  1. So, we almost have all the information on the new Hobbit sets. We are only missing the piece count for two, and the confirmed price for one. This is what things are looking like: Riddles for the Ring Set Number: 79000 MSRP: $9.99 Pieces: 105 Price Per Piece: 0.10 Minifigures: Gollum, Bilbo in red coat Escape from Mirkwood Spiders Set Number: 79001 MSRP: $29.99 Pieces: 298 Price Per Piece: 0.10 Minifigures: Legolas, Tauriel, Fili, Kili Barrel Escape Set Number: 79004 MSRP: $39.99 Pieces: ? Price Per Piece: ? Minifigures: Bilbo in red coat, Gloni, Oin, 2 Elves Attack of the Wargs Set Number: 79002 MSRP: $49.99 Pieces: 400 Price Per Piece: 0.12 Minifigures: Bifur, Thorin, Yazneg, 2 Orcs An Unexpected Gathering Set Number: 79003 MSRP: $59.99-69.99 (supposedly this was quoted in a contest with this set as one of the prizes, despite it conflicting with earlier reports of a $59.99 price tag) Pieces: ? Price Per Piece: ? Minifigures: Bilbo in brown, Gandalf, Balin, Dwalin, Bofur, Bombur The Goblin King Battle Set Number: 79010 MSRP: $99.99 Pieces: 841 Price Per Piece: 0.12 Minifigures: Gandalf, Nori, Dori, Ori, 2 Orcs/Goblins, Scribe (?) Looks pretty good to me! All the sets are around the 10-12 cent PPP point so we don't have any high ones (so far) like we did with the first LotR wave (Gandalf Arrives and Attack on Weathertop). The only thing now is to find out if any of the minor characters in the sets have names, the piece count for An Unexpected Gathering and Barrel Escape, and the price for sure for An Unexpected Gathering.
  2. The only thing I might change is the face on that far left archer. All the rest of the figures have cheek lines and facial hair and whatnot but he only has his basic facial features. Then again I could also imagine him as a really young soldier compared to the rest who are older, grizzled veterans so maybe that was what you were going for? If so then nevermind!
  3. I think the ONLY thing I would change is make the grass cut off closer to the castle. Maybe 1/3 as long as you currently have it, or even half? I say this because the scene would look a lot more filled then, and not have so much empty space in the back. It would feel a little more like an epic battle that way. Not that it doesn't already feel extremely epic!
  4. I completely agree. I would consider buying the Lego set if they used a design similar to yours. As is I will never ever buy it, even if it's discounted like 50%.
  5. I agree. I think they will sell well just because of the cartoon and all the brightly colored Lego bricks the sets come with, which kids will surely eat up. As for us adults, I think this theme leaves a lot to be desired... I just find it weird they have so much detailing on certain parts of the turtles (chipped shell on Ralph's torso, freckles on Mike's face, etc.), then they totally neglected other things like the elbow bands and different turtle coloring. I mean heck, even Leo and Don's shells have the shoulder strap extending to the back on their shell. Overall I feel like this line leaves a LOT to be desired for older fans. I absolutely hate the turtle van design, it looks like something from Mega bloks or something I would of made when I was 8.. just cheap and thrown together (I know the van is suppose to look pieced together, but there is a difference between looking like it was made with salvaged parts and looking like someone just threw on random pieces for no apparent reason). The figures also leave a lot to be desired and, as someone mentioned, I wish they would of just had a head mold that was connected to their shells rather than a separate shell "cape". This would of made their necks less intruding. The Splinter figure is by far the worse in my opinion though. He looks like a mix between an old woman, a chinese dragon, and a horse. I loved the tv show in the 80s and had tons of the action figures, but I don't see myself picking up a single one of these new Lego sets. Compared to say the LotR minifigures these just leave too much to be desired and I can defiantly tell they are aimed more at small children than AFOLs.
