  1. Ok, I get it. It was just... Maybe it had to be from the original books, y'know. You've got the original characters: Harry, Ron, etc. and you've got your custom minifigs. A better word would be custom I think, but it's your choice. Anyway, still love it. ;)
  2. Yeaah! Harry Potter Month II! I love it. If I understand it correctly we have to make a character from the books/movie, right? Or does 'original' mean 'made-up'?
  3. Haha, thanks, I guess I was pretty wrong there! :p
  4. Definitely Romans. I actually don't understand LEGO still hasn't started this theme! We're talking about it for this long. And it has such potential! Hmm... I think the Spartan figure in the minifigures set means we're not getting a Greek theme. But maybe a Roman theme is still possible. (Or did we get a Roman too?)
  5. I see something in the MIB theme, but only because a new film is coming out soon. Otherwise no-one would buy it. Don't see it happening unfortunately anyway. :( Narnia could be a cool theme too, but I'm afraid Narnia is not popular enough. The second film kind of flopped, right? I don't know, build-wise it would be cool though! The best theme I would think of is Asterix & Obelix (actually it's just called Asterix). There are amazing buildings (in the village and the roman camp) and endless possibilities for playing. It's the innocent beat-the-Roman up playing I would love it! Though, Asterix is old and not so popular anymore :( maybe if a new film comes out once. But there are endless possibilities with this theme!
  6. I'd love to see Sirius in the Knight Bus set. But one set we still lack, and we really (!!!) need in the HP theme is Grimmauldplace 12! It would include Kreacher, Sirius and Harry. Maybe Ron and Hermione too. It doesn't have to be big. I would imagine it as this: Overall - First level from the ground: kitchen, with table, fireplace and some kind of Kreacher's place.Four pillars, no wall. - Second level from the ground (Ground floor in the building): The hall. Not too long, with some kind of chandelier on the ceiling and stairs to second level. - Third level: bedroom. The family tree, as a print or sticker. A couch where the trio sleeps on in DH. Possibly Regulus' bedroom, but since it makes a small appearance in the movie this is not necessary. Outside - Facade: steps up to a door. Fence-piece for the underground kitchen as a window. Hope we'll get one!
  7. I actually think Aladdin would sell better than Prince of Persia! Even though the setting is pretty similar (I think) you can play a lot more with Aladdin and his monkey (sorry don't know his name) Abu and the villain Jafar (Mustafar right? :p). However, kind of what everyone says, children who don't know the movies as good as our older generation will probably not buy it as quick. They would buy something, especially from the 'renaissance' period like Aladin and Lion King, but less from movies like Snowwhite (although for builders that would be epic too!). But most children only know Finding Nemo (also great by the way) and Toy Story (well we've got that one). Ok, this post is a bit messy. What I want to say is that I love the idea, and I think it has potential. It depends on how LEGO and Disney would approach it. It would probably be a moderate succes. Jan.
  8. Exactly! I first thought: "cool phonebooth!" But then it moved down, I didn't expect it either. Very cool MOC. I like the build itself, it terms of details and looks. But the best is of course the ingenious mechanism! Kudos to you ;-) High chances to win the contest!
  9. I agree with the above posters: Tower is good, I would make the interior a bit more sober though. And by the way, photohraphy adds a lot to the chances you make in the contest. Try to see if you have a "macro" function on your camera. (Often the symbol if a flower.) That helps with close-ups. But these are just tips for you to easily improve it a lot. I'm not saying it's bad! All in all, it's a good MOC!
  10. Thanks everyone for the reactions! :D As for finishing whole Hogwarts: it was my initial plan, before I started on this one. However, only the Hall took already a lot of time and money, and think of the big tower in the middle (The so-called Grand Staircase Tower)... It would just be too much. However, I am considering building Hogwarts in Microscale. That would be realistic and doable. Want to keep all the details in however. So that's one you might see in the following months (yes I'm that slow). :) (PS: Everyone may use this idea, if it's not already used before, if he/she wants to!) And some other Harry Potter themed MOCs may come too in near future! Anyway, stay tuned! :-) J / Mr.Brick
  11. Wow, very cool! I didn't know that there exist black Scout Trooper helmets! Or is custom? I love the headlight, very nice touch to end the 'tip' of the bike. Lots of details. Good work.
