  1. Thank you. It was on the far left end of the seaside village. Brickshelf is acting funky, so I can only put up this pic. The Chemical plant was right next to and to the left of the industrial building with the water tower.
  2. Thanks, I should clarify. I didn't build this at the show. I built it the night before the show when I saw the NILTC club layout and realized that I had to fill some space. I do bring a bag of useful LEGO with me to all shows just in case, but that's more for repairs, not enough to build any MOCs.
  3. I really don't think the Hobby Train has gotten enough props here. If I had to choose, I would put Emerald Night at the top, but I would put Hobby train at a close second. It allowed you to build a modern diesel engine that was just as detailed as the BSNF, a crocodile that is every bit as eye catching as the Super Chief, and little steam engines and cars every bit as charming as the Christmas train. Go here and scroll through the various models and see what I mean.
  4. Thanks for the info Bryan. It's great to see the BW team keeping an eye on community "goings-on" at the various forums. Dude, Bryan is the "Somebody planning stuff". As I said before, I'm not saying that undersea might not end up a theme, but if he says no decisions have been made, then no decisions have been made.
  5. I have a feeling that Brickworld 2010 will look alot like Brickworld 09, just bigger. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if they tweak things like arrangement of themes, location of vendors, aisles (though they did a good job with that this year), method of conducting PAB and the in store events. Dude you really need to back this up with some evidence before you turn this thread into a rumor mill. I'm not saying it's not possible, but it's not on the website, and none of my friends who are on the Brickworld Coordinating team have mentioned anything to me. It's not likely that individual space will increase much. With record numbers of participants last year, it's likely that everyone will continue to be apportioned a table, with exceptions made for notable setups, clubs, and cooperative displays. Also, "entire Hotel" only means that in addition to last year's space they will have full time use of the room that was used for the closing ceremonies (they only had part time use of it last year), and that will likely still be needed mostly for ceremonies. There are exceptions, of course, but I think that the challenge for a convention is not to see how much you can bring, but to present your most impressive work and the work that would be most interesting to the community.
  6. This is brilliant. I like your chosen style and scale. There seem to be a spate of beautiful buildings coming from EB members that combine CC and Classic towns styles. As to comparative scale, it all depends on what you think the current range of CC series buildings represent. If CC and GG are representative of single family homes, then your houses might be a bit small. If however you think -as I do- that CC and GG are apartment buildings, then your little houses are just the right size. I'm also pleased to see that you managed to use lime green in a way that is cute and vintage, but not ridiculous. Well done!
  7. I remember when they had those swivel door panels without the door panels. I never did find the panels, and ended up ordering some on Bricklink. I've found alot of good stuff at PAB over the years. Dark Blue 1x2x2 corners Dark red 2x4, 2x3, 2x2 brick ceiling mounted (reverse slope) computer screens Bamboo pieces 1x4x5 door frames and clear, "classic" and barred door inserts! dark brown arches 1x2x3 arched windows. 1x2x5 trans blue blocks. large leaf plants Cheese slopes in trans green, orange and clear trans neon green jems etc, etc, etc Sometimes the selection is pretty grim, but every so often there is a new Pick-a-Brick list of selected parts that store managers can order from, and there's always quite a few really neat pieces that show up each year.
  8. There are a number of pieces that were formerly in the selection that I would like to see back. -dark red and dark blue basic brick -Large arched "cast iron" gates -SW pilot torsos. I can't belive I missed my chance to get these! As for new pieces to add: -I agree that It'd be nice to see some distinctly female torsos -More printed bricks and tiles would also be nice -Inverse arches in grey and tan. I don't use LDD, and I view PAB as a way for me to get larger amounts of special elements that are expensive elsewhere. Thus, I'd like to see more specialized elements, minifig parts, and architectural details.
  9. It's hard to say. Blue is a simultaneously dark and vibrant color that doesn't get alot of use in the "real" world. Other primary LEGO colors like Yellow and Red can be used for different colors of brick that are commonly found in buildings, but blue is a hard case. I think that blue would be a fine use for a contemporary restaurant, a commercial building like a shop or auto repair garage and I've also seen it used effectively for residential homes. Finally, perhaps a community pool building?