  6. Awesome! I love the actual thrones and the stained glass windows. Alsol, that queen looks devious.. lol.
  7. Nice little group you got there. It shows you put a lot of thought into the pieces you used for each.
  8. Here in the U.S. every store had it listed for pre-order with an expected release date of October 30th. Now most have it as Nov 14, but some sites haven't seemed to of updated their listing and still have it as Oct 30. I just wish they had one more joint in their legs for more movement. It wouldn't of made them much bigger and would of only required 8 more pieces total in the set yet would of doubled or tripled the range of movement for the spiders and not made them look so blocky and stiff. All well, it's a simple fix you can do yourself so not a big deal. I believe the press release said they were only showing off 2 of the Lego Hobbit sets at NYCC. I doubt we will get a ton of new details, if any, now that so much other info has hit over the past few days. As for the price to buy the complete dwarf company, CallMePie is right, it's around 290 USD. This is if you skip the Riddles for the Ring set which is the only one to not include any dwarves. I am sure you can also pick them up for 20% off if you wait a bit and look for deals which would bring the total down to $250 or so after taxes. Of course the cheapest option would be to just buy the minifigures each individially from eBay or Bricklink, you could probably save $100-150 that way. I just posted about a LotR/Hobbit battle pack in another thread. I can only imagine how big of a hit it would be considering how many Uruk-Hai Army sets people seem to be buying. That set's not even a real battle pack and is pretty pricey yet people are buying multiples and in some cases dozens. Why not replace Gandalf Arrives or Riddles in the Dark with a proper battle pack? Sure kids might not get a cheap option for main characters.. but with all the adults that would buy 20+ of them instead of only buying 1 Gandalf Arrives/Riddles set I think it would even out. As for the Barrel Escape set I think it's size is totally fine since the rest of the keep is hardly even mentioned in the book, and really only the jail and cellars are the focal point of all the action in that scene. Very nice! It makes me wonder how much better the real things would work if they had different color manes..? The brown also seems a little more pleasing than the boring gray and white we got (yes, I know the albino one is to represent the leader). Makes me wish we would of got 3 or even 4 Wargs... the two we already got and a brown and black one. If the timeline is anything like in the movies, the White Council doesn't meet until the middle/end of the book when the dwarves head into Mirkwood. That would mean the scene would probably take place during the second movie most likely.
  9. Very cool! I love all the damaged castle pieces.. the cracks in the wall, pieces crumbling off, etc. The catapults and tower on fire are also really amazing looking, and the details on everything add a ton to the diorama (like the orc on fire jumping off the tower!). The positionig of all the minifigures also adds a lot to the feel of the diorama with all the castle defenders streaming out and being surrounded by orcs. Again, very nice job! Big kudos!
  10. My last post was deleted when the site went down. Before that I said the Goblin King Battle would probably be my choice for favorite set. First off it has a good amount of minifigures with 3 goblins that are all totally different from each other, 3 dwarves, Gandalf, and of course the Goblin King who looks cool. The dwarves are probably my least favorite looking of the bunch, but that's ok considering what else the set has going for it. It looks to have a ton of play features and is the only set in The Hobbit wave (other than An Unexpected Journey) that looks like a full set and not several random parts floating in space. The Riddle, Spider, and Warg sets are nothing more than a few trees and rocks. Lastly the Goblin King Battle has a decent price at $99.99. I was fully expecting it to be around $119.99 considering it has almost as many minifigures as Helm's Deep and one of the figs is a huge new mold. Granted the piece count isn't terribly high, but it seems to have a lot of fun pieces in it so I was delightfully surprised by the price. Before I saw the sets I definetly thought the Attack of the Wargs would be my favorite. It's still a close runner up, but after seeing everything I think my list looks something more like this now: The Goblin King Battle < Barrel Escape < Attack of the Wargs < An Unexpected Gatheting < Escape from Mirkwood Spiders < Riddles for the Ring. I know a ton of people LOVE the Bag end set, but I am just not crazy about it. In case you havn't noticed, I love me some crazy creatures like goblins, orcs, wargs, etc. This is why I had high hopes for the Warg set, but after seeing it only had 2 Wargs instead of 3, no eagle, and wasn't an army builder by any stretch I was a bit dissapointed. Don't get me wrong, the set looks fantastic, I just wish it would of been done slightly different. Riddles for the Ring is clearly a distant last for me and I wish Lego would start using this price slot for something else, like a proper battle pack or army builder. It seems people are pretty lukewarm about the Gandalf Arrives and riddles for the Ring set since they obviously have to be simple and plain at such a low price point. However, I think an army builder with 3-4 minifigures and a catapult or small castle piece, or camp would sell amazingly. Look how many people snatched up dozens of Uruk-Hai Army sets and that set wasn't even a proper army builder and was fairly expensive. I know army builders might not be as popular among smaller children who these toys are aimed at.. but I can garuntee an army builder pack would probably make up for it with all the repeat copies people would buy. I know myself I would buy like 20 Gondor Soldier packs if they were done right, and 30 or so Mordor Orc ones! Anyways, sorry for the rant... Btw, I am not able to vote either.
