Dang, I can't just leave the back off the model I'm building anyway and enter it into the competition... Fair enough :)
-
Nice prizes indeed! I already have one Town Hall, but if I manage to win another I can try out the alternative building instructions from Brick City Depot. But so now I have one more question: If my model consists of two 16x32 buildings that sit next to one another, can the backs of them have fallen away, as if because of an earthquake? Or maybe even cut away by a wormhole opening in space and time? Or must they be complete in every way?
-
I've an idea for a building that's 16x48. The reason I want it this size is so that it can fit in among the other modular buildings as in the attached picture: Would this be eligible for this competition? What if I make it two models, one 16x32, the other 16x16? Or extend the 16x16 portion to 16x32?

I compared the inventories at the back of the instruction manuals for 10213 and 10231, here are the 276 parts you'll need to acquire if you have the former and would like to build the latter: Item# Qty Colour Item Name 63965 1 Black Bar 6L with Stop Ring 40902 1 Black Hinge Brick 2 x 2 Locking with 2 Fingers Vertical and Axle Hole 41532 1 Black Hinge Cylinder 1 x 3 Locking with 1 Finger and Technic Friction Pin 3024 2 Black Plate 1 x 1 3666 5 Black Plate 1 x 6 3021 4 Black Plate 2 x 3 3795 5 Black Plate 2 x 6 60474 2 Black Plate, Round 4 x 4 with Pin Hole 85984 7 Black Slope 30 1 x 2 x 2/3 4287 2 Black Slope, Inverted 33 3 x 1 40244 2 Black Support 1 x 1 x 5 1/3 Spiral Staircase Axle 3706 2 Black Technic, Axle 6 92907 3 Black Technic, Axle and Pin Connector Perpendicular Split 6636 1 Black Tile 1 x 6 87087 4 Blue Brick, Modified 1 x 1 with Stud on 1 Side 43093 6 Blue Technic, Axle Pin with Friction Ridges Lengthwise 3709b 3 Blue Technic, Plate 2 x 4 with 3 Holes 3009 2 Dark Bluish Gray Brick 1 x 6 3008 2 Dark Bluish Gray Brick 1 x 8 2357 2 Dark Bluish Gray Brick 2 x 2 Corner 4477 8 Dark Bluish Gray Plate 1 x 10 32028 3 Dark Bluish Gray Plate, Modified 1 x 2 with Door Rail 2540 1 Dark Bluish Gray Plate, Modified 1 x 2 with Handle on Side - Type 1 (free ends) 4032b 4 Dark Bluish Gray Plate, Round 2 x 2 with Axle Hole (New Style '+' Opening with X) 30565 4 Dark Bluish Gray Plate, Round Corner 4 x 4 2743 4 Dark Bluish Gray Technic Slope Short (Wing Front) 3895 2 Dark Bluish Gray Technic, Brick 1 x 12 with Holes 3069bpb030 1 Dark Bluish Gray Tile 1 x 2 with Computer Keyboard Standard Pattern 6636 10 Dark Bluish Gray Tile 1 x 6 3003 2 Light Bluish Gray Brick 2 x 2 2456 2 Light Bluish Gray Brick 2 x 6 3659 3 Light Bluish Gray Brick, Arch 1 x 4 3460 6 Light Bluish Gray Plate 1 x 8 3020 3 Light Bluish Gray Plate 2 x 4 61483 2 Light Bluish Gray Technic Pin with Dual Wheels Holder 4519 6 Light Bluish Gray Technic, Axle 3 32001 2 Light Bluish Gray Technic, Plate 2 x 6 with 5 Holes 3738 1 Light Bluish Gray Technic, Plate 2 x 8 with 7 Holes 2432 2 Light Bluish Gray Tile, Modified 1 x 2 with Handle 3713 6 Red Technic Bush 32062 4 Red Technic, Axle 2 Notched 3003 5 Reddish Brown Brick 2 x 2 4070 6 Reddish Brown Brick, Modified 1 x 1 with Headlight 3062b 4 Reddish Brown Brick, Round 1 x 1 Open Stud 3024 8 Reddish Brown Plate 1 x 1 54200 8 Reddish Brown Slope 30 1 x 1 x 2/3 32016 3 Reddish Brown Technic, Axle and Pin Connector Angled #3 - 157.5 degrees 3700 4 Reddish Brown Technic, Brick 1 x 2 with Hole 3003 4 Trans-Dark Blue Brick 2 x 2 3023 7 Trans-Dark Blue Plate 1 x 2 3062b 2 Trans-Red Brick, Round 1 x 1 Open Stud 44728 2 White Bracket 1 x 2 - 2 x 2 3005 3 White Brick 1 x 1 3004 1 White Brick 1 x 2 3010 2 White Brick 1 x 4 6091 2 White Brick, Modified 1 x 2 x 1 1/3 with Curved Top 3941 1 White Brick, Round 2 x 2 85080 8 White Brick, Round Corner 2 x 2 Macaroni with Stud Notch and Reinforced Underside (New Style) 3023 2 White Plate 1 x 2 3623 3 White Plate 1 x 3 3666 4 White Plate 1 x 6 4282 2 White Plate 2 x 16 3795 3 White Plate 2 x 6 6019 1 White Plate, Modified 1 x 1 with Clip Horizontal 92280 8 White Plate, Modified 1 x 2 with Clip on Top 48336 4 White Plate, Modified 1 x 2 with Handle on Side - Type 2 (closed ends) 2444 2 White Plate, Modified 2 x 2 with Hole 85984 4 White Slope 30 1 x 2 x 2/3 3038 2 White Slope 45 2 x 3 61678 2 White Slope, Curved 4 x 1 No Studs 3665 2 White Slope, Inverted 45 2 x 1 6536 2 White Technic, Axle and Pin Connector Perpendicular 3894 3 White Technic, Brick 1 x 6 with Holes 41677 4 White Technic, Liftarm 1 x 2 Thin 6632 10 White Technic, Liftarm 1 x 3 Thin 3069b 5 White Tile 1 x 2 with Groove 87079 6 White Tile 2 x 4 32056 4 Yellow Technic, Liftarm 3 x 3 L-Shape T (Not taking into account different minifig faces or hair.) +1 for fred67, we swapped an entire Series 1 for Series 4 and his touch-method totally matched my barcode-reading one in terms of accuracy :) -