  12. LEGO Harry Potter's Hogwarts: The Great Hall Hello everyone! In this topic I present my most ambitious MOC, The Great Hall from Hogwarts. Introduction It took quite a lot of time to build this MOC. It was a big project, in terms of size, time, effort and money. I first made a "dummy" Great Hall, made of the right bricks but in random colors. After that, I counted all the bricks I needed and ordered them in tan and other colors on Bricklink. As noted before, I am a builder of the past generation. I bought (and recieved) LEGO actively in the 90's and the first half of 2000's. I miss a lot of 'new' pieces, for example the cheese slopes and flesh minifigs. The construction is pretty good, although the roof is a tad unstable. Also, the tower misses a roof, unfortunately. But all with all, I think this is one of the best MOCs I've made. Please take a tour: Pictures Here you see a view on the Hall from behind. The well-known windows behind the teachers' table worked out pretty well I think. This is the Great Hall in all of its glory. Here we see the main entrance to the Great Hall. Those who have read "Hogwarts: A History" (You still haven't?!) or have seen the muggle movies may know that the courtyard in front of the Great Hall only appears from movie 5 on. I however used the Prisoner of Azkaban game (PS2) as a reference (yes I've spent some hours on the back of a hippogriff bumping the walls and roof in the game) and back then the Great Hall ended in this kind of building. My goal was to copy the Great Hall in LEGO as precise and detailed possible, at least from the outside. That means that the amount of columns for example are the same as in the game and thus, I believe, the same as in the movie. You will, however, notice some (smaller and bigger) flaws here and there. Some missing pieces (picture above). This is also partly due to the fact that this MOC is between a year and two old, and during some movings part fell of or broke down. An owl's peek through the window. We can see some students at their respective House tables. Although the building is pretty big from the outside (and minifig scale on the outside, as far as I could compare with the game: one column = a person in width, etc.) it is unfortunately way too tight from the inside. This results in the students sitting on the... yes... ground, I know. Shame on me. But never mind, you can't almost see the interior from the outside anyway! :P Another note: I love Harry Potter LEGO, but I didn't buy/get any sets since Chamber of Secrets. Therefore my minifigs are still yellow! And also therefore I miss some modern pieces like the flames for the torches. Ron: "Hedwig! Come down! If Harry doesn't let me borrow you anymore I'll have to use Errol! *Sigh*" On this picture we can see the devestating result of an escaped Blast-Ended Skrewt of Hagrid. The vicious beast climbed up to the tower and set it on fire. Until today, the tower has not been restored yet. The reality is that I couldn't find the proper roofpieces in the right size, and I was kind of done with this project. The interior of the Great Hall. We can see that the scale is not completely correct here, but at least it has four walls and a roof, something which most Great Hall MOC's (and official sets) still lack. :) Ron: "Sorry, no muggle cameras in Hogwarts! I'm afraid you'll have to leave!" Conclusion MOCpages: http://mocpages.com/moc.php/245166 (No Brickshelf or Flickr page available.) Please let me know what you think! Thanks for watching! Jan / Mr.Brick
  13. Yeah, It'll will probably be just a play set, not a real build set (like Diag.All. is).
  14. Very nice! Great idea for the contest, by the way. I recognized Slytherin somehow before I read it in the description. I love the way you made the 'corridor' to the basement, with the descending arches. Good work!
  15. Me too! I didn't expect them to continue it, but luckily they do! The Knight Bus is a strange choice for a remake, since the original was very good, I think. It also doesn't have a big role in the series, let alone the last movie(s). But it probably has a high playability value which matters most for the younger audience. Battle of Hogwarts could literaly become anything, and the Forest too. I see the last one as a forest scene with Harry, Hagrid and Voldemort. Maybe Grawp but probably not. In that way, you can play a few different HP scenes, since it mostly features Harry + Hagrid. I hope they will later add Grimmauld Place, since it is pretty important in the series and is perfect to make in LEGO. Other things might be 4, Privet Drive again (with cupboard this time) and a camping scene. I would love to see a Chamber of Secrets remake, since it will feature in the last movie too. (Basilisk + Basilisk skeleton! :D) J
  16. Wow! That's really beautiful! Especially the interior is amazing. I would be suprised if you won't end up as one of the winners.
  17. Wicked! This will force me to build Harry Potter sets once again! Too bad it must be outside of Hogwarts, since I've already built the Great Hall on minifig scale once... :) But Diagon Alley... O_O Or the other sets... I MUST participate!
  18. I am glad Harry Potter finally gets some recognition by the rest of the LEGO community! :)
  19. Count me in too! Is my avatar OK?
  20. I like the snitch most of everything! It's amazing, why didn't LEGO use the shoulder-things as wings?! Anyhow, great set and nice Harry Potter spinoff! edit: oh, there's so much detail I've missed the bludger coming through the tower: very funny. Is it the "Queerditch" by the way (=> the swamp where, according to JKR, quidditch origined) or is it just a funny coincidience?

    City '09?

I don't know if it has been posted already, but the "2009" City Horse trailer is able for ordering on the Toys'r'us-website. http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3245130 - Horse trailer: $24,99 Also, the (presumably limited edition) Shipwreck Hideout is order-able too: $39.99 http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3245132
  22. Maybe some kind of Robin-Hoodlike subtheme in Castle. But instead of robbing the rich (which would be the king) they would be robbing the bad (the skeleton army). Two examples: a set with some kind of carriage of the skeleton faction (all bony and freaky, black and red of course) with stolen jewels etc., a tree and three 'robbers'. a set with the hideout for the robbers (don't know a better word for them) with some larger trees, bridges connetcing them and maybe something else. edit: a bit like the forestmen (sub)theme from long ago :-)
  23. I'm curious what themes LEGO is considering to do. I'm still yay-ing my Homelife-theme, but I've seen some which were very good too. What about for Castle, a set where you have this cave, and a dragon, a knight, and maybe something else. The Knight has to defeat or 'tame'/befriend the dragon. I think it can be a very fun set to play and to build. The player can decide whether the knight kills (well, "defeats") it, or jumps on it and flies away to fight the skeletons. You can do much with dragons in LEGO sets :-) I don't know, it could be fun. Yes! I thoght of this to, but I kinda forgto it then. It's agreat idea. I'm just afraid LEGO thinks it's not popular enough out of Europe, but I personally think this would be amazing. This way, LEGO can use the Roman set, but without the confronting war-and-death-theme, since the Romans in Asterix are only punched knock-out. The Roman camp ans the Village would be the opposites of eachother (sorry for crappy grammar), and boar-hunt for example (with one or two romans) could be a small set, like the size of rebeltransport or so. By the way, fathers (and mothers maybe) have probably read Asterix themselves alot, so parent wouldn't be hard to convince to buy. (They would convince their children instead :P) This could be a very good theme, if LEGO would consider it though...
  24. I'm in for sure! Nice polybags :-p