  11. I saw that earlier. I figured $39.99 would be the lowest possible price point, and $59.99 being the max for the Barrel Escape. It probably has 3XX pieces and 5 minifigures... seems pretty good to me at $39.99. The only set that was a little more than I was expecting was the Mirkwood Spiders, which I thought would be $19.99 or $24.99 at the most. Then again it does have just under 300 pieces and is right around 12 cents per pieces with 4 minifigures which is average.
  12. I finally decided to get 7 Nazgul and 7 more black horses off of BL, as well as 4 more Moria Orcs to bring my total to an even 20.
  13. Too true, but he has the pictures now so I am just wondering where he found them all at...
  14. Where did you get all these pictures? I ask because it looks like you took them off the official Lego pages that haven't been revealed yet by changing the end of the page url, but when I tried to do it nothing came up. I ask because I was wondering if any more information was available where you got them? The elf names in the Barrel Escape set, the orc name(s?) in the Goblin King Battle, etc. Maybe even confirmation of prices or something? In the link I posted it list some of the names, the piece count, and the price of each set: www.groovebricks.com/lego-hobbit-2013-set-images/ It looks like the Goblin King Battle comes with a figure named "Scribe", who I have heard nothing about until now and i can only assume is the shorter of the goblins.
  15. Hey, that's 83 if you count the 2 Mordor Orcs and Lurtz! You kid, but my army probably pales in comparison to what some people have amassed by now. Heck, the person who started this thread had several more orcs than I currently do now and he had them months ago. I originally was only going to get 6, then 8, then 10 Uruk-Hai Army sets then some decent sales and such came along and I suddenly was up to 14. I would like one more and then I will be done for good... I think If there are some super good clearances later on I could see myself getting 5 or so more sets and bring my total to an even 20, but they would have to be 50%+ off. As is I am most happy with my Moria Orc army (which has grown by 4 more since these pictures). I haven't really seen any one going for them like I have people amassing Uruk-Hai armies so I thought it was a little more different and unique.
  16. I agree, baseplates would really pull the sets together. I imagine it's hard for Lego to recreate a majority of the sets though considering most take place in huge forests, valleys, caves, castles, or what have you. They only have a limited budget with each set and they have to fit a huge Goblin Town, for example, into a small-ish $100 package. Was that because he ONLY had long orc ears though, or because they were trying to portray one of the orcs that had very tiny, human sized ears? Regardless I think Yazneg looks pretty poor for a minifigure and it seems many others agree. I am fine with a minifig being bald and having no cap, for instance Dwalin who I have no complaints about. If they didn't give Yaznegm ears maybe they could of at least made his cowl look better and made it extend down his shoulders/arms a bit, or gave him some printing on his arms to better match how he looks in the movie? All of the other figures look so good it's just a disappointment to see Yazneg. Of all the dwarves I think Bifur really stands out as the best looking. Not only did Lego include the axe in his head, his bread has printing on it as well. This really makes me wonder why they didn't print the braids on Gloin, who doesn't look near as good in comparison. Oin looks like he probably could of just used a single color for his hair and beard rather than have them be two seperate colors (it looks like one color in deskp's photo). Some of the dwarves could of probably used beard molds, but I understand Lego deciding to cut some cost and just print them when the beards are relatively short and they already have a huge number of special pieces for the wave already.
  17. What are you talking about? Plenty of bald characters have caps as long as there is something else on their head that needs to be represented. There are a couple Star Wars characters with them such as Saesee Tiin, and even a few characters in the very same Hobbit wave with the orcs in the Golbin King Battle set! I think they could of easily given Yazneg a cap since his ears are fairly big, much bigger than any of the elven ears yet they all have hair with large ears on them. You mean Ori... Oin is the one in the Barrel Escape set with Gloin, he has the light gray hair in a pony tail.. nothing like Ron Weasley's hair.
  18. Right, but I guess the issue is this seems to be a medieval castle based on the soldiers he has on it and the grassy environment, not a Middle East one, and also the house in the middle is the same color as the tower/walls. I'm not saying the color looks bad, it's just different. Maybe if he had used some darker pieces on the wall and tower like he did the house it would help? All the same this is very good for a 10 year old!
