  1. City City, you take time

  2. yeah, I really was iffy on building the church (initially was just going to build a small barracks, but thought it was too boring). The size constraints made me really think twice, but then I just figured it as a challenge and decided it could be a stylized church to fit the street (its sort of stylized anyway, with back opened buildings right?...right?) I also wasn't sure where to place it, and changed it myself, so I'm perfectly ok if someone wants to move the whole thing (unless that goes against the rules ). or just turn it 90 degrees, make that perpendicular street. Sorry if I unbalanced the artistic flow, hope it still works out
  3. Hope everyone likes the church Just sent Brickdoctor my turn. This street is looking great! Anyone planning on the other side of the street? Edit: maybe I am
  4. I think the city street would be a great idea, as would a medieval town. I for one would love to be the compiler for the project. I've had as much as 50,000 pieces run in one model, but I can reasonably get 40,000 pieces of a complex model to run in LDD. (don't ask me to do rotations though. those are always a pain in large models) I think the best would be that we come up with a layout for the street/city and then people sign up for what they want to build and where. We can vote or have a draw for who gets the position. So say the corner building has 3 people who want to build: a cafe, a bank, and apartments. If the street has yet to have a bank, that wins. Or the layout could have pre-assigned buildings at specific locations. Or just have anyone build anything anywhere What I'd really love to see is a community build modular space station. Something like a realistic, circular spinning station for gravitation, with modular pods for different rooms, mini-fig scale. Someone would have to design the overall structure, and have a set way for the pods to connect, but then each pod could be designed by different people. There could even be special sections for people to design, like the central spire, communications module, etc. As an added bonus, it could be designed two-fold: as a space station and eventual space ship (aka, has engines, helm, etc). If the design would be realistic enough, it could be even more appealing to TLG also. (especially with the whole NASA license now) (Then again, I'd love to see a pod as a space cafe with giant neon signs on the outside ) Either way, I offer my computer up as a sacrifice for the use of commissioned LDD community needs!
  5. Thanks everyone! brings a tear to my eye Really makes me want to build more and more! I can see how this gets addicting. If only I had the money to build it in real life, poop. Unfortunately, even though I did some color matching, efficiency searches, and strength improvements, I didn't have time to make sure all the pieces were available in real life. For the most part I tried to keep them in colors I knew the pieces existed, but if I needed a big piece or I just didn't know, I dared and placed the pieces. I'll probably go through LDD manager to fix that eventually. I did have a bit too much free time, but surprisingly to me it didn't take that long. I've only ever built one other serious MOC (other than beginner kid stuff) and that is my city, so I didn't have any idea how long building MOCs could take. Whenever I heard how long people took to build theirs (especially for contests) my jaw dropped. It always seemed impossible to build anything that fast. So I'm glad this only took 2 weeks (though I admit some days I had worked on it waaaay too many hours). Oh, and that brick that was removed is the hinge for the road. I have no idea why, as it should fit perfectly, the other side sits fine, and after replacing it the piece stays. If just looking at the model is laggy, you should see what happens when you try and rotate something on it. By the end, some turns crashed LDD. Btw, I also thought that the interior could work as the inside of a large scale spaceship, with the hanger bay, control room, etc. I'm scared to try, but its a fun thought. (never tried to build a ship)
  6. Hello all, Back when the LDD relay builds were going on, I had an idea for the second relay to turn it into a secret mad scientist's evil lair. Since that didn't work out too well, I decided to take a break from my ridiculously large city project and build my own hidden lair. What started out as a mad scientist's lair turned into a composite of a bunch of my favorite ideas to turn into Lego, all in one secret mountain base. The idea spawned from those old toys that opened up and inside were all the contraptions of the evil leader. I wanted to build a base in the desert within a mountain that could open up, but I wanted it to be a cut-away like so many of my favorite mocs that I've seen. And while the theme may have turned more "military base" than "goofy underground lair", the inside is unfinished and I am thinking of making two different interiors for each. It took me almost 2 weeks and countless hours, but I finally finished the outside. The only part that is not original is the use of barrels for the electric posts (I don't know who made it, as its from a random saved pic of a moc). So here it is: separated in 2 parts: rear cut-away of mountain with removable or swiveling doors: Front of mountain with sliding removable "chunks": Side view of main entrance, hanger entrances, and guard tower: Hangar: hidden lifting cargo elevator for vehicles (functional): The mountain parted out into separate "easy" to build sections: There are dozens more features like: the main cargo elevator, mini security elevator, blast doors, mini doors within blast doors, secret entrances, hanger with landing door and helicopter entrance, 3 hidden long range cannons, hidden turret system, hidden anti-air missile systems, transforming gas station sign, rockets and openings at top of mountain, and more. If you want to see more, go to my bricklink page once its moderated. I included the LDD because it's really hard to see some of the stuff with pictures. I warn, it is 13,000 pieces, so only open it if you have a great computer. That, and if anyone wants they can build it in real life because I just don't have the money or time to build it myself (city project took care of that). Btw, using invert selection, select certain colors, hide, and selecting hidden parts makes for really cool views. Sometimes it looks like those really cool wire-frame computer scenes in movies where they show diagrams of stuff.
