  1. A MOC from me after a very loooong pause from building :) A few more pics at MOCpages
  2. I also bought this set 1-2 months ago and to be honest I was also a bit disappointed with it. First - I thought that the hull was extremely wide and the ship too long. That may seem strange - being disappointed for getting more, but for some reason the hugeness was a bit of a turnoff. It was out of proportion with any other castle set - I don't think a ship should be as long or as high as a castle (I have King's Castle Siege). Second - and this is a function of it's hugeness - it lacked the usual detail of LEGO sets. And third - the price - I paid for it more than for King's Castle Siege, which has twice the number of pieces and roughly the same number of minifigs, and it also has a dragon. Lastly - I don't think the main point of this set - the hull pieces have any other use than building exactly this type of ship.
  3. Up to around 1000 (the most I've ever had in a set) I don't see a problem if they are unsorted. I can see however how some of the huge sets would be a nightmare without being sorted (are they?).
  4. Yep, newer pictures look better, but still strike me as <insert that tiresome argument>. I'd prolly get 1,2 sets because of the monsters, they seem like the can be used in fantasy MOCs as stone golems :)
  5. Can I has LEGO set, plz, thx :)
  6. Oh, I have all my parts stacked. It's a lot more convenient when searching and also it takes a lot less space. Do you mean to tell me I'm ruining them? As for stacking 2x2 and larger: I use this technique. It's very easy to take apart and it only uses a bit more room.
  7. I've had problems with my 1x1 headlight bricks. You can look at this topic. I believe that smaller bricks are more susceptible to cracking than larger ones. Also, there seem to be batches of lower quality bricks that crack more easily. As you pointed out, storing them locked does not stress them more than using them in a model. So I don't think it's wrong. And I think it's a lot more convenient (well, depending on the type and number of the bricks from a specific type of course).
  8. It's not a problem if LEGO juniorize one of their lines, I just hope it's not a trend :) I don't think the green is problem par se. More like it makes me cringe when put next to that bright red. And even the small amount of bright blue on the minifig's helm makes things worse. Otherwise, the models may be good (must see better photos), but I think they screwed up the colors. Hope that these are preliminary and that LEGO read these forums :)
  9. There is 7093 review. Right here ! :)
  10. Great job , this is very useful, it would be good if this is made sticky or something ...
  11. I'm not sure if it goes in this forum, but here it is: More pictures at MOCPages
  12. I just came across a posting in LUG, where the headlight brick was claimed to be among the details susceptible to cracking. However, they state that the front cracks. And what do you know - upon inspection, almost ALL of my white and bley headlight bricks have a crack in the front ... !!! I hadn't looked at the front before. It's not all the way through and they still have clasping power. I checked the Y-Wing part list and it turns out that nearly all my bley and white headlight bricks are from it. None of my other color bricks have that issue, even though they are probably a bit newer, but not by much (3-4 months at most). So, let's hope this has been a temporary quality issue and is cleared out in newer sets ...
  13. Yep , I have that set and the bricks might as well be exactly from it, though I can't be sure since they are mixed with bricks from other sets. The three problem bricks were white. There was also a bley one which looked a bit suspicious. So, is there some information about quality problems limited to that set only or is it something more general... ?
  14. So , the other day I was browsing through my inventory when all of a sudden I noticed that one of the headlight bricks had a crack in the back (on the lower beam). It's more easily visible when the brick is locked. Is this normal, I'm kind of worried, I thought LEGO had a really high quality. On closer inspection of all bricks I found a few more which had started to crack, but were not split all the way yet - a small crack at the base which is almost invisible when the brick is not locked. All my bricks are new (less than a year) and have not been subject to any great stress (or have they?). I keep them locked to one another for easier storage and retrieval - but I don't think that can damage them - after all its equivalent to them being locked in a model, right? Has anyone had a similar experience?
  15. This was my first Exo Force set and I was quite skeptical towards the mecha theme, so I got it because it seemed to have nice parts. It turned out however that the mechas are quite nice :) I really like the poseability of it and since then I got another EF set.
