If you are most interested in PAB then I would suggest going to either (or both) of the Westfield Stores - they are both on the central (red) underground line and probably 15 minutes from the centre of London with frequent trains. You may also want to check out John Lewis on Oxford Street - a big department store near Bond Street tube station - again on central line. They have a wall of PAB but last time i was there the selection wasn't great. They also have some huge models - Darth Vader made from Duplo last time i visited. You could probably plan to go to all three stores in a morning if you are not keen to see anything else in those shopping centres.

WHSmiths are offering £5 off a purchase of £15 with a voucher when you buy something - if you hang around the automated tills you can probably pick up a voucher on someone else's receipt. As they currently have the mixels in store at £2.99, you can buy 5 plus a packet of sweets and get them for £10 rather than £15 which is pretty good value for them.

I just had a look at Very.co.uk - a few discounts on Lego but nothing very exciting and don't appear to be close to 20% off. Wasn't sure how the £20/£25 offer worked - didn't see anything on their website. They have a 10% off orders if you take out credit.

BOOK: Brick City by Warren Elsmore
RednWhite replied to Teessider's topic in General LEGO Discussion
i bought this a few weeks ago and the models are great. However, the pictures of the building steps for some of the models are so small as to render them very difficult to follow. There is an exhibition of some of the models at the Arts Depot in north London next week. If this is a touring exhibition, has anyone seen it yet and is it worth a trip? -

+ 1 to Praiter Yed - great trade -
Lovely building - really evocative of an underground station. I have a question - is this based on a real station - there isn't a Lord's Station as far as I am aware - if the reference is to Lord's Cricket Ground then closest tube station is St John's Wood.

Just saw the Toys R us catalogue for Xmas and a £25 spend on Friends gets you a free Lego Friends pencil holder set

I just received an order - Grand Emporium - with free holiday set but no free minifigure. I ordered online but from laptop and not tablet or phone - can they detect these things when ordering?
-
I took the plunge this morning and ordered the Grand Emporium over the Pet Shop and Fire Station - I think my daughters will have just as much fun with it as the Pet Shop. With double points saving me £15 and the free Christmas set thrown in, I almost convinced myself I would be poorer if i didn't buy it!

Is there a special Lego Store app for mobile devices? Or do you mean just ordering online rather than over the phone?

Which modular set? I have been considering getting one of the modular sets for some time but haven't wanted to spend such a large sum on one set. Having seen the new parisian cafe set today I want to use the excuse of Christmas to get my daughters one of the sets. They are 9 and 6 and love Lego - they have a few Lego Friends sets and a few other ones including some of the creator houses. I was thinking of getting the Pet Shop one as I think they would enjoy it and it could fit in with their Friends sets but also it looks like one that may be retired soon. If the set works out then i may get some of the other ones. Would the Pet Shop be the best one to plunge into?

REVIEW: 21018 United Nations Headquarters
RednWhite replied to Clone OPatra's topic in Special LEGO Themes
It looks good but not sure it has the wow factor that other architecture sets have. I really want to dip my toe into the architecture series but so far the sets have been way too expensive for me or an iconic tower but looking like a bit of a dull build. -
Just checked Amazon for some of those Star Wars deals and they seem to have gone - very small discount on Sail Barge....booo!

To bring the thread back to saving money and not worrying about links, as previously mentioned the Smyths website has 20% off until Monday. There are also discounts on individual items with the 20% on top of that. Unfortunately their website doesn't seem to be able to cope with the traffic.

Drilling and gluing Lego plates - Key Holder
RednWhite replied to RednWhite's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Hi Thanks for the suggestions. This is the picture I saw that gave me the original idea. I have the 1 x 4 technic bricks and lots of different plates. I like the idea of using some technic plates and screwing threw the holes into the baseboard. No gluing or drilling is defintely a bonus. I will try and post some pics of the end product. -
I want to make a key holder out of Lego using 1 x 4 technic bricks of various colours to attach the key ring to and a plate on the wall to attach the bricks to. My first thought was to drill through a largish plate and attach it to a flat piece of wood (of the same size) with screws which would then be attached the the wall. I could then place another plate on top of the first one to hide the screw heads and then attach the bricks to that. However I wondered if it would be easier and less messy to simply glue a plate to the wood with strong adhesive and forget the screws. Can anyone let me know what experience they have had of drilling through Lego plates, e.g. what drill bit to use etc. and what sort of glue to use. The glue will have to be strong enough to hold the plate at 90 degrees with various heavy sets of keys hanging from it via bricks.

The Star Wars Character Enyclopedia with free minifig is now £5 in WH Smiths - not sure if all shops or just my local one

Good MOC - interesting idea. I have to say, this is one of my favourite films ever - a great book and a superlative film - not a wasted moment - if anyone out there hasn't seen it then do so now. I would think another good MOC from the film would be Sam Spade's office - big desk and all the accroutements of a private dick's office in the 1930s.

I got the Gold Leader Y wing in Berlin recently for 35 euros - discounted from 50 which is a bargain compared to the UK price. Looking forward to building it with my kids and then hanging the X wing, Y wing and Tie from my study ceiling for full on Star Wars IV action

I had the good fortune to be treated to a long weekend in Berlin at the weekend and took the chance to visit the Lego store there. I picked up the Star Wars gold leader set for 35 euros which is much cheaper than in the UK - selling for £50 in the Lego stores. Anyway, i handed over my VIP card and the chap scanned it but nothing came up on the receipt. Will I get credited with points for my purchase or is it just stuff bought in the UK?

The Lego Store in Westfield Shepherds Bush have some offers at the moment - various LoTR sets are discounted - Orc Forge, Attack on W, etc. The B Wing is also heavily discounted to £119 (i think). The Entertainer has discounts on Chima - 25% off various sets

Hi At the weekend I watched the second prequel film with my kids and then watched the third prequel on my own as it was on. Like many Star Wars fans, I didn't particular like the three prequel films - too much talk about trade agreements, federations, democracy and the republic - I get that when I watch the BBC news - Star Wars should be about escapism. I have a few Star Wars sets - all from the original trilogy. I look at the sets from the prequels but they don't really interest me. I don't recognise the spaceships - they don't seem very inconic compared to the X wing, the MF and the Tie fighter. Anyway, enough rambling, I found myself looking at the Lego sets from episodes 2 and 3 and looking at the Jedi interceptor from the 3rd film and liking the look of the set and thinking about buying it. I'm not sure there is much else in the whole range from the prequel films that interest me but I wondered whether anyone else finds that occasionally their purchases are driven by watching the films?
