The main draw for me is the female pirate fig.

I think another thing stacked against this ship when comparing it to Brickbeard's is price. I'm pretty sure the last ship wasn't $100 like this one is. Seems like a slightly worse value for the dollar. A nice thing about the black pearl and Queen Anne too is the sails looked good from both sides. The sails on the bounty look silly unless you see it from "the good side".

I've been out of the pirate lego scene for a long time. Since the Black Pearl days. When I saw a couple Pirate Lego sets at Walmart I FREAKED. There were only two of the smaller sets, the rest of the display were GONE. Instantly I imagined what new pirate ship must have devised. When I rushed home and hit Amazon my excitement was quickly dashed. I was wondering if I had made a mistake at first, the ship looked identical to the brick beard's bounty at a glance, only not as good. The colors look poor and not classy at all. Still not enough cannons for all of the hatches for whatever reason I can't imagine. I held out hope for some kind of make shift deck like with the barracuda, but no such luck. And now, only one door?! The figurines also don't seem quite as good. Agh. I may still buy it, if only because I never got to enjoy these ships when I was young (too expensive for my family) and to show my support for the brand. The plank is nice, but to me the lack of a second door and limited cannon placement/hatches seems like a much worse trade off in comparison. I missed out on the BBB. But boy, I wish I could buy that one instead. It seems like from the BCB to the BBB to this that the ships just seem to gradually keep getting gradually worse with time... You'd think they'd get better. :(

Which ship would be the best as a LEGO set?
Cervantes replied to Brickington's topic in LEGO Pirates
My top picks: 1. The Adrian (fictional... still awesome.) 2. HMS Enterprise 3. USS Constitution (Any ship that has seen countless real life battles and victories, has been named by George Washington AND is still in service after 200 years has to be ultra badass) -
A lot of people take issue with the cannon. Wouldn't it be handy to have if a faster ship with more sails tried to come up from behind?

What your most wanted Pirate theme ship?
Cervantes replied to Dr Leg O Brick's topic in LEGO Pirates
As a kid I always wanted the Skull's eye, but it's high prince meant the most my mother would spring for was a renegade runner. In hindsight I'd still very much like a schooner, though I find myself warming up to the barracuda now as well. Given the high prices of the schooner in the states, I see myself likely waiting for a complete 2k2 barracuda when I see one for a decent price. I saw one go just the other week for $91 on ebay, but just didn't have the cash at the time. =( -
They sure looked awfully happy! Wearing those big ol' smiles while hauling around all manner of guns and swords with which to gleefully and happily murder and dismember each other with.
-
I think it would be neat to see a female lego captain. Call her "BrickBonny" or something. Having one cannon per hatch included and some kind of secondary deck would also be swell. Seeing a legacy set like the Skull's Eye Schooner re-released would also be a treat, like the Barracuda was in 2k2 for those that lacked the parents/funds to score one at the time. But If I could only have one Lego Pirates request, it would be to see more actual sets be released. =( If Lego doesn't resume Classic Pirates to replace Caribbean, it's a good bet we won't see anything again for a decade, if ever.

Yeah I settled on getting the pearl, the barracuda is off the table at this point. If I do ever get one, it won't be new. I saw a used 2002 edition on ebay sell for $91 with all it's pieces and the manual, that will probably be the route to take when I have more money to squander on overpriced toys. :) I can deal with used parts if it's the newer 2k2 variant, at least those parts aren't as brittle and ancient as the 89 variant. Lego may have even made slightly better molds that better resist the passage of time since their techniques from the 80's. I just couldn't deal with a used 89'.

The Queen Anne only has one more cannon than the Pearl (3), but it seems to end up feeling even MORE stripped down. While the Pearl only has 2 guns for 4 working hatches, the Anne has only 3 guns to serve 12(!). I can't imagine tossing in a few more would have broke the bank for Lego. (What is 18 more pieces in the scope of 1100?)I imagine much of the cost is going into the license/development/middleman wholesale price/packaging and transport. The piece cost to mass produce are small potatoes in comparison. Yeah, that was kind of what I was trying to say. You have four usable hatches, but only two actual cannons. And in regards to the one on each side that are dummy parts, that is what I was getting at when I said the pearl really needed one more chunk of hull plating. That would have put it on comparable stature to most other pirate ships like the barracuda, while also ensure the third hatch on each side was not obscured by stairs. I think what annoys me most are the lengthy hoops we need to jump through to get the rest of the cannons we need. Lego SERIOUSLY needs to sell separate cannon packs/pirate swag accessories mini packs if they're going to pull shenanigans. I would be pretty mad if I were Jack Sparrow, swearing a life debt bargain for a ship with flaws like stairs getting in the way of the cannon hatches rending them useless while only having one cannon on each side of the ship anyway. Going into battle with the Black Pearl would be SUICIDE! XD

Well with the BSB out of the question now, I guess I'm left with pursuing the Black Pearl. Does this seller seem legit? http://coffeehots.net/LEGO-Pirates-of-The-Caribbean-Black-Pearl-4184-P2694256.aspx They have it for $69.99 with a coupon code for free shipping. it also has no sales tax, far better than the $100 + tax all the local stores are charging for it. Although like with my first post, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. Has anyone ever heard of "Coffeehots"?

