  1. Hi guys Without a doubt since 2005, Lego brand new City is without a doubt a true upgrade to Town with more detail design for both vehicles, mini-figures and most of all the building yet some noticeable flaws still remain. What I don't get is the lack of non-emergency buildings and road as part of the play-set that you would get in most town building set?. Having a connection of road is what make Lego City a true city yet it seem like design is ever so lacking. Better Lego yet worst design team? It seem in this day and age, creators seem to be less creative and imaginative then in the 80's and 90's, or is it just me? Why don't TLG not re-created all of those Town sets such as Airport, Villa, etc... and update it to fit in with the modern City theme? This would require less development and increase in sale. It just seem silly to have all these cool design wasted. I'm sure many of you guys (including myself) would love to have that old town Police Station in new bricks mold to fit with City, am I right?
  2. Don't get me wrong I love Lego and I think it the greatest toys ever created. I also don't believe any toys now or in the near future will have its own theme park either. Personally for me, I disregard the piece count because I do not do any modular build so for me it how big the set is. Even if they use a few big pieces versus more small pieces, in the end what count for me is how big the set is. For $130, Helm Deep regardless of cents per brick is not that much bigger than King Castle which retail at $100. From that perspective I feel it could be a bit bigger. I know I'm the minority here and most of you guys are AFOL, so these set are likely to be put on display but for me at least without more Helm Deep set is just not good enough for a huge battle scene.
  3. Your kid is YMMV, I like that very much, quite funny too. You have a sense of humor! So I guess my question to you is this, why don't you have the Death Star? I'm sure you have tons of other Lego set that together would equal or exceed the $400 price point if I'm not wrong?
  4. Thanks for the comment. However in the long run it would cost you more money and you don't really have a main theme, am I right? I don't see how reenacting star wars scene not get boring after a while? Do you have the Death Star and if so how would you rate it from an adult point of view?
  5. This is exactly what I'm saying. I don't expect Helm Deep to be a UCS but it no bigger than any other Lego castle ever produced without the Urk Hai army wall. I didn't think off combining 2 Helm Deep to make one bigger. I could have gotten 2 more for $140 combine. I think I will do that to make it a even bigger Helm Deep. Thanks for the advice. Would have prefer Helm Deep to look like this....http://www.geekosystem.com/lego-helms-deep/#3 Easily $700 for me. Of course that would be my dream Helm Deep but I though For $130 (retail price, not what I pay for) it would be at least a significantly bigger than a $100 dollars King castle.
  6. Do you regret getting the other sets?
  7. I love LOTR, and I have watched all three movies over and over again countless time yet LOTR is my least favorite Lego theme ever. First off, Lego Helm Deep was my first Lego set ever and I was more than disappointed. Helm deep was extremely small and narrow. First of, the main gate should be at least 2 story high like in the movie. If it was one story why would the Urk Hai even need ladder? Before I go any further, Lego box had false advertisement showing that the throne room was taller than the main gate which was not true at all. Another thing was the catwalk or walkway was extremely narrow 3 x 3 stud instead of at least 6 x 6 stud so very few minifigs could be station up there. While LOTR Helm Deep is a nice looking set it doesn't offer any real play-ability but more as a collector items and as a model. There are no base-pate and the bridge connecting the main gate to the throne room does not stay connect, which is really a flaw and a bit lazy design for Lego standard. Helm Deep is also extremely overprice. Maybe it just me but almost every LOTR sets are more like model than play-ability. Am I the only one disappointed with this Lego theme?
  8. Hi guys If you had to choose one Lego set with the most play-ability, which one would you choose? I ask this because I wonder would a child have more play-ability with the Death Star vs multiple other sets that would equal to the same price? On that same note, price wise would the death star be a better deal then having a bundle of the following set: City: police station, forest police station, city garage, & creator hillside house & lighthouse island? They both come out to be similar price. Scenario #2 Same price of $400 Lego Star Wars Death Star (24 minifigs) vs Lego Friends summer riding camp, Olivia's house, Heartlake stables, Heartlake vet, city park cafe, adventure camper, Emma's horse trailer, Butterfly beauty shop, Olivia's tree house & Andrea's Stage (20 minifigs)? If it was for your child (girl or boy), which option would you choose, and if you can give your reasoning. Thanks!
  9. Thanks for all the reply guys. I think I will stick to just getting one of each since money is real tight right now and there just too many cool sets to collect.
  10. Rick Thanks for the link as I couldn't find any of the creator line review anywhere. I really don't know why we don't have a general review section that list each Lego theme by alphabets? Yes I been reading a lot of the review on here and it really is top notch! I want to say that even though I'm consider an AFOL I am not a modeler and I like to play with my Lego like a kid because I never had a childhood. With that said, how is the apple tree house and the lighthouse island in term of play ability? When I asked if it fit in with Lego City, I did not mean if it fit in modeling wise, but rather if it is Lego mini-figures scale? I ask this because the creator line "dog" is ugly and does not look like a normal "dog". Thanks
  11. I just wish I could see them first hand to know if I want it or not, wish I could see every lego set first hand....who wouldn't?
