  1. I voted yes. I believe that with a little bit of thinking you can combine the sets. I am working on a town to do that (although I have only cafe corner atm). The more modular buildings you have the easier it gets. The modern city sets also have difficulties with the tiny classic sets. I have for instance a post office set, which is very small compared to any building lego has now on the market. I also combine the creator houses in my city, which are a nice "bridge" between modular and classic/city buildings. Finally I love cafe corner, since it finally justifies my ladder engine in the fire brigade :D
  2. Euh, wasn't there a competition of EB itself to make MOC elf sets? At least there where some entrees who also made box-art like this. So I have to agree with above statements: nice mocs, not so nice folder title, but no need for all the fuzz...
  3. DNL tired of castles? hmmm sound like a nice april fool joke ;-) But for a joke you made a nice MOC ;-) Good to see that your talent streches far, beyond castles!
  4. As a kid I was collecting the old grey 4.5/12Volt system, or at least I tried to. At the moment I was at the age money started to flow in, I wanted to change from the battery driven to the 12V system (with the inner rail tracks you could easily do this). Then 9V was introduced. After some time I decided to step into the 9V system and started to slowly built up tracks, but I decended in the dark age at that time. Now about 10 years later I return from my dark ages I see an RC system and a newly announced system. At least I will wait for the latter. So for me the answer about your question: I don't hate RC, I just don't know it that well... wrong timing for that...
  5. The van is a nice set and I doubt it was impopular. I therefore (sure like to) believe the OPs theory about a post office release. Of course I dont like half dreams... so I think it will be a modular post office with van ;-)
  6. Very nice discussion about a strange dutch error (dutch people, incluiding myself translate "big" often as "great", since "big" = "groot" in dutch). I am really impressed by this MOC, its detail, its size, its effort to built and I thank the OP of showing it. All the other MOCs deserve a tread for themselves (or already have...)
  7. I think this set is an unfair battle for the nice pirate it incluides... Poor guy only has a tiny wall and a cutlass to defend himself. And even if he survives the first barrage of the cannons, the rifles of the soldiers will finish him. Unfair indeed.... ...and a very nice set as said ;-)
  8. My first Pirate sets where: And I received them for my birthday in 1990 together with the comic (doesnt count I guess as a set?) first thing in the morning.
  9. Unbelievable at what speed you built fantastic mocs! Not so long ago you filed excellent entries for the CCCV, last week I saw you entering the CC "proffession" tournament and now this. Another fantastic moc and this is one of my favorites to look at. I like the very "raw" feeling Nice!
  10. Nice info! Just a little remark/question: is the distance between big wheel 1 and 3 (the two with rubber bands) not large enough for a motor? The wheel in between should not be a problem, only a small (unpowered) hole is enough if required (or a construction around it). At least it should be possible to rebuilt this train to a powered one...but I doubt that Lego will not provide us the tools to do that ;-)

    City '09?

E50,- for the city set with the bus etc.? Thats not bad...not bad at all :D *starting to wonder about the interior/details now...*
  12. Like always your layouts keep amazing me. Your Vesta project is a nice addition to an awesome layout. And although its huge, it doesnt miss-fit in your town. Nice!
  13. Thanks Brickster! Loving this set, and loving your review... (as always!) Ofcourse the machines are what you believe, but I believe the parts you are in doubt of are: - Welding bottles - Machining/working bench to make repairs on - Spray can to kill some bugs (EDIT: or for painting) - Lawn mower for the lazy :P Again thank you for the review!
  14. The difference in cow-size between the "official" and the brickforge cow can easily be explained by the varied of species there are in the "cow family". An uncle of mine has a diary farm and the diffference even between the same type of cows is already quite big. I also don't agree the horse of Lego is to big. When I was at the university the police regulary asked volunteers to do riot trainings and one day I had the oppertunity to stand opposed to a police horse (similar to the medieval battle horses...) I can tell you: they are WAY taller then cows (and bulls) and humans. A picture to illustrate:

    City '09?