  10. Sorry about that, here's a better link to a set inventory that contains all the hexagonal pipe pieces http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=6199-1
  11. I have a couple questions for those who continue to raise the issue of certain threads being closed, and. The last time this happened, I posted my personal theory on how these things happen. I'm going to put it here to preface a new question. Steps of "complaint" topics: 1) Individual has beef with something about a forum 2) Individual posts a topic about complaint 3) Forum leaders acknowledge indivudal, but decide/state that the forum is fine the way it is 4) Individual restates original point with more vehemence. 5) Forum leaders repeat original statement along with suggestion that thread is repeating it'self (which it is) 6) Individual repeats complaints, makes statement of their indpendence in thought and speech, insinuates that they are being persecuted and make subtle insults at staff. 7) If thread continues this way, Forum Leaders lock thread and chastise individual. For those of you who post complaint topics, and those of you who have considered posting them. When a complaint is raised, and not resolved the way you want to, what is the motivation for continuing the thread? What kind of satisfaction do you seek by continuing after an issue has been decided in a way that you don't agree with? Is there some hope that continuing the issue will change their minds? Is the goal to convince other members that you are in the right and the mods are not? I ask because quite often, an individual will raise a complaint. The staff will address the complaint, and more often than not, the content of the response will be basically "This is what we have decided. This is what we think will work best for the forum. We are not doing it your way." Yet, the conversation will continue for a few pages, and get more and more negative. Why does it have to be this way? Final thought from me. I think alot of us need to change the paradigm we use when we think of online forums. Think of EB as an "Owned Entity", a home, private school, corporation, etc., etc. I'll use "home" for my metaphor. This home is owned and operated by the Mods and staff. The home is remarkably open to people of all types who are interested in the home. However, remember that the home belongs to it's owners. They have their rules, and guests are expected to follow those rules. Being a "Member" does not confer ownership, only responsibility. Though called "Members", they are essentially are guests in that home. You may not approve of the rules, judgments, and decisions of the owners, but that shouldn't be surprising. It's rare to find two homeowners with exactly the same rules and code of conduct for their homes. Now here's where the good news comes in. If we followed this paradigm, we would be much more civil to each other. I don't know of many homeowners who would tolerate being called a "Jerk" in their own home, and a guest who sneaks in under false pretenses would not usually be tolerated . The fact that members have done these things and not been immediately and permanently discharged from this house is a testament to the toleration and "moderation" (I love a good double entendre) of the owners.
  12. Thanks Klaus, The yellow pieces are from Aquazone sets. You can see most of the pieces in this set inventory
  13. I get it, Brickbuster has multiple accounts! I was wondering how someone with a post count of 1 could be complaining about being chastised for a PREVIOUS post! In all seriousness, I would like to put in my vote for the leadership and a well regulated forum. A few things: 1.There was some whining in the OP about adult standards ruining the fun, and adults taking all the toys. a) This is an AdultFanOfLego forum. There's alot of younger folks here, but they try to aspire to Adult behavior in order to participate. If you want akids forum, try LEGO.com. b) Baloney, kids have just as much access to toys stores LEGO stores and LEGO online as AFOL's. Further, if it was the case, it certainly wouldn't be EB's fault. 2. There was also some complaining about EB staff being too strict. a. EB staff is remarkably lenient, giving warnings and guidance long before any bans or chambering. b. I, and most EB'ers want an ordered atmosphere. There are plenty of other forums choked with spam, 3 word posting, flaming, and other garbage. If that's your cup o, tea, those forums are there for you. Thanks EB staff for your front page advertisement for maturity, writing standards and order.
  14. That's strange, I had no trouble recognizing you from your avatar. Must have been the pauldrons that gave it away. Seriously though, I think at next year's Brickworld one EB member's table should be a sort of "check-in". Not that we all have to stay there, but if EB'ers came by and wrote down that they were in attendance and where their table was, alot more EB'ers would likely have met each other. If Copmike or Stash isn't interested in this, I'll volunteer for next year.
  15. Congratulations Kurt. I saw your ships at Brickworld, and they were really impressive. I did not know that you had won best sea vehicle, but clearly it's well deserved! It's neat to see some of the ships from the transition from sail to steam, it seems to be a subject rarely covered in LEGO MOCs, and yours is particularly nice.
  16. Hmm, the lego budget is quite tight right now, but I might get down there just to get a bit of med blue. Yeah, I saw Teddy's his is spectacular. I don't think mine will be any "competition" to his. It will probably be bigger, but not nearly as detailed. Oh man, you guys are killing me. I would love to be able to buy parts specifically, but asside from a few windows that I PAB'd that's not really an option at this time. At this point, the poll and I are both leaning toward blue and black. To give credit where credit is due, it was SalvoBrick's Hotel that really got me thinking that blue and black could be a good color combination. I find his use of those colors incredibly striking.
