  1. No, I haven't made neither the Dutchman nor the Endeavour so far. Honestly I never liked the Flying Dutchman's design and thus I'm not keen on building it. But I could image to build the Endeavour in the future (although it should be difficult to downsize a first rate ship of the line so that in terms of size the official Lego sets wouldn't look too ridiculous when standing side by side). Best regards, Wellington
  2. Thank's for your reply. You're right that the ship is a bit out of proportions but it had to match roughly the length of my MOD/MOC of the Lego-BP and thus it had to be at least a bit shorter than the BP. Furthermore both ships are a bit like caricatures of the real ones. Here's an LDD-Image of my beloved BP MOD/MOC (which will be improved in the future). But nevertheless I'm really considering to trade off the lenght difference between the two ships for better balanced proportions of the Interceptor. Best regards, Wellington
  3. Ahoy everyone! I want to show you my version of the HMS Interceptor from POTC. This moc is intended to match in approximate proportions the official Lego-sets (rather than being a MOC in minifig illusion scale). My aim was also to not use a too excessive amount of pieces. Anyway I tried to use some ship-building techniques which can be seen here in the forum and I'm quite satisfied with the result so far. Until now I can only show you the LDD-images, more detailed pictures will follow when the ship is built in real bricks. What would the ship be without a crew. Commodore Norrington is also already aboard. Comments und tips for improvement are always welcome. Kind regards, Wellington
  4. Thank's for all replies. I built the original BP-set with LDD and made comparison-shots. I edited them in my first post. Best regards, Wellington
  5. Changes involve: - curved shape of the ship - new stern design / new design of the galleries - new prow and improoved headrails, authentic positioning of the figurehead - a simple deck has been added to the side of the ship (similar to the BSB) - correct positioning of the mizzen mast Please compare the original to the pictures above. For the original ship see at http://www.geekalerts.com/lego-pirates-of-the-caribbean-black-pearl-4184/ It's hard to make close-up shots with LDD of the particlar sections. I'll give you closer pictures when the real thing is finished Best regards, Wellington
  6. [pid][/pid] LDD 11A Hello everyone! Always when I was looking at my official Lego Black Pearl I got the feeling that I need to rework and change it... although it's a cute ship in some way. I made a MOC of the Black Pearl and used the basic design of the official set but tried to make it more accurate and detailed. I used the official set as the base so that it wouldn't look completely out of place alongside the BB or the IFS. Until now there are only screenshots of the LDD availble but I will start the work on the real thing as soon as I have the pieces. The current piece count is 970. EDIT: I made Comparison-images of the LDD-models of my MOC/MOD and the set before it was modified: old MOC/MOD old MOC/MOD old MOC/MOD Comments and tips for improvements are always welcome! Best regards, Wllington
  7. Thank's for all your kind comments! I've been a bit busy but I promise the Wicked Wench will get her sails soon. So expect some new pictures. Best regards, Wellington
  8. Helle everyone! Thank's for the replies. @Admiral Croissant: Yes, I added catheads but they are maybe hard to see because they're also brown. Now I want to share some new pictures with you. I've updated the stern of the ship and the rigging is now almost completed thus it won't be long until the Wicked Wench can finally set sail. Replies, comments and suggestions for improvement are always welcome! Best regards, Wellington
  9. Hello everyone! Here's an update of the Wicked Wench. I've started to add the rigging and although it's not finished yet I wanted to share some pictures with you: Replies and comments are welcome! Best regards, Wellington
  10. @Thee Pirate: I'm glad you like the ship. In fact the pictures of the videogame-BP were like a pattern/orientation for me in terms of approximate size/shape etc. The Wicked Wench is rather loosely based on the videogame-BP but was heavily inspired by it. Before I started to build the Wicked Wench I read Captain Greenhair's tutorial "Build a frigate" which was extremely helpful. @Perfectionist: Thank's for your advice. I already realized that the masts are too tall (although the picture makes the masts look taller than they actually are). Since I took the last picture I've already shortened the masts but they still are a bit above the ratio you mentioned. It certainly gives me the opportunity to give her a good amount of sails. Best regards, Wellington
  11. Thank's for all the kind words. Currently I'm focused to finish the Wicked Wench but who knows what I'll do after it. We'll see. Best Regards, Wellington
  12. I'm happy that you like the ship. Here are two pictures showing the bow with the masts: Best Regards, Wellington
  13. Hello my friends! I've done some work on the deck and the masts. Now they are at their future position on the deck. Best Regards, Wellington
  14. Hallo maties! I've done some work on the Wicked Wench. I've done some improvements on the ships bow. Hope you like it. Let's take a look at the picture: Best regards, Wellington
  15. Thank's to all for the many positive replies. Currently I'm waiting for my bricklink order to continue the work but I'll keep you all updated. Best regards, Wellington
  16. Thank you all for the many kind answer. In fact there are two ships called "Wicked Wench" on the internet. The one ship is which Admiral Croissant posted and the second one is the Black Pearl before she was burnt. Here are two links for the latter:Link 1 and Link 2. That's why the galleries are "higher" (just like the Black Pearl has). I'm planing to position a tag with the ship's name onto the space beneath the galleries. But thank's for the feedback. Best regards, Wellington.