  7. Yeah, the new sets are pretty drool. Well, I'm extending it anyway another 10 days to see if we can get more into it, but after that, it is what it is. The new deadline is November 30th.
  8. three more days...hmmm, and we are only at turn 8. Should I extend the deadline, or hope we get a lot of people adding to this? Call out to all your friends! Let them know they can join in the build! Sound the HORNS!!!!
  9. I can fix it there too I already sent it to you. HAHAHAHA! You can't escape me you baseplate you! Oh, sorry. Got a little carried away there.
  10. I suppose it's my job to fix these grouping issues since I am the "moderator" of this topic Here is turn 8, with newly added grouping features!
  11. Holy megabricks, batman! I don't know if anyone else saw this but that is an incredibly terrible bug/error. Or, Calabar, you somehow managed to rotate the baseplate slightly The backyard baseplate is ever so slightly rotated, apparently in 2 directions also. I know this is nit-picky, but after building my city, that slight height variation comes to be your worst enemy. You will notice that all the pieces are slightly higher on the yard, and that's also why the pin won't fit to connect the two. ADHO15, I sent you a fixed version, just because it bugged me sooo much. But if you want to leave it as a part of the "creative process", okie dokie.
  12. Well, I can't say I'm doing THAT much to run it But both of these are turning out really great! Makes me dream of some of the crazy things we could build if we got a lot of people involved. (I'm thinking that amazing "city atop a mars rover", community build style)
  13. Here is turn 7 with the last 2 turns grouped properly. Looking great so far! It's starting to remind me of those toys of mad scientist hide-outs. In fact, it would be really cool if we could turn this into one of those, where some "inconspicuous" object breaks open (hinges) to reveal the mad scientist's super secret laboratory and hide-out. Something like a volcano, mountainside, beachy island, donut shop, missile silo, etc with this inside, or underneath. Just an idea, if anyone wants to start building towards that. I might just use my next turn to start it somewhere down the line
  14. only 3 days in and it already looks amazing! Great job everyone!!!! 12 days left, so lets try and hit that 30 turns mark first!
  15. Don't look to me for tiled floors I butcher them. The one thing I'm truly awful at with houses.
  16. I understand we are supposed to stick to the theme of CC-style, and its a house, but say we want a shop in one floor, can we build towards that? Also, if we lean towards more "stylized" building, or say we want to add a futuristic or western styled flavor to the house, or whatever wacky idea, is that ok? Or say we want a car to have crashed into the side of the building, or even if we wanted to create a scene within the house, say a robbery or family dinner...I'm just throwing ideas out here, since my part is coming soon and I want to know what limits there are to building this
  17. To SpiderSpaceman: Go right ahead! As long as you post before anyone else, your up first For everyone: please make it explicit that you are posting to take the turn so we don't have any confusion.
