Well to get back to some more harmless pumpkin stories... A few years back when I lived in rural Canada a doctor moved in up the street (don't think neighborhood ;-) ). He was from Toronto but thought he had a bit of green thumb and decided to join the local tallest sunflower/biggest pumpkin semi-formal competition. A few of us thought his garden was so hilarious that we couldn't resist 'helping' it on a little. Every week we replaced his prize pumpkin with a slightly larger one (he never noticed the stalk wasn't attached) and come halloween he did indeed have an incredibly large jack o lantern and could never figure out why everyone found it so funny... After reading your second post I think we're saying more or less the same thing (dang cultural barriers ;-) ). I was merely laughing at the fact that in your view one holiday was becoming too influenced by religion, and another not enough... X-D God Bless, Nathan

I can't help but notice the contradiction here, maybe it is just in my eyes, Christmas is too commercial/has lost meaning (a meaning which is religious), but 'religious fanaticism' is ruining holidays... Do you want people to care or not? If you care about anything, chances are you are removing yourself from something else.... ;-) Just my 2 cents... God Bless, Nathan

X-D Seriously, I don't think the exact date is that important, establishing it accurately would be well nigh impossible beyond the year (yes I know not the year 0 ;-) ) and as too conflicting religions, I think the name 'christmas' says it all even if the arbitrarily chosen date corresponds with a few native tribal celebrations in North America. I would have to disagree, all though the origins of halloween (in the loosest sense) go back to celtic culture, the actual date used now is a spin off of all saints eve. A superstition that developed (slightly more than a few decades ago ;-) ) evolving from a fear of the night before all saints day. I think the Catholic Church could indirectly claim fatherhood of the modern halloween, ironically ;-) God Bless, Nathan who normally carves a pumpkin or two or three...
