This is very interesting and cute. I really like it but I could not see a difference in width. No matter how hard I looked. Then I noticed that it is one stud longer in length. So I am sorry to be some kind of corrector.

The slot is used to detail the second story wall in the Pet Shop. When this type of 1 x 2 brick is used in a modular they do not include plane ones in that color so it can be used as a detail brick or a plain brick. Helps reduce part count by one.

I have found that the AAA battery box and the rechargeable battery run for two hours then turn off. Turn back on and will run another two hours if the batteries do not run down.

The Santa Fe Super Chief Limited Edition had two 1 x 2 tiles with AXXXX numbers printed on them for each set. A few years ago TLG sold numbers A0001 through A0010 of this set on ebay for charity. They made 9,999 sets. Bruce

When I opened mine I discovered that the manuals and sticker sheet were in a plastic bag with cardboard stiffener. So no mangled manuals or sticker sheet. Hope this continues in future sets. -

I was just at the Valley Fair Lego Store in Santa Clara, CA. They put out Series 3 Minifigs just after I got there. They had dumped two boxes in a tray and put them on a shelf. You are limited to 16 figs a day. They are $2.99. -

At the recent Bricks by the Bay Lego Convention in Fremont, CA I got to build this set at the Lego booth. There were two packages with two flanged and one blind driver in red in package #5. Just like the black ones in Emerald Night. The blind drivers are not used in the set. The best part was when I finished I asked the Lego employee what to do with the extra parts and he told me to put them in my pocket. So now I have a pair of blind drivers in red. Bruce I built this set at the Lego Booth this last weekend at the Bricks by the Bay Lego Convention in Fremont, CA. The four wheel front truck pivots as does the four wheel driver assembly. The cow catcher is six studs wide , there is no dark red in the set, and the passenger car windows are regular green. Bruce

Do the Emerald Nights drive wheels continue to turn? I have noticed that the leading and trailing trucks have no vertical movement. So when the track dips slightly, which happens at the beginning of an incline. The trucks lift the drive wheels off the rails enough that they lose traction. Bruce

I powered my Emerald Night with two 9 Volt train motors in the tender. I made the tender longer to fit them both in. I left all the gears out of the engine to reduce friction. It runs fine on BayLTC's layout at the last show after I applied my fix. The fix is discussed here: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?...erald+night+fix Bruce

When a fellow member of BayLTC ran his Emerald Night on the club's layout at a show, it ran fine at first. After maybe 15 minutes it started to move jerky. He asked me to run mine, which was a 9 volt mod, his was the stock PF. After about 20 minutes mine also started to move jerky so I took it off and put it aside until I had some time to examine it. Upon examining it I realized that due to the cylinder only being one stud long the piston was jamming on the forward stroke (piston was being pushed in and upward). So I modified the cylinder, making it two studs long. I ran it at the next train show. It ran smoothly for the whole time I ran it. Another member of BayLTC asked me how I had gotten it to run so smoothly (his was also jerking when run). So I thought it would be a good idea to share my fix with the Lego Train Community. These are the parts you need to add to fix the Emerald Night's jerkiness when running. Different colors shown for contrast. They should all be black. Here they are assembled. You use the two 3-stud long axles and two Black Technic Perpendicular Axle and Pin Connectors from the original assembly. Here is one view of the assembly in the Emerald Night. Here is another view of the assembly in the Emerald Night. Here is another view of the assembly in the Emerald Night.