Ah, of course, I don't know why that didn't occur to me. Meaning, I even remembered that Technic bricks had empty studs like that, but I didn't think they'd use one in a horse. As for that yellow brick I had as a child, it was really weird as it had no hole of any kind through the middle, nor any tube on its inside.
-
Does anyone know why the 2x1 brick on the horse's back has holes in the studs instead of being solid with the word LEGO printed on them? I last saw this in the Weetabix house I got as a child, always assumed it was a fake piece…

Trading Collectable Minifigs Series 1, 2 and 3
megasad replied to danim's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Okay, 24 pages is too much to look through so I apologise if this is formed wrong, but: I have all 16 figures from Series 1, and all 16 from Series 2, brand new and sealed in their bags (identified by barcode). Would anyone like to trade either of these collections for the exact same thing from Series 3? Which is to say, all 16 Series 3 figures, brand new and in their bags and unopened, I guess identified by touching them up real good? And then when Series 4 comes out, I'd like to do the same there too, trading whichever of Series 1 or 2 I have left for a complete collection. Is anyone interested? -
Ah, I hadn't realised I'd included a Facebook redirect link by accident, sorry about that. It led to the same URL you mentioned, so I updated my post. Does anyone have a feel for how busy these kinds of things are? Like, will I need to be queuing up the night before, camping out and the like? Or simply show up at 10:55am?

