A few months ago, I tried my hand at creating a few minifig decal designs. There's no rhyme or reason to them except a few theme-specific areas: Half-Life 2, Dragon Quest, along with a few generic ones for the most part, with an emphasis on female decals... Which I feel official LEGO sets could definitely use more of. I haven't had the best of luck actually producing them due to some pretty bland white decal paper, but I've still had fun just creating them. It certianly is an interesting task to LEGOify a "real world" design like this... It really makes me appreciate both official LEGO minifig designers and folks like Kaminoan. Decal gallery I think the one applied decal I'm fairly happy with is Angelo, from Dragon Quest 8. I haven't had time to try printing his jacket in any other colors, but I'd love to try creating his decal in other colors for some Castle factions I'm working on. Ahh yes, I can see the resemblance. And actually, I really like that vehicle and would like to try a smaller transport vehicle based on it

Thanks very much for all the comments guys, it means a lot to me that you've taken the time to post with what you do and don't like. Starwars4J: You know, that is a very good question about the roof opening on hinges... I honestly don't know why I chose that over a lift-off type. I think I was already in the mindset of the back door so my brain just went with that for the top too, but now that you mention it I think I'd like it better if it were a closer seam without those hinge bricks. I think I'll go back and look into that. Brainbox: You're right, a lot of the shape has to do with those chunky side bits. I honestly don't know how I could've gotten away with side doors. ;) The bulky sloped sides are what the frame of the Kodiak is built around and trying to get them to open up there probably would've compromised the structure more than I would've liked. As for what it reminds you of, a lot of people over at Classic-Space are saying it's like an RV or motorhome. AS much as it pains me to point out, perhaps that's it? xenologer: Regarding the construction of the sloping sides, it's based on these parts: + + The 2x1 finger brick is attached to the floor, the Technic pin comes up from it an angle, the 1x1 brick hole hooks into the pin, and the sides are attached to the 1x1 hole brick. There are two of these "arm" assemblies on each half of the Kodiak, with the long plates attached to form the sloped sides. It's a personal preference, but I really don't like parts like steering mechanisms and rotating turrets in official sets and that carries through to what I build. The fact that more often than not pieces like that won't stay where I want them to stay, I think, is what gets me. I'd much rather than everything "in its place" than having wheels turning or guns swinging around every time I pick a MOC up. Capn Kirk 911: A lot of my troop parts I already had, but I did have to make a Bricklink order more torsos and visors. The black visors are just these parts (transorange) spraypainted black. I've put together about a dozen of those black soldiers and have enough parts to make around forty-five. One of my planned future UMC projects is a base of some sort for all those soldiers to hang out in. m19

I finally got around to solidifying an idea that'd been floating around in my head for a while. Ever since building the Swallowtail for FBTB's B-Wing contest, I've wanted to revisit the near-future United Martian Commonwealth (UMC) universe I'd started with that MOC. The idea of doing an APC-type vehicle, but not one that looks like it's from Aliens, popped into my head a few weeks back. I worked on this model from Wednesday until today, spending about twenty hours total buliding, redesigning, tweaking, and taking/editing pictures. I had a few goals in mind while building: 1) Create a wheeled ground vehicle (which would be my first). 2) Create a MOC with a defined interior. 3) Have space for a "crew', meaning the ability to carry troops onboard and have more than one driver up front. 4) Create a MOC that's more complex than just a brick or two thick-- my voidfighter, for example, was basically a single plate's thickness with a brick on the top and bottom. I wanted to make something more tangible. All in all, I really do love how the Kodiak turned out and am very proud of it. I think I accomplished all the things I set out to do from the above list, and I've definitely gotten back into a MOCing mood. I'm especially looking forward to creating more UMC-themed models to compliment the Kodiak and Swallowtail. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UMC's BTR-960 Kodiak (HIFV, Heavy Infantry Fighting Vehicle) - Main Brickshelf gallery - Schematics - Deeplinks: 3/4 Front | Front | Side | 3/4 Rear | Underside | Ramp extended | Loaded in | Up front | Ready to go | Personnel ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Comments, questions, suggestions, and critiques are all welcome. I wanted to gauge if there was any interest for Magic: the Gathering cards here. I have around 1,300 M:tG cards, beginning from back around the Revised era (1995ish, maybe?) and a few years after that that've been sitting in storage for years, and was wondering if there's anyone here who still plays and might want to trade them for LEGO. The cards include Revised, 4th Edition, Chronicles, Antiquities, Legends, The Dark, Fallen Empires, Ice Age, Homelands, Alliances, Mirage, and a few cards signed by the artists. You can view a PDF list of exactly what cards I have here. I don't really have any specific "wants", so that's really wide open: that being said, I am interested in Castle and Star Wars LEGO, any minifigs, and minifig accessories but I'll entertain any offers. I have all positive eBay, Amazon, and BL feedback if you need references and am located in Virginia (USA). Please leave a note here and PM me if you're interested. m19

