Now I only put them only my shelf. I don't know if you were indirectly answering to me, but it depends a lot on what type of line we are talking about. Some franchises have many collectors (nostalgia reasons or simply to collect them) that I don't think Bionicle has. Also, perhaps I don't remember, when I was a kid, me or my friends having many versions of the same characters. Anyway, my point is that with support coming from other media (TV show, more online content for example) a serie has more chances to survive while being repetitive (the power rangers that you were talking about). Unfortunately, the BIonicle TV show is going to be more like a serie of special episodes rather than a long show.

It is boring from two points of view as a toy line (only): - if you follow the story you always read about the same characters (because after all the story is mainly about them); - this is mainly for kids (after all the theme became simpler for them), but if you are playing with your Bionicle sets as action figures, is it really fun to play with many versions of the same character? When I was still a kid, I came up with a plot about substitute souls for the last point, but that's basically adding new characters. Of course if you (not you Lyichir, I am talking in general) don't care about the story, but only about the sets, this point is irrevelant, but so it is the discussion. That's your opinion, because I don't think there is an objective way to know that with the Nuva again the following years would have been better. The fact that heroes sell better may be true (I wrote it too some pages ago), but wasn't my point: I said that I wouldn't like to see a new wave of the same heroes if 2017 is the final year (personal opinion from a story point of view). However the first generation of Bionicle had a more developed story too and that helped introducing, as Toa, characters that in fact had already been introduced in the first years. At the moment apart from the Toa,we haven't much about the secondary characters. Also, I have never said it is going to end next year. Actually, I don't think so. However since that was the original idea and I don't think we have had any news about it so far, I added that possibility. Honestly if Hero Factory was selling as LEGO wanted, it would be still there. I am not saying it was cancelled because of the reused characters only, but it could be one of the reasons. I didn't really care about Hero Factory that much, but wasn't the basic plot very repetitive? As toy line based on a TV show, the fact of using the same characters may not be as bad at all. I guess that helps to develop more the characters and to get more attached to them. That, seeing the numer of views on youtube for example, could have helped the Hero Factory formula last longer. If Bionicle was getting a higher number of episodes, I would see a stronger possibility of surving longer with the same characters.

The thing is that I don't see a new group of heroes coming next year. Unless they have already decided from more years, another wave of heroes would mean getting the Toa Mata/Nuva once again in only three years. With 2017 as the final year, I'd like to have villans in winter and then only a few big sets in summer.

Personally I don't think we are going to get more elemental beasts. Also didn't we have less than six blended masks last year too? I am afraid we going to get another wave of heroes which seems unnecessary at this point. However, If 2017 is the last year for Bionicle, I'd like to see mixed waves (like in 2008) with villains with a name.

Personally I don't like the animation style. It reminds me of the Piraka animations. Still I'd like to see a whole scene before writing a final opinion.

Yeah, thinking about it again, they are almost even. I guess the difference appears to be greater because we haven't seen many villains with an actual personality (I haven't read the books or comics though). From my point of view the only ones worthy of that title are Kulta and Umarak so far. Also, the summer wave seems to have only beasts apart from Umarak 2.0. I think we will get Makuta next year, but seeing that they are following the same spirit of 01-03, I am expecting his servants rather than actual team of good (story-wise) villains.

I think it has been mentioned before, but aren't they producing more heroes than villains because they sell better?

I've bought Kopaka (and Melum) today (first 2016 set for me). I actually enjoyed building it more than all the previous Bionicle Gen 2 sets. Overall it is a good set, but the armour piece used for the arms is too big and the dark blue colour feels out of place. Together with Melum, it looks better, but of course it limits the movement. I really like all the new "Bionicle" pieces. These are my first impressions.

I don't know which is your country, but as it was posted by TFGuy89 some pages ago in some parts of the world (Australia for example) they are delayed until March. However if you are European, from what I have seen so far, they should come out soon (January). Here in Italy, I haven't seen them in stores yet through.

Old Bionicle sets: To open or not to open
Strakk replied to Aethersprite's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Well, unless you want to sell it, open it. If you tell us the name of the set, we could tell you if it is worth opening it. -
Yeah, probably they are infected masks. I hope we get some more pictures soon.