I had similar thoughts, although I did not pull the shuttle with it. It was clearly stated in the articles of the new train-system that new track geometrics would be considered. So it is likely these Indy tracks will end up in some train set as well.
  16. @OP: If you think there are resembles with LOTR, then there are resembles. Thats the nice part about Lego; What you imagine is true! If you would only have read the books, the resemblies are even more! Keep in mind most people only vision LOTR like Peter Jackson visioned it, which is very nice, but also very narrow. And of course a lot points to LOTR, since LOTR was the mother of all fantasy. Some random comments: - Moria was active in the time between the Hobbit and the LOTR. In The Hobbit it is described how Balin leaves to Moria and also in LOTR it is pointed out that Gimli was also in Rivendel to see why the Dwarves didnt hear from Balin anymore. So if you like: Dwarves Mine is the scene where it got conquered. Like I said: If you like! - In the first book is also a story of "Tom Bombadil" (forgive me I am not sure about the english name) and the undead kingdom. Skeletons can be based on that story.
  17. I am not very enthousiastic about the chariot, although I like the weaponry on it. The drawbridge I really like. I just have one open question for it: Is it in two pieces or are they attached? On the picture you cant see it, but the base can be editted out by the water that is shopped in. The fortress of the trolls really requires a full circle view. It looks great and I am looking forward to its release!
  18. Hello DD, Welcome to EB-forums! I hope you enjoy your stay here. My first advice, as a reply on your question, is to look through the sticky items above in this trains&Town forums. Espcieally the reviews can be of interest for you: LINK In the top section, you see the reviews of 2009 sets, incluiding the subtheme: Construction. "Contruction Site" is a set you really need to check out. Its an excellent start set with a lot of construction items boxed in one set. Reviews on EB are of good quality, so this entire review thread is worthwhile for you! If you look to general townsets that are excellent for starting a town, I would like to point to "10184 Town Plan" Hope this will help get you started. Regards ~Lockt~
  19. Thank you for your post! Since I emerged from my Dark Ages I am looking around what to do with trains. I already have 2 different systems (i entered my dark ages just after the introduction of the 9V system, so I ended up with a 9V system and the battery driven 4.5V (?) system, which cannot be combined properly). The latest train system could not appeal me very much, also because I didn't like to introduce a third system in my collection. Backward compatability to 9V would make the new system very appealing for me. Equally important as the train system it self I think is the "environment" around the trains. One very positive feature of the 12V system, where a lot of asscesoires where available. Maybe I am hoping for to much, but I at least would encourage any step in that direction. For its just a matter of patience ;-)
  20. After many doubts I finally picked this set up, my first construction set since the 80s. Exactly like it is described by the reviewer I hated the many, many construction sets with nowhere to go... A lego town constructed from official sets have 30% of its population working for the police, 30% for the firedepartment and 30% for a construction company with nothing to construct. When I first put my eyes on this set I was to much focussed on the vehicles with it. The small dumpster is nice, but I don't like the size of especially the truck, but after rethinking my point-of-view I noticed this was the only disadvantage of the set. The crane is very well built, the lift is of a clever and simple design and the modular building is amazing! Since I am a lazy person that likes building cities with official sets and only make use self-constructed items to "furnice" the city I am very pleased with this set :D I voted Above Average becaus of this. One nice detail worth mentioning: modular buildings comes with flowers straight from the factory ;-)
  21. I check classic-town.net daily, but never commented on the posts. This doesnt mean I dont like them, but had more to do with my password gone missing :P I requested a new one and will occasionally comment.... I am personally most interested in lay-outs, diorama's and city overviews with either mocs, sets or a combination of both
  22. I really like the advent calandar and so I saved my copy 'till now and open it every day just one door. Altough it are very small items I really like the amound of assecoires in it.
  23. This is so true... I am glad you mentioned it. I am too young to have bought/got this set myself, but I got it from an uncle who wanted to get rid of his lego. Look at the street furniture of this nice set. It is still amazing! Just to show the board here what gem we are talking about: http://www.peeron.com/inv/sets/379-1
  24. Drawbridge and troll fortress :S *calling if I can make overtime for extra money* Very curious what they made of it!
  25. I saw "RebelRock" and "Castle" on the forums, which means: check out immeadiately. For good reason... amazing creation again!
