early access to limited item is appealing to early adopters. look at sdcc azog. $1500 ebay. also, once sold out, 41999 will climb over $400 sealed. so hold on to your pants for more ridiculous prices in a year.

Three sellers on eBay already have them on hand. And I understand $200 premium to have item before release date. Nevertheless, it is absurd

I am confused as to the release date of the model. I have seen that it is August 1st. A seller on ebay posted one for sale with pictures of the receipt. Apparently it was purchased on 7/26/13 at local store. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Early-Release-Lego-Technic-Set-41999-Boss-4X4-Limited-Edition-Run-Of-20000-/221259729447?pt=Building_Toys_US&hash=item33841b8a27

Another option is 8070. Yesterday I got lucky and picked it up for msrp -
My fiance loves my hobbies. I been down much darker paths than LEGO (I look at you Warhammer 40k). But if I was in your situation, I might have built a little diorama of a place where you proposed. Get her on a date night after that. That way she would be surprised by the art form you chose and realise that even in your hobbies she is still very important to you.

dr_spock, so far I have no specific ideas of the items I wan to build, but definitely vehicles (offroad, heavy duty, maybe military). DLuders, I found 8110 to be still available at the USA lego store http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Mercedes-Benz-Unimog-U-400-8110. I always follow instructions, at least first time. Then next day whole set gets disassembled and instructions go into trash, figuratively speaking.

TinkerBrick, I am liking 42008 a lot, but I am limited by the budget, so it is very likely that I can get one big set this year but wait til next for more. And since it is possible that 8110 will be stopped this year, I should maybe get it and then get 42008 next year. rm8, I am planning to create an ultimate machine and take over the world ... But until then, I would like to start working on technic-themed land vehicles.

Hey everyone, I decided to start off in Technic and did some research to come up with the kits I like. So far I am looking at 8110, 9397, 42008, and 42009. 8110 and 42009 have good parts amount for the $$$, but to me they seem limited to the models they represent (not much MOC value?). 8110 is licensed and might be stopped soon, so maybe that's another reason to get it. 9397 and 42008 come with PF and better variety of external parts than the above two. Also I can add another kit to equal the price of the more expensive sets. I would like to get feedback on which set would be a good value to start Technic and head out in MOC direction. Thanks.

Hi everyone! Making my comeback to Lego. I preferred lego systems, and after a decade of dark age, looks like the above is still true. My hobbies include, but are not limited to: warhammer 40k (not video game), video games, and cars (tinkering and driving). Looks like i will be adding lego to that list :). I found that scifi theme has least limitations for my imagination so I am planning to start there. Living ten minutes away from toys r us and lego store might ensure my addiction to this plastic crack (warhammer 40k is another one).