  17. Thanks, but don't count me up just yet. It could still be a spectacular failure! I would love black and tan, but I don't have enough tan for a building of the size I am consdering. That would also be a great color combo, but I don't think I have enough dark red to use it as the base color for a train. Yup, but rest assured that you and the rest of NILTC will be among the first to see when it's done. Shortly followed by EB of course. Just regular blue, thugh it might be possible to work in a bit of dark or medium blue as a kind of brick texture...
  18. Welcome to LEGO and EB, Anatomist! Price of minifigs. Yep 1.50-4 bucks is pretty much what you will spend on minifigs at Bricklink. If most of them average around 2 bucks, you'll probably be getting off easy. Search mixed minifig lots on ebay and you might find some at lower prices. As you have surmised, mixed lots and resale shops (there's an excelent article here) are a great way to acquire brick, but not so great for quickly acquiring alot of specific minifigs. If you have star wars minifigs, selling them on ebay or bricklink may be a good way to bring in some money to acquire more minifigs. Once you meet the required number of posts, it may be feasible to post them here and arrange a trade. I've had several good experiences trading with EB'ers. Consider other forums as well. Classic Castle may be a good source to acquire, but castle vigs are valued there, so that may affect your acquisition On the other hand, trading your SW figs at a Star-Wars site like From-Bricks-to-Bothans may get you more castle figs. Good Luck
  19. Ok, here's the problem. I'm removing the train tunnel from Brickington. It's not going to be destroyed, but I need it for the basis of a new Top-Secret Project. In it's place, I'm going to build a Train Station. It's going to be in the same location as the tunnel, so it will be 32 studds deep, 64-96 studs long, and 22-32 studds tall. The problem is deciding on a color sheme. Here's the considerations for the building 1) The primary accent color will be black, as I have alot of great architectural pieces and windows in that color. 2) I want the main color to be a color that I have alot of 3) I want the main color to be a color that I don't use often So I think I've narrowed it down to two choices, Yellow and Black and Blue and Black. If you've got a better idea, feel free to make your case. I'm going to do my best to abide by the decision of the Eurobricks majority
  20. Very well done! I can't wait to see them in a town together. As you may know, 16x16 modular buildings are very close to my heart. You have done a fantastic job of melding the Erik Brock (Market Street) Syle modular style with the whimsical, bold color schemes of Classic Town. Your buildings would look great in a layout with either CC, or classic town structures. They are all very nice, but I have to agree with others who said that the Hotel is just brilliant! One suggestion for improvement, you have alot of large windows, but no interiors. Even a few people or some basic furniture inside the buildings would go a long way towards improving the overall look of your layout.

    New LEGO cap!

I completely agree. I ordered a few of the new caps from PAB online today to see how they are, but I ordered 4-6 times as many hair pieces. My guess is that they are using both the new and old molds in flag production. It will be interesting to see if -unlike the flags- they eventually standardize which hat goes in which set. It is my guess that they will.
  22. I've not done the process my self, but as far as I know, when you upload your design to to LEGO's website, you will get a report of the cost of your vehicle and if all the pieces are available. If you are using the most current version of LDD, with the most current parts palete, then you should be able to order your car just as you created it. As to Bricklink, it's surely possible. If you have to use alot of different sellers, it might be more expensive, most likely it will be a bit cheaper unless you are using alot of uncommon, valuable parts. No way to know for sure though, until you do the comparison yourself.
  23. And you deserve them all. Interesting about the dead end station. The two largest passenger stations in Chicago are both dead end stations. Ogilvie (aka "Burlington Northwestern" or "Madison Street Station") Has the tracks run in at above street level and the tracks terminate in the 2nd/3rd story of the Citibank Building Union Station on the other hand has a large building that looks like a train station and takes up a whole city block, but the tracks come in underground.
  24. Have a good summer. I worked a summer camp as a climbing instructor. Camp work is a blast, you're going to love it! Hope the LEGO withdrawal isn't too painful...
  25. Great job! These will be a godsend for those who do LEGO animation and need a range of expressions. I have a request. Is there any way you could make the classic smiley on transparent? I have alot of brown heads, and I'd like to make some "regular" brown people. If you want to make some other classic LEGO faces, I won't object, but I don't want to push my luck...