  18. Welcome to the second ever LEGO Digital Designer Relay Community Build! For this build, there is NO THEME other than becoming some type of art-form by the end. That means anything goes (almost). Please keep it clean. The build will be a first come, first serve. If you want to be the next one up, just post, and whoever posts first, is next. Download the most recent LXF file and get building! Once done, rename it (turn#), link it in a post (zip the LXF, upload it to your file sharing account (ie. Brickshelf, flickr), and link it) and anyone else can grab it next by posting. Some Rules: Each person can add up to 150 parts to the current model. DO NOT delete or edit any existing parts! Please use only parts and colours that are available in real bricks. You must complete your part within one day of your turn beginning. Otherwise the next turn will start. Each person is allowed a max of two turns, non-consecutive. Universe mode is allowed. You must have LDD 4.0 (otherwise pieces won't show up and can be deleted). Once done with your part, make your addition into a group. Hint: To make a group out of only your addition, select all previous groups (ctrl + click) and then click invert selection and then click creates a group from selection (the group button) The topic is closed whenever the following is reached first: a) 15 days Now 25 days (November 30) b) 30 iterations I'll get things started, but this and only this turn can be modified/deleted. Here is a display: turn1. (don't limit to this, go crazy)
  19. I think for the next relay we should try the artzy random build (testing one of the different forms of passing along the model), and the one after that, some fun modular or scenic moc that can use lots of minifigs(using whichever form has worked the best). I for one think that the artzy random build could be started concurrently with the relay CC build now, since it doesn't take much effort to run it. I'd love to moderate it, but unfortunately I know I would not have the free time to be prompt with that. What say you all? anyone willing to moderate this one?
  20. I think this is a great idea! It could possibly spawn one of the greatest creations ever! Though I think there should be two versions, one that has a set object to build and the other, a more art form group build where stuff just gets added and we see the evolution. This is because these are two completely different builds, but they are also two awesome sides to the same great idea of an LDD community build. I'd say the "art" build can start really quickly, and you can have voting on what the set model should be. Also, it would be kind of cool to have second takes, where the first person comes back say, 10 people down the line and adds something once again. Couple of things to think of: taking pictures of every person (step) to see the progress, sort of like a time lapse to see the evolution. piece limit for each round. (doesn't have to be small, but this changes the build a lot) people limit? So that it doesn't become a giant monster of pieces, though I'm unsure of how this would work, or if its even a good idea. round limit? so say, there is a 3000 piece cap, each person gets 100 pieces, that's 30 rounds, people sign up for a round they want to be. is editing allowed? or are previous parts "glued in" color limit? universe mode or not? As for a designated model, I think these would be cool categories to start with: space station castle + grounds + environment city cc house modular space ship (hard, but its been done) robot/mecha monster/creature battle scenes (any era/style) x-large vignette (great for a comedy based build) Sorry for going on so much, but I just love this idea!
  21. I'm starting this topic for any bugs or issues that were in LDD 3 but are fixed in LDD 4.0 I'll start: baseplate height difference fixed. 8x16 baseplates are now the same height as all other baseplates.
  22. The piece count feature also counts the pieces you have selected, so if you want to know how many pieces are in a certain section of your model, you can now select it and the piece count will show how many pieces there are.
  23. A few things so far. Firstly, if you enable any of visual features, models you could open before will not open if they are really big (LDD crashes). Also, 4.0 is much more sensitive about the illegal placement of pieces, as models I had built in 3 worked perfectly, and in 4.0 I had 56 pieces removed. Also for large models, trying to "check whether model can be purchased" crashed LDD (but its still a really cool feature). Oh, and is this the right place to mention bug fixes that were in 3? Because one of the most annoying is fixed: The height difference for baseplates is fixed, so the 8x16 is no longer slightly thicker!!
  24. well, I already have a problem I opened one of my bigger models and it removed 56 bricks (placed incorrectly, though they worked in the previous version). Is that the same, or would it have a different sign pop up if the bricks could not be loaded? And is it capable of having 2 signs pop up, one for incorrect placement, the other for pieces not loaded?
  25. That could possibly be the best feature yet! I hope you can get it to work. Otherwise searching through my models manually will be a pain so great I might explode
