Thanks to Rufus (& EB) for doing a wonderful job with the competition, to all the fellow participants, and last but not least the voters :)

Architecture Contest: Old Royal Palace (now Greek Parliament)
Matija replied to Theo's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I think all of us who chose to make models of parliament buildings have more or less the same issue :) -

Ok, you wanted our honest thoughts, so here are mine. First of all - if the model is indeed real, it definitely deserves the first place and prize. However, if it is not, no matter how good it is, it just doesn't deserve it (neither the prize, nor the place!) and should never have been in the voting thread in the first place (pun intended). I do understand that there are concerns, especially since it is getting so many points - these points could have gone to other people whose models DO comply with the rules (assuming that yours is a digital rendering). I have to agree with the others - your pictures do look like very good renderings (and there are many details pointing to that conclusion), and the dark picture didn't really help (on the contrary). If it is not a rendering, it would have been very simple for you to just send a good non-photoshopped picture to Rufus privately, and everything would have been solved nicely and quitely. With such an attitude, no matter what the truth is, I just can't force myself to believe you.

As a matter of fact, I do. And yes, I admit that I bought Friends sets! Yes, plural! :) Just for you, my friend:

Thanks everyone! Indeed, too bad I couldn't get the cats in LBG. There is one type of cat available in LBG, though, but after a bit of thinking I dropped the idea ;) I tried also with flesh/nougat cats, but in the end I thought white ones looked better.

It's Summer time here among people, something GMT likes to ignore every year ;) So yes, it is indeed more than 3 hours left.

Thanks (to everyone)! To answer to your "problems": 1. Initially, I DID want it to be smaller, but the arched panels decided the final size - I really wanted to use them on the main entrance, and I really wanted the main entrance to be as realistic as possible. In the end, I don't think it is too big. It is actually almost the same size as Robie House. 2. As for the usage of headlight bricks, well, two things - the first is that my model was already finished 14.3. (2 weeks before the other one was posted), but I was just too busy to put it here. The second is that, well, in such a scale you really don't have too much to choose from :)

Huh, so many great entries so far! Still, let's give it a shot. Entry name: Stortinget Category: Landmark Series It was dark times in Norway, after centuries of Danish occupation, now being in a union with Sweden, slowly but surely paving its way towards independence. In a design competition for the new parliament building, the winner was a young Swedish (oh, the irony!) architect named Emil Victor Langlet. The building was finished and formally opened in 1866. The two ca...lions guarding the entrance were designed by two convicts serving their sentence at Akershus Fortress. Later, (at least) one of them was pardoned for his contribution to the parliament. Anyway, enough talking, here are some pictures: ...and a few pictures of the original building and the lions (courtesy of Wikimedia):

Worked for me, all you need is patience. Also - one thing I learned from building-mini-modulars-in-bag is that one has to be careful not to destroy the outer bag. Once it starts ripping it's hard to stop it :/

Were you partying with Norwegians again last night? :/

I do, but I don't think you'll like the price :) Still, if you are interested, send me a PM.

MOC: Toyota Hilux, 6th generation
Matija replied to Matija's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Ok, I'm really beginning to mislike BrickShelf. It's the third time today that they've removed the pictures of the original car, even though it's nicely put in the same folder as the LEGO model, and there is a good reason for it. -

If you look at the pictures of the original car, the one the LEGO model is based on, you will understand (it is from New Zealand). Other than that, I don't think there is anything special with that model, but I'm not a car expert either. -
The pipes? You'll never guess - with hinges! :)

A tiny model of the not so tiny ship. 48 x 5 studs. More pictures at MOCpages

Here is my first attempt to make a non-minifig-scale car. With removable canopy! Since the original was green, the model had to be too even though the part selection was quite limited (well, actually it was supposed to be dark green, but that would have been close to impossible to make). GG was released... how many years ago? Prices (as well as salaries) go up, get used to it.

Three new Norwegians (well, now they are!) here too! But what happened to their train?! I assume it sufferred from the almost-daily full halt on the Norwegian train lines as soon as they crossed the border from Sweden, so the poor guys had to hitch-hike to get to their destination. Ah well, we're used to that here. Thanks! ;)

Here is my entry: Ostrich Transport - a small and simple tribute to one of my favourite 2010 sets. I instructed the ostriches to keep their heads within the given dimensions, but they weren't very happy about it!

Ok, so far it was easy, seeing all that's going on inside the bag - that's not fun any more. Yesterday, a group of 12 crazy people in the middle of nowh...Norway went to the next level - most gave up, only the bravest ones made it all the way through.

*VOTE* Tournament of Retribution II *VOTE*
Matija replied to Commodore Hornbricker's topic in Pirate MOCs
Man... it tok a while to read all the entries, congrats to all :) However, one entry stood out in my opinion - Commodore Numbnuts, who gets my five points (cinq points). -
It is possible to apply stickers (depending on the set), check the rest of the thread for pictures.

No place to buy LEGO taxfree, unfortunately. But otherwise it's 25%.