  17. Thank you! I'm glad you like the ship. I've resized the images now. Best regard's, Wellington
  18. I posted a version of the Black Pearl before she was burnt by Cutler Beckett. It's still a WIP and it was heavily inspired by the Black Pearl that could be seen in the LEGO video game. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=61183 Best Regards, Wellington
  19. Ship Ahoy! I present my first serious WIP. It's the EITC-Ship "Wicked Wench"...better known as the "Black Pearl" before she was burnt by Cutler Beckett. The ship was heavily inspired by the Black Pearl which can be seen in the POTC LEGO-Video-Game and pictures of the Wicked Wench I found on the internet. Remember it's a WIP and there's still a lot of work to be done but I couldn't resist to post some preliminary images. Enough words! Let's take a look at the first pictures! First of all a view from the portside The ship's bow The stern Now I positioned the masts at their future position Another angular shot from the stern with the masts I hope you enjoyed the first pictures! Replies and comments are welcome! Best Regards, Wellington Edit: The pictures are now resized.
  20. Somehow it was predictable that the POTC-theme wouldn't live up the expectations. POTC is a movie for ages 12+ and TLC designed sets (IMO) for ages 6-12 (which were quite expensive). They simply missed their target-group. Let's stop seeing things through rose-colored glasses: TLC blew the theme. For me the BP-thread was quite interesting because it clearely showed some misconceptions. The target group of a POTC-movie are ages 12+. Now let's look how TLC-sets for ages 12+ usually look like: IFS, Medieval market village etc. Yes, these sets are expensive but they are worth one's salt. The POTC are expensive but too simple, it is too visible how TLC tried to cut corners...they are designed as if they were for young children. The excuse "lego is basically a toy for children" cannot be used in a theme for ages 12+. Best regards, Wellington
  21. I'd really like to know how the kids (ages 8-14) rate the BP (overall and i.e. compared to the BB). Best regards, Wellington
  22. Oh My Goddess! Is that really the BP or is it a MOC? This set is awful! Current prices in the Eurozone (which I found) range from about 90 to 130 Euro (equals 130 to 187 USD). That's shockingly expensive for such a horrible set. I'm really shocked!
  23. Actually the stern of the QAR was much easier to make than the BP's stern. They simply used a tent to cover the side area of the QAR-stern...clever and it looks good and accurate. But the BP doesn't give them this chance...instead the real ship has a slope shape plus the window corona which are together quite complicated to replicate with just a minimum amount of pieces. If you take a closer look at the Lego-BP you will see that TLC used a similar technique for the stern-sidewalls as the RBR had...but right now TLC has no stern-piece for their pirate ships and that makes stern-constructions even more complicated (in general). I can't understand why they didn't design a proper stern-piece for their new pirate ships. This whole mess started with the BB and has been permanently criticised. For a good set not only a good colour-scheme is needed but also a good style. The Lego-BP definitely lacks the latter. Maybe the BP-set will be useful as foundation for a good MOC-BP...we'll see when we get a piece-listing. Best regards, Wellington
  24. Well, it was almost certain that this Black Pearl will be a failed set. In fact it was a wrong dicision to release a Black Pearl (with a low piece count) this year. It would've been more sensible to release the HMS Interceptor instead. Why? It's smaller than the BP/QAR, the afterdeck of the ship is way lower...simply it has a much less complicated design than the BP, resulting in a lower piece count. Even the minifigs don't make sense. Davy Jones, Bootstrap and that fish-guy all belong to the Dutchman. Instead there should be Gibbs, the guy with the parrot, Barbossa, the small guy and/or Elisabeth. Well, I hope that they'll release an "exclusive" Black Pearl...maybe that'll be worth buying it. Best regards. Wellington
  25. I tried to compare the pics of the AF with those of historic spanish tall ships. I must admit that the (overall) shape does correspond with spanish carracks (e.g. Santa Maria)...although it is simplified of course. But the colour scheme of the ship is simply horrible!