Tell me about it. I had the audacity to think for a brief moment I could finally enjoy the epic black seas barracuda in new condition without spending $500. =( It was nice to dream. What sucks is all these people selling Pirate ships for $300-$1500 don't give one red cent to lego, the seller gets all the pie. I would LOVE to support lego and give Lego my money, but they don't make this stuff any more and they may never again.

I'm going to have to agree with half the posts here; A Darth Revan minifigure would be the awesome.

Pirates! Never to take a shower or brush their teeth! A child's dream.

^ definitely a lacking feature. =) I'm considering getting a Black pearl myself. But I have a few pet peeves... -lame anchor -Only two cannons to outfit four cannon hatches. I think if we're spending a hundred or more they could have the decency to pack in a cannon for each hatch. ;/ The QAR seems to be even worse in this regard in sporting four times as many hatches as cannons, without so much as wheels to rotate the cannons around with if needed on the other side. -Ship seems kind of small for the price tag. BSB doesn't even have 70 more pieces, yet the pearl is dwarfed by it. One more piece of hull plating would have done wonders -no upper deck I don't know. It doesn't seem to quite be worth $100, but sadly there are few other ships these days I can get my hands on and I'm eager to finally get something bigger than the renegade runner. If only the only people still making new Black Sea Barracuda's weren't gimmick brands pushing low quality parts.

LOL is that supposed to be Hamlet? I think lace collars would be a fine new addition to their line of accessories, though I always seem to think of clowns when I see people with them. >.<

I think Classic is better than POTC. At least with classics Lego can do a better job and show more innovation. People have no preconceived expectations for how an original ship should "look" or what it's features should appear as. People have a very firm grasp of how a PoTC ship should look however, and that restrains Lego on what they are able to design. I also dislike how PoTC ships don't seem to have any kind of second deck. POTC is finished and I'm not sure if it's a good thing or a bad. On the one hand it could mean classic pirates will fill the gap next year, on the other it could mean no new pirate ships at all. =(

It would be wonderful if it were an all new original pirate ship as a precursor to bringing back classic pirate designs. Although that is probably only wishful thinking on my part.

General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread
Cervantes replied to Oswald the Rabbit's topic in LEGO Pirates
Are you guys talking about the ship way off in the distance on some counter? If so, that would seem to be a very unsafe place to keep a prototype, on top of a counter where just anyone could probably swipe or unintentionally misplace. Something like that would probably be behind glass or with some protective measures. -
Hello everyone. I was big into lego back in the early 90's when I was young and only just recently got back into them as I remembered the pirate sets of old. I've since been drawn to your great community and have come to admire the passion that all of you put into your sets =) I don't know how frequent I'll post, but I'm glad to be among people with similar interests. ^_^ Hello!

See the "Edit" part of my post I made last night. ;) I will certainly do that :) And thank you for the welcome! The Knights guy you have in your sig looks interesting. I used to be into Kingdoms when I was a child, but I can readily tell just by looking at the colors and the horse blanket that Lego's color and design has improved volumes since then. I may have to check Kingdoms out again now that I've taken a second look at lego. There isn't much in the way of Pirates anymore, sadly. =(

Hi all. I've been a lurker these past few weeks, I just recently got back into legos and pirates are my favorite theme. I have heard unending amounts of praise for the BSC, but it has seemed so expensive for being a vintage set that I was instead eyeing the black pearl. Ironically, I was browsing on ebay for a better price for the black pearl (amazon wants $95 and the 2 walmarts near me both want $100) when I noticed this possible gem. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bricks-Block-Building-Toys-Figures-308-Pirates-Series-set-Black-Pearl-870-pcs-/220981315432?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3373834768 Now, that doesn't look like a black pearl. It looks like a barracuda, but for the black pearl price! (South Korea typo misunderstand I'm assuming) The pieces look to be new and in very good condition and between the price and shipping I could score it for under $70. Is that a good deal for a Barracuda or is there something fishy going on with it being an overseas vendor? I don't really care about a box or manual (can find the latter online), I'm not that huge a collector. I just want to build ships and have them on display. I don't really know the going rates of ships, which is why I'm wondering if this is auction is worth the money? I'm willing to wait a month on shipping around the world if it gets me the best pirate set ever released for a solid price. Edit: After sifting through tons of google searchs I finally found an article on them being called "Enlighten building blocks" that are largely knock offs of Lego sets and have lower quality parts. If only lego would re-issue some of this very popular sets these knock off variants have tried to re-create. =( Disregard/delete
