  1. ''There was Pepper Potts wearing the armor in the Malibu Mansion set...
  2. My guess is that it's neither. LEGO enhances images all the time to imply motion and energy (such as glowing light sabers). I think it's meant to represent motion but not meant to indicate that the figure actually rolls.
  3. In case anyone still thinks BB-8 will have magnets, think about it for a minute. Here's what you would accomplish by connecting the head to a sphere that way: 1) A figure that lays on its side, always. 2) A figure with a head that can be positioned "anywhere," but looks pretty much the same no matter where you position the head. 3) A figure that can be rolled in tight little circles with the head bouncing on the ground. 4) A highly sophisticated swallowing hazard. Here's what you would not accomplish: 1) A ball that can be rolled while the head stays at the top. The magnet would do nothing to keep the head at the top. As for the diagram a few pages back that did not require magnets, it has a fundamental design flaw: the sphere created from those two half-sphere pieces only has one circular hole, on the flattened side. There's nowhere else for the head to go when the sphere rotates, it's always "attached" to that hole. I can think of one way that LEGO could make a figure that kind of does what people want: the body would have a thin central section that connects to the head and two half-sphere-shaped wheels. The figure would roll if you held it by its head and moved it along. The figure would still fall over when you aren't holding it, in fact it would fall over more easily because of this mechanism. One final point: LEGO didn't even make R2-D2 with a head that could rotate, and that would have been really easy to do!
  4. The Legend Beasts all have more than 100 pieces. The Lion and Croc have the most, at 120 and 122. Lots of those parts are brand new elements. $10 is a great price!
  5. Couldn't the same be said for most LEGO sets in the same price range? I agree that it would be nice for Friends (or a new theme) to branch out into different kinds of activities, though.
  6. I think it's more like "things to crash into in just the right way" as opposed to "obstacles," but that's nit-picking. :-) It looks like fun. And yeah, those colors are impressive!
  7. Thanks for the link! That post addresses the counter-arguments pretty well, which until now they seemed to be ignoring. It's a big change from all the misinformation that was being spread.
  8. Rubber hair is good for holding the tiny accessories (bows, sunglasses, etc.) that come in some of the sets. The accessories would fall out of ABS hair much more easily.
  9. It fits pretty much the same as the similar minifig hairpiece. It's not too high.

  11. This isn't a great comparison, as anyone with any interest in Star Wars has seen the movies that these characters appear in and the characters would look familiar to people who don't know their names. Meanwhile, there are so many different ways to be exposed to the well-known superheroes that people can be fans of them without even reading a single comic book (and this is especially likely to be true for kids, I bet). The point wasn't about themes in the stories, but rather things that can be made into LEGO sets. Harry Potter may not have vehicles, but it has just enough iconic locations and scenes. "Good vs. evil" works for $10-$20 sets with a few characters in them, but larger sets need iconic vehicles or locations to get any attention.
  12. I'm not sure what you mean. It's possible that Bricklink has some of the series 6 minifig parts under the wrong color (dark instead of medium, I don't have series 6 yet so I can't say), but I don't see anything else wrong. Bricklink and the LEGO Catalog both show dark azure as being darker than medium azure, and the real thing is noticeably darker. Azure Comparison by cjedwards47, on Flickr
  13. Friends sets have medium azure while Alien Conquest and Spongebob have dark azure (and comparing them side by side, the difference is much greater than I expected). Several of the Friends sets have lime green in them, which I'm pretty sure LEGO already calls yellowish green. I'm dubious as to the existence of a new color there. Were the "6 new colors" advertised anywhere other than the catalog? I'm thinking out-of-touch marketing people might be to blame for the claim. There is another blue color in the Friends sets that was extremely rare before: bright light blue.
  14. What do you mean exactly? Are you talking about some new part in the sets?
  15. There are two shades of blue in the set... can you compare them to existing colors? Are they existing colors or new?
  16. Did anyone notice what appears to be a new piece in the trees in these sets? I think there's a 2x2 round plate with two bars attached, similar to this piece. It's being used to attach the branches.

  18. What's wrong with being a man?
  19. I think these sets really do have 2 x 4 tiles. There are three signs that look like they use them, there's the hood of the jeep which has a partial line across it in the image, but no visible gap in the front edge. Then there's another thing that no one has mentioned: the tiles on the wings of Buzz's ship. They appear to be printed. There's one gap between studs 4 and 5, and no other gap. I noticed them myself before reading any of the discussion here. With five separate examples, I think it might not be coincidence.
  20. I just uploaded some interior shots of Island 4 to Flickr!
  21. Thanks for all the wonderful feedback, everyone! I do have those types of things in my collection, and they haven't seen any MOC action in a long time. Some of them are on display at my parents' house, actually. So far, I've kept my islands mostly mini-fig free. I imagine being on the island myself (and I build from that perspective), and I want other people to be able to do the same, as opposed to having the island "belong" to mini-figs. If that makes sense. Some of the other islands I have in mind for the future would probably be inhabited by mini-figs, if I ever get around to making them. I'll take some more pictures--including closeups--some time soon. I do have all of my islands still. Fun fact: I used up most of my light gray and a fair amount of my blue bricks on the first island, and because I knew I wouldn't want to take it apart any time soon (this was several years ago, now), I joined BrickLink and started an addiction to it. I haven't yet photographed all the islands together. I arranged the first three for my own benefit after building the third. The 4th hasn't been officially introduced to the others. Here are the first three (sorry for the mismatched thumbnails here): Island 1 Island 2 Island 3
  22. Vig. 80d Hello all! I didn't envision this as a Pirate MOC specifically when I built it--I was thinking Castle--but it could pass for either one. I hope you like it! You can see the full set on Flickr here. I only have three photos now, but I'll be adding more later. -Chris
  23. Hey everyone, I'm the creator of this MOC. Thanks for all the kind words! I have this island on Flickr now in addition to BrickShelf. Thanks to oo7 for spotting it there and telling me about this thread. A few comments: The photograph that is mostly blurry was intentionally focused on the waterfall in the back. I don't bother to build studless for dirt, sand, grass, and some rock (I don't always like the studded look, but I think entirely studless would be too smooth). I haven't decided who inhabits my islands yet (this one is the second in a series of three so far). I didn't go with pirates or knights because I didn't want to have to make everything fortified. I wanted it to be mostly idyllic. I now realize that I haven't built anything that was specifically pirate-themed in a long time, so I'll have to keep it in mind for the future. The building doesn't have many interior details right now, but it is all modular to allow me to add them. Maybe I'll do that eventually, and I'll also take some shots that show hidden details. There's a glowing red gem behind the waterfall and a cave inside the middle of the island, in addition to a large basement under the building.
