How do you define canon? I am not saying they aren't canon, but I thought GregF said they won't be doing flashbacks or alternate universes and such, and for sure, I don't recall Takanuva ever using swords. :shrugs:
Then I would suggest the story might be going in a direction you don't expect. Just because it doesn't fit into what you think the story is, doesn't mean it's impossible for it to do so. Taking a story 90 degrees to the left (or right, or up or down) is always part of storytelling.
Personally I define canon as "that which is in the sets and in the published storyline from LEGO." Others have a more... liberal and selective approach. Whatever works for everyone. I've had endless grief over trying to say something is canon but people don't agree. So I find it best to let everyone decide for themselves.