Personally I think the layout works if you have a tablet or a smartphone, but if you are visiting the website with a normal computer you notice it can be improved. For example they should shrink most of the images which are unnecessarily big. Also I'd add a summary of the story in the home page.

I meant that if you clicked in the "Themes" section the "BIONICLE" logo with the MoCr appeared. Nevermind, now the sets are available for most of the countries (excluding Germany and Spain).

Well, it happened with "The Lego Movie" which came out quite late in Germany. I don't get why but it wouldn't be the first time. Also if you change the region in the "themes" page, Bionicle appears (even if there is no page yet) for most of the European countries. However it doesn't for Spain and Germany. It may be a matter of hours though.

Actually in the Italian version of lego.com\bionicle, they call her "Maestra", so I guess the title written in the catalogue was simply wrong. I'd have chosen "Padrone" that basically means "Lord". Thanks for the pictures and for the review! At first I didn't like Gali that much, but now I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy the set. The mask is okay, but I would have liked it to be more similar to the original one.

The 3.0 heroes don't look bad but, as I said for the 2.0, the armour makes them look too heavy. I personally prefer thiner armour. And most of the helmets aren't as cool as on the box pictures. The creatures have a good design but some part of them (Scorpion's body and NN's legs for example) don't convince me. Wasp sadly looks like a Mega Blocks's set. Really disapponted about this set. Rocka XL is great but the connection between body and legs might be a bit weak. Finally Witch Doctor. I am going to buy this set because I like the sets with titans but what is its price? I read 29.99 $ in the picture but considering the amount of pieces, I'd say 39.99 $... The best Hero Factory wave of sets. I hope the creatures are going to sell well because I'd like to see a giant creature set soon. :D
-
I have to say that the new villans are the best HF villans I have seen so far. I'm interested in Witch Doctor. I hope they'll fix him a bit because I might really get him as my first HF set. Scorpio looks cool too. The other villans are ok but I'll wait Toy Fair before saying more. The heroes are basically clones of the previous lines. Yes, there are some new pieces but that doesn't change the building much.
-
The pics in the first page have bits of description of the sets. They are in Italian (my language). I hope no one has translated them yet anyways... Heroes ^The sentence is not completely shownVillans
-
Yeah, that's what I was saying.

Two series almost identical at the same time? That'd make both fail or one of them at least would be cancelled (remember Exo-force ? ). Bionicle had horrible results in my country in 2009 and from what I have heard it didn't sell so much in the other parts of the world either. So I don't think it'll ever come back.
-
That's why I said might. Lego sometimes returns back to its old themes but I also think Bionicle won't come back .
-
BIONICLE might return only if HF does really bad. Without the support of the sets the story developed a little but it wasn't planned at all. That's why I'm not interested anymore in it. The Bionicle story was great because it was planned years before (for the sets) and it made sense. Now that is all invented at the last moment it can be greatly written but it isn't the same thing. So I agree that the story isn't very interesting anymore. I am still going to buy the graphic novels though because I will support Bionicle until the end.

I used Nero Vision 4. I wanted to use in some parts "fade" too but there wasn't in the list... I put some "light" transitions and some "negative" ones. Next time I might use both of them (Nero Vision and Moviemaker). Thanks for your comment!

Even if I'm not a big AC/DC fan but I wanted to do this to say goodbye to Bionicle. :) It's my first AMV ever but please comment even if you think it sucks. It may help me the next time.

1) Not true. I'd never say that. 2006 was the best year in my opinion. 2) Absolutely not but we're talking about a new theme which it's starting this year. And I don't hate completely these sets but they haven't got good innovative buildings as I'd expect from a new theme. I was expecting a great villan but Von Nebula's design is horrible in my opinion. Also the helmet used (Hydraxon's mask) does not fit well in the set as others. The little sets have great weapons, bad helmets and a (too) big chest armour. The mid-size villan have a nice design but I don't like the too many reused pieces. Again, for a new theme I was expecting at least one new basic piece (not helmet and weapons) for the villans. Most of the colour scheme are great though.