  19. I realize they are the proper color (for the most part). I am not knocking Lego for more or less just sticking to the source material, I am knocking PJ for changing the look of the goblins in the first place. Though I guess he probably just made the goblins more motley and random this time around like the orcs were in LotR. I acknowledged this and hence the vast majority of my post talking about how I liked the current orc/goblin designs. At least some of the goblins are a green color like before, but apparently none of them were used for the Lego sets this time around.. like this guy: As for Yazneg, I know he doesn't have or need any hair, as many orcs don't, but how can you say he doesn't have any ears when he clearly does? Maybe they aren't as long as some of the goblins/orcs (I realize they vary in length and some don't even have them), but they are DEFINITELY longer than any of the elves, and ALL the elves have the same ears in flesh color: I think, as is, Yazneg is one of the worst looking minifigies in the LotR or Hobbit line. If they had given him a head cap I think he would have looked significantly better.
  20. Where did you find all these pictures at anyways? Not really. They at least changed the orcs up a little with the different leg print, and gave both of them the hair/ear pieces this time (though they didn't give the leader in the set one... ). They also have totally new orcs in the Goblin King set (and three of them at that), so I can't complain too much. Actually I am glad we are getting such a huge variety, while still keeping some similar as this will make my Mordor Orc/Goblin army much better looking. Right now I have the Moria Orcs, a couple slightly different Mordor Orc variations, and the Goblin King set Orcs. The Mordor Orcs haven't been used much either yet so I am fine with them using them again. A little old, a little new this time around. What would of ticked me off is had they used the Mordor Orcs for both Hobbit sets and not changed them at all. What DOES annoy me is all the orcs seem to be the tannish brown color rather than green.
  21. What the heck!? This line get's a cavalry builder set, but the LotR/Hobbit lines don't get any proper army builders after 2 waves? The closest thing we got is the Uruk-Hai Army set which has a huge wall and catapult and is double what a normal army builder set would cost. How lame If Lego would make a couple army builders for the LotR or Hobbit lines I can only imagine how well they would do. People already are buying dozens of Uruk-hai Army sets just for the figures. I can only imagine they would buy double, triple, or even quadruple that amount if it were a proper army builder. I know I would!
  22. Pretty interesting technique. The choice of colors is a bit odd. I usually don't imagine castles or towers that sort of tan/beige. How old is your brother btw?
  23. It's been a few months since I last posted my LotR army pictures. Since my last post in this thread got erased with the site crash/roll back, I figured I would post them again. These are my current armies, each almost double what I had last time I posted. Rohan Army: Goblin and Troll Army: Uruk-hai Army: Full Evil Army: I don't have any weapons in their hands because I am still in transition with a move and have not unpacked everything as of yet. Also not pictured are 2 uponened Orc Forge sets.
  24. The following site has set prices, minifigure names, and piece counts for all the sets except The Unexpected Gathering and Barrel Escape (which is a shame because the Barrel set is the one I am most unsure of the price, and the elf names would be nice!). http://www.groovebricks.com/lego-hobbit-2013-set-images/ It appears most of the sets are priced right where we thought, with Mirkwood Spiders being the only exception at $29.99 instead of $19.99-24.99. I guess that is to be expected though with it's decent piece count which is a little over 40 more than the Uruk-Hai Army came with (though 2 less minifigures and no horse). Riddles for the Ring seems to be a MUCH better deal than Gandalf Arrives what with 105 pieces (almost 20 more) and costing 3 less dollars. Then again it doesn't have a horse mold so I am sure that really upped the cost of Gandalf Arrives. The rest of the sets are pretty much exactly what everyone was expecting, and so are the figures. The only exceptions being that flesh colored orc is supposedly Azog in the Warg set, and I assume the "short" goblin in the Goblin King Battle is Scribe. I'm not sure if that is correct or not, especially since Azog is dead long before The Hobbit ever takes place.. but then again maybe PJ changed it so he dies in the Warg scene instead? I have also heard The Unexpected Gathering will retail for $69.99. The person who made this claim said it was revealed through a game contest, but he never supplied any links and I couldn't find anything myself after searching the internet so take that for what you will. I will say though $69.99 seems much more realistic than the earlier quoted $59.99, I mean you get 6 minifigures, tons and tons of food pieces and accessories, and nearly a full hobbit hole!
  25. At one point or another, yes. Before that one ring was held be the elven king Gil-galad. His was given to Elrond after he died. Círdan, Gil-galad's lieutenant also bore one of the rings but it was later passed to Gandalf. Galadriel possesed her ring the entire time.