  12. Hi guys I'm having a bit of dilemma on whether to keep or return both my Lego creator set (lighthouse island & apple tree house). I got it together for a total of $69 US dollars including taxes. On one hand I just don't know how well Lego creator houses fit in with Lego City, and is it more for modeling or is it playable? I really like the old Lego creator set as well as Hlllside house because there are lots of room inside for play-ability. However should I return it despite getting it for 27% off and instead get Lego Friends line instead? I never had a building set in my life so I don't know what it would be like. I also want the Lego police station because I didn't have many toys as a kid much less a whole playset, but even at $80 USD it still too expensive despite the 20% off sale. Give me your opinion of what you think of Lego Creator line? Lastly I like the Lego Creator hideside house just like Lego Monster Fighters haunted house because it open up. I like building that is not missing any side or back and yet can be open up for play-ability. None of the friends line does this nor does the modular line since modular line open by removing floors instead of opening up like a book or those old micro machine sets. Thanks
  13. I mean in inches.
  14. Yeah I know about that site but I didn't realize they sell base plate and I don't know how to find it since i'm not familiar with the different bricks.
  15. I'm new to Lego. Where can I find base plate 10 x 10 & 15 X 15 for cheap? Is the Lego store the only place to buy it? Is 1 15 X 15 for $15 worth it or too expensive? Is 1 10 X 10 for $5 expensive? If you had a choice for $15 between the 3 X 10 x 10 inches base plate versus the 1 X 15 X 15 inches plate which one would you get? Lastly I want to know how did you guys get so many base plates? Was it in other Lego sets in the past?
  16. Open it unless you can make a good profit on it. I mean life is short mate, I been in 4 different car accidents, 2 of them I was on my bike. You never know what could happen to you tomorrow.
  17. Going to be a huge spender to make up for loss time. I hate how everything including Lego are more expensive with less and how all the old set are overprice thanks to re-seller. Hell I'll buy it more than it original price back then but not 3X as much.
  18. I went to the store to check out Olivia house since I knew they had a display on and I was shock at how small a 2 story building is. As you probably know I'm new to Lego so it hard for me to tell how big these set are from just their picture. I was expecting at least 10 inches (25.3 cm) and it was only 19cm tall. On the same note I saw Jabba Palace on display and boy was I wrong about the size. It was bigger than I thought and around the same size as Olivia house if my memory serve me right. I got the idea that Lego were huge because folks on here been saying they ran out of space to display all of their Lego, but you guys must have tons and tons of Lego!!! Though seriously Lego set are smaller than I thought, definitely will look at dimension before i buy.
  19. I think I'll be avoiding them for now but they certainly look amazing especially the green grocer.
  20. Modular are amazing but do they offer any play ability? Can you take off the whole back wall and if so does it reveal furnish in each room or is it empty? Do you recommend 1 or 2 MMVs since they are going to be discontinue soon? Thanks
  21. Where does one buy Lego polybag?
  22. I'm curious how many of you guys buy multiple same sets for play and not for resale? I was reading on Toys n Brick forum and someone wrote that "everyone and their mother has this set" referring to castle medieval market village that is about to be continue soon, and it got me thinking, how many of you guys own multiple of the same sets and which are they? How many of the market village sets do you guys own? As someone who new to Lego, would really like to know which set is worth owning more than once because all you really need to do is change the brick color and it like a whole new play-set.
  23. That was simply beautiful, bought a tear to my eye.
  24. Hey Folks Lego has always been my favorite toy as a child but unfortunately I was dirt poor so the thought of ever having Lego was not an option. When I finally made money I was in college (2007) so who play Lego in college? Fast-forward now to 5 years later, and my interest in Lego has skyrocketed! Looking through brickset.com I regret not getting Lego earlier. There are so many wonderful set from 2005 to 2010 that I wish I could get my hand on without having to overpay. I think it wasn't until Lego city (2005) that Lego model became so much better and by that time I had lost interest in Lego since I was in high school. While I was growing up, from 1995 to 2004, the Lego model weren't as good as these new one starting in 2005. But the old saying goes "it better late than never" and I guess that ring true for Lego as well. I do find some of the older set are better design and made than the newer set. For example, old harbor vs new harbor, old fire station vs new fire station, old MF vs new MF, and etc... As an adult male, it is odd that I am very interested in the friends theme only because it the only theme right now that contains a lot of building and all of the building have base-plate It is also relatively cheaper than other themes as well. There is just no way I can build a city quick without the friends theme because the only real big play-set for Lego city is the police station. There is also the castle medieval market village which I'm also planning to get as well. I do like many of these new themes with friends being my favorite. I'm not a fan of monster hunter, dino as much because it still missing a few sets that would make it complete. However, as a huge LOTR fans, I'm mighty disappointed with the LOTR line. I feel that while it design look cool it is overall very small, pricey, and doesn't offer much play-ability. For $70 dollars I would have more fun and more play-ability with Olivia's house than Helm Deep. I still don't understand how Weathertop is $60 retail price? It look like $30 at most. The same can be set about the Star Wars Jabba Palace which retail in the U.S at $120 when I wouldn't even buy it if it was for $50. I understand that license theme cost more but not $70 dollars more. I look forward to my new journey through Lego and any advice or suggestion would be appreciated.