  16. Good review. I got 2 of those. Wheels are very useful, especially if you don't have any :) As for shields - I don't imagine trolls use them too much. I think that they fight berserk style - all out assault. One complaint is the piece that the wheels are attached to - its a single piece, with smaller than the standard pin connection. So you cant change the width of the cart for your MOCs using the wheels. I don't know if a piece with such a connection only on one side exists though ....
  17. Great job. I like the dilapidated, grungy look. And the poor crownies king - relegated to snack seller ... :)
  18. Can I win ??? ... , plz , thx :)
  19. It's simple but very nice, good job. You seem to lack enough white round bricks for the column though, don't you :) The fig on the top is a bit like Antonio Banderas in Desperado ;)
  20. Hmmm, my dark era was quite long too, but prior to entering it I was playing with clone brands which only now I can evaluate as 100% stolen from LEGO. Anyway, if memory serves me correct the last theme I was interested then was castle. Since I started my interest in LEGO I have evaluated a lot of the older sets and I can really agree with the majority who think KK ware bad series. It's over now and I like the new castle sets, but KK still has some implications - namely that if you want to buy a vintage castle set you'll have to settle for something that is around 10 or more years older, which makes it scarcer and consequently - more expensive.
  21. Hey, good review and good photos. I also got this set just recently, and I wasn't very enthusiastic about it at the beginning, but after I built it I could appreciate it. The siege engine is very nice, but my complaint has do with the proportions of the knight's tower in respect to the trolls' machine - it's a bit smaller, and less bulkier. That complaint has to go with some other sets too. For example the troll warship is really humongous - it feels like it can load the evil wizard's tower and sail off. Other than that - a good set, I like it, 4/5 from me.
  22. Dragonator, your views certainly are interesting. And actually what I've written is just an excerpt from a book written by royal scholars. But they might be wrong in their views due to lack of knowledge of the long lost era of Dragon Civilization. And as an interesting twist they might discover some knowledge about it. The idea of another race which the dragons befriended before the appearance of humans is also very nice. You have to think of a name for them though. And some minifig style for representing them :)
  23. Hello Dragonator. I didn't even know that there exists such a big fan of dragons prior to writing this, so now my work is subject to unexpected scrutiny by an expert on dragons:) Keep in mind that this is mostly impulsively written material and that's why it may not fit well with some fantasy mythos or may even contain blatant mistakes. As to the chaotic nature of dragons I meant two things. First - the dragons that are not bonded to humans are prone to sudden changes of their desires and plans. They live alone and have no one to take into their accounts, whereas the dragons that are bonded have overcome this facet of their character and can live in order and respect it. Second - they are chaotic in the DnD sense - they do not desire order and organized society, and in fact they even hate them, which is the reason why sometimes they enjoy attacking the well organized society of humans. The trolls, being not so well organized are almost safe from such an attack. By the way, I would recommend to you one of the games that explores the interaction between humans and dragons. I'd say it was the main inspiration for my version of the human-dragon relationship - it's called "Drakan - Order of the Flame". Maybe you know it, but if you don't, try it, I think you'll enjoy it.
  24. Thanks, I'm glad you like it. I myself am a sucker for such snippets of information that build the background of some fantasy world - like books of concept art and explanations. I remember reading that LEGO did not want to create too much background story to go with the castle theme, so that more is left to the fantasy of its fans. Me, being a fan decided to add a bit, though I couldn't find almost anything to ensure continuity between their story and mine :) I know there is a map, however I couldn't find it, if anyone could point out a link, that would be useful ... Unfortunately I don't have a black dragon. I have a big troll though, so I might make something about him.
  25. The Royal Archives - Dragon Riders The idea behind this is to build on the world of LEGO Castle and also experiment with this form of presentation. This one is not a MOC, though the same can be done for MOCs. That's all for now, I hope you enjoy this, and if so I might make more ...
