  1. Cheers Alasdair, Hopefully get more updates once im back from holiday
  2. Its a basic pedestal marine crane, should be easy enough if you plan it right, i never used LDD with mine just improved as i built, Have a look at this one i looked at while i was building for ideas http://www.texbrick.com/model_marinecrane/
  3. Silly predictive text Mis correcting. Yeah that's my plan once I figure a way to do it. I've cheated and used a roller thrust bearing as it cuts down the friction. But it's hidden from view.
  4. Is it a crawler or telescopic crane you are looking to build? Each have their own pros and cons but as Alisdair has said about the three major problems these seem to be the points that hinder builders. My crawler for example can't lift it's own boom from floor level to an upright position yet and it also can't slew with the ballast carrier I have on at the moment but can without. As for sag that's mostly the telescopic booms con where as a fixed boom is most resistant to it. I've lifted 5.5kg and close radius with mine but others have exceeded that twice over. Here's the link to my build so far http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=92480#entry1827106
  5. Cracking mods nerds. Is there anyway to add gearing to the motor to increase mechanical advantage? On my crawler crane I built. I have a xl motor running my winch via a few pulleys via elastic bands then a 8tooth- 40 tooth gear. I've lifted 5.5kg using this with the same amount of line drops on the hook. My boom head and hook have 16 pulleys on each...... I'm not looking forward to reeving that!
  6. Ok an update to this topic, progress is slow but im at a stage i can display the model enough so here are the most recent images from today, the last image is 1.5kg hanging at 1m radius, hooks been tested to 6kg before it failed
  7. Cheers for the comments, Rishab, its around 1.5 meters so far ground to boom tip, but im planning on going bigger yet still, but the 5L thin liftarms are a rather pricey part.
  8. Ok folk, been working on this for a while now, please excuse the rubbish pics but im sure you get the ideaIve still to get a few power function parts for the base but the upper section is all working and had a lift of 2kg so far but with plans of trying for a bit moreOne thing im strugging with is, the two main winches in the body are run off the same motor and have to wind/unwind at the same speed but im strugging to get the string to wind nicely on the spool, anyone any ideas?Ok this is a 1:50th model of the real machine im working from
  9. Looks great, There seems to be a fascination with Liebherr cranes on the forum here, Im currenlty building a LR1600 at 1:37 scale, so hoping to have 4m of boom on it. But i think that Huib van der hart's LTM 11200 is collosal, well done for such an undertaking
  10. Ok im currently building a copy of the Liebherr 1600 in Mammoet colours and 1:37 scale, not ive got the main body done and also the crawlers but im struggling to get the operators cab done without it looking to boxy So this is what ive got so far and im stuck on ideas to curve it up a bit And im aiming for something like this, parts wise i dont mind buying so the skys the limit
  11. Yeah here you are http://www.flickr.com/photos/rynning/sets/72157626708902819/detail/
  12. Cheers Alasdair, now that youve said that ican see it, any idea on the size of them? bricklink doesnt say The only thing with using the 36 tooth is i lose the width of the drum, its only 6 studs wide and i need a lot of string on it
  13. Ok Quick question for you guys, im needing a make some winch drums for my crane, now the 3x3 discs are to small and the large 40 tooth gears to big, so can anyone else give me any ideas? do you get any other sizes of discs that can be used? Or know what ones these are?
  14. Any other images Alasdair? might be handy if i can get it to work
  15. Evening folk, im looking for some help with a turntable design for my crane I'll start from my last crane which just used plates with the smooth plates on top to give it something to slide on, but creates the problem of sticking when slewing with a load, so im re-designing is to include a roller bearing of some sort and also a way to hold it together if you follow me. Im using the old studded turntable but im willing to buy new parts to make other ways work, it needs to be 14 studs or smaller as thats the maximum size im using what i have so far but everything is able to change
  16. Bit of an update to this model now, Ive added a few motors to make her fully powered 2xl motors for tracks 1xl running via gearbox for selection of each winch 1 med for slewing Ive also upped the lift weight so far to 3kg which for a boom only really held with string cant be bad. Now also running a 4 parted hook i would have liked 8 parting but its got 10 meters of string on it so far for 4!! Ive also bought a 8053 mobile crane so you can see for the size comparison So on with the images please excuse them in not to hot at the photos
  17. Well further to add to this, i pulled out the multimeter to check the voltage, so got just over 9v on the blue channel both sides ok, red channel i got just over 9v on one side but .82v on the other. Unscrewed the bottom to check in there and hey presto it works, but if you screw the bottom back on it stops working again lol
  18. Hi folk, recently got a second hand set of power functions parts but seem to be having a problem with the red channel, There is fresh batteries in both, motors work fine, and when you push the red channel stick both the control and receiver lights blink green but no movement from the motors Any ideas
  19. Heres my tow bits worth for the thread, my first real MOC so please be gentle, Liebherr LR1300 with derrick and ballast wagon
  20. This looks fantastic mate, keep up the good work
  21. Evening again guys, after some of you asking what weight could be lifted with this boom without glue With the weights on the ballast wagon it lifted my 1.4kg cordless driver, which isnt bad for only 500g of ballast, with a few more partings on the hook that may also up the lift weight So some images or it never happened lol you can see the 3 axles at the top for each of the winch drums the sprung loaded drums the heavy lift the proof
  22. Hey thanks for the replys folk. regarding the amount of weight the boom can lift isn't something I have tried yet. I didn't want to go down the road of gluing them together but I have thought of it. at the moment it's just tied together with thickish string. Regarding the size of it at the moment from floor to the top of the boom is about 1.7m. but it could go bigger as the real crane with the rear derrick can go to over the 100m mark depending on other aspects
  23. Hi Guys, i thought i would show some of the progress i've made on my first real proper MOC, now please excuse some of the images as my camera battery was dead so ive got them as best as i could.. Ive tried to keep this to scale for the minifigs, but with the full size boom in 1/40th scale at almost 2.5m long without a luffing jib i just dont have the space or the funds just now. This must be the 3rd edition of this crane ive tried and settled on that im happy with, im still waiting on some parts to replace some temp pieces and more counterweights (4 of at 250g each) Unfortunately this is not motorized on any aspect just yet, but i have looked into it for the future, so all the winch drums are sprung loaded so you have to push them in to unwind/wind. I will add more decent images once i find the battery charger so please bear with them First few images are the 2nd evo of the model
  24. Yes that what i was hoping, im sure it would be strong enough for what i need. just need to work out how it goes together now