Someone had linked to a Brickshelf gallery on page 3 with what sounded like more pictures, but I just get a "not found" error with the link. Is there another gallery somewhere that has those images, or were they just the same ones as page 1's post? m19

Is it too much to ask to leave out the needless bashing, please? It's not that difficult to just leave that little bit of pessimism off your post before hitting submit. m19

I really love "sealed deck" alternate building, using only pieces from official sets. Being tight on space, I've discovered that having to work only with certain pieces can be a heck of a lot of fun: it's especially neat to take an existing model and see what I can do to "add" to it. In that vein, I'd like to show my alternate 8100 - Cyclone Defender model. I was a tad disappointed with LEGO's new EF wave: the mechs look pretty anorexic and not at all battle-worthy, so I thought I'd see what I could do to "beef up" the Cyclone. So with two 8100s in hand, I sat down one afternoon and tinkered for a half hour or so. Here's the official model: And here's my take, using only the pieces (with one exception*) from two copies of 8100. I know it's not the fanciest or most complex of MOCs, but I'm very proud of how nice it turned out compared to the scrawny original: (*The one exception is a custom dark green hood that I'd whipped up for another project.) m19

I'd say BatP, too. The design is pretty good if you can manage to combine it with other sets or put one or two other BatPs together to make a larger structure. As for the yellow being gaudy, that's easy enough to replace-- it's only in a few pieces. And how can you argue with that many figs? ;) m19

FBTB moderator and Brickish Association member bluemoose was kind enough to get in touch with me a couple months back about putting my entry for FBTB's B-Wing alternate model contest, the Swallowtail, up on display at the Milton Keyes LEGO store, over in the UK, as part of their "Window into the Community" project for the month of July. Bluemoose built up a Swallowtail using my instructions and recently sent me a few photos of the final installation. This is a first for me, so I was thrilled not only to be asked in the first place but to actually see the final setup, considering it's an entire ocean away. Just goes to show that LEGO is truly a global connection between all of us. Again, a big big thanks to bluemoose for being kind enough to offer this opportunity and snapping the pictures. Quoted because it was worth repeating-- it's NOT just a Firefox bug. m19

It appears that it's just Firefox. I'm on my work Mac and I'm having the problem on Firefox 1.5 but not IE 5.2 or Safari 1.3.2. At home on my PC I know it happens on Firefox but I don't use any other browser there to check against. I double-checked the goofy posts through IE, where they display properly, and they don't seem to have anything in common that's triggering the glitch. At first I thought maybe it was any post that had a quote in it, but then found some that didn't have a quote and were broken or do have a quote and work fine. m19

Well now that we've verified it's at least more than one member having this problem, does any EB staff have any what's going on? It can make browinsg threads incredibly frustrating at times. m19
-
Does it by any chance look like this, where there's basically an empty post and the button graphics are shifted around? I've been seeing that it seems at least once in every thread since the recent board revisions. I was going to ask about it and figured that might be what you're experiencing as well...? m19

Would like to buy/trade for 7035's ATV vehicle
Morgan19 posted a topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Hey guys! I'm a regular over at FBTB and was pointed to Eurobricks with this request, so I'm hoping someone can help me out. This might sound odd, but would anyone be willing to trade their ATV vehicle from 7035 (Police HQ)? I'm talking about the tank-looking vehicle in the lower-right corner of this image: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?S=7035-1 I'm just interested in acquiring the ATV, not the rest of the station or minifigs. If anyone's interested, please PM me! Thanks very much! m19
