I only bought one in secret and when the delivery came in i took the parcel immediately away because i know my parents forget about it very fast. They don't notice what changes on my shelfes if it isnt a huge set. But now the possibilities are better because in Germany there are so called "Packstation"s where you can fetch the parcel 24/7. So you could let it wait there one or two days and take it home if the time is good. BTW: Some funny ways here to stay under the wife-radar

I got mine when i wanted to register on lego.com wanted to get masterX but no avail. THey suggested masterX244 which i use since then everywhere

My rule of thumb is one year after buing but there are some exceptions. One time it was only a half year(needed some white plates immediately) and some other stays since 4 years (no useful parts to recycle(deconstruct and put into part storage) them for. The 10221 has a remark in my brain for no recycling allowed which means it will stay much longer than the minimal period of time. But it seems that I will run out of space sooner or later (the part storeage and he shelf space)

With the beams I tend to use the technic beams with studs like the ones which are used in the laeger sets. With the pins you can make the beams longer and with the sandwich hint (the beams in the plates) it isnt even visible For better understanding here an example image