So is anyone else planning on going to the "grand opening" at the end of this month? http://stores.lego.com/en-us/Frankfurt/LandingPage.aspx ... And then I just re-read that page I bookmarked a few weeks ago and it says it opened today, 9th July?! I mean, I'll still go at the end of the month to get the exclusive model, already booked the day off work after all, but how is it an "opening" if the shop will have been operating for three weeks already? But so wheee, I go see it tomorrow after work.
-
Photos of the model partially assembled would be powerfully appreciated, thanks! And I was wondering about the mast; does it have a tube or the like through the middle, to make it stronger?
-
You're doing the older Link, and for that I reckon your efforts are pretty good, especially as you're making your own hat, where I'm just going to use the green rag. And yep, I reckon I shall buy Skywalker hairs for Christmas and then post people the green pirate rags in the new year.
-
That's a possibility... I was originally going to use a regular smiley face, but might give this anime-style face instead, as it will more closely resemble the Wind Waker Link. So either that hair you mentioned, or posibly this Forestmen cap in green? I just moved into a new apartment and so all my LEGO is packed away, waiting for me to get many teeny-tiny drawers for the walls of my LEGO-office, in order that I might sort it all out... So this will be the first model I build entirely in Bricksmith first, no sketch-models even, so I shall totally post the LDraw file sooner rather than later. PS - I just found this version of Link, using the hairpiece mentioned: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dunechaser/103300924/ It looks a little too detailed, I think Skywalker hair may look more cute. PPS - Holy crap, I'm tempted to get the $14 hat as this looks perfect: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dunechaser/1883086933/ And this head with white hair works much better than the anime face as he actually looks happy and not creepy.
-
Bop, I thought so, but I couldn't work out which area this would go in better. It can be moved to a better one?
-
Yep, whenever I make a model in Bricksmith I always put the LDraw file online at the very least but I'll leave posting the instructions and box until after Christmas as I want it to be a surprise for those I intend on giving it to. I've never tried melting LEGO and so shall leave that for now. I guess I'll have to try getting ahold of that tiny pirate set somehow before Christmas, as otherwise the green caps cost upwards of $14... But said new cap is a much darker shade of green... Hoom, I may just end up going with some Luke Skywalker hair.

I found this model of the King of Red Lions (from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker) quite a while ago: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=139679 I'd like to build a version of this as a Christmas present for a few people I know (with LEGO-style instruction manual and box art of course) and reckon I can work most of it out, but was just wondering if anyone knew which LEGO piece Link's hat is? You can see it from the back in this picture: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1331852 Thanks for any help.
-
Seeing as I'm one of those people who never puts the stickers on anyway, do you know how much a version without any stickers at all would cost?
-
Nice. I wanted to buy it, but at nearly £40 it's a little too expensive for me. So, though I don't have the cockpit, I shall see what I can come up with based on your design. I recently made my own version of this Desk Model Fighter, and that turned out pretty good. Thanks again for making your model available for us all to play with.

I get to be the 4th Japanese Kabaya Sweets set with this tiny little spaceship: 3071: Light Flyer I do like the spaceships, so that's okay with me. Hoo-hah.

What is the weirdest place you build lego?
megasad replied to THE-FORCE's topic in General LEGO Discussion
On the train back to London from a holiday in Daddyhole Cove in mid 2006, my girlfriend and I built the police boat we'd found for cheap in a Woolworths there. I can't remember how we didn't lose any pieces, but we didn't, so all was well. -
When I moved out of my parent's home back in 2001, I couldn't take my LEGO with me but thought it would be a waste to just put it in storage, so I gave it all to my two youngest siblings to play with (sister of 6 and brother of 1). As far as I can gather, they never really liked to play with it but managed to lose/break a lot of pieces, so when I was over for Christmas in 2006 I asked if they wanted it and they said no and so now I have what's left of it back in my own collection. Since then, my little brother has actually got interested in LEGO, but is more of the Bionicle persuasion, with a little SpongeBob and Star Wars thrown in. Weirdly, I think me giving them all my LEGO just meant they took it for granted and so they couldn't be bothered to play with it. Now that he's amassing his own collection, my brother seems to like playing with LEGO much more, likes to help me build more complex models when I occasionally visit.
