  1. My wife got me my first grab bag from Sherway Gardens, Toronto. Cost was $10.99 CDN and fill 2 large PAB cups loosely. Here are the pieces layed out. Good mix of blocks, plates, tiles and special parts. There were a lot of dark blue outside corner slopes as well as studs. Some Technic pieces: Some special pieces including a Ninja type minifig, blue pants, sword, telescope, long jousting pole?, truck exhaust pipe, shovel, fire, cabinet and fenders. I have never seen that tan 1x2 brick with the brick pattern on the side. Too bad it was only one piece. My daughters will like the pink plate. I have no idea what that red pipe on the right would be for. anyone? Overall it's a great deal. Looking forward to getting more in the future. There were 7 packages left as of last night.
  2. Thanks for the post. They look great. If you are interested in adding a road, here is a neat tutorial to add a baseplate in a unique way as opposed to just placing it in front of the modulars. It might work well considering your limited space: http://youtu.be/n9hmj3Z-qKI
  3. Thanks for all the suggestions. Still a work in progress, but here are some pics: Town Hall and main street. There is a family moving into the Pet Store apartment and a wedding taking place at the town hall: More of the main street. When my kids want to play I flip the modulars 180 degrees so they can access the front from the edge of the table: The end of the main street across the train tracks leads to the train station: View from the end of the city: Beach resort for some R&R: We have a ski resort as well as a skate park. The kids put together an animal climic which serves as an outdoor doctor's office until we get a proper hospital: View from the other side where the City Corner is located: Here are the houses: Oh no! The house is on fire! At least it's not too far from the fire department. That's it for now.
  4. Brickset indicates that it's last available date is March 5, 2012 in Canada and the US. Still available in the UK. http://brickset.com/detail/?set=10197-1
  5. Hi there, So I have updated my layout. I just finished assembling the Town Hall and wanted the main street to lead up to it. I also moved the green roads to the outside and the grey ones to the center (Urban vs country). I kept the tracks the same as I think I'm pretty limited with the space and quantity of track I have. I also like having the modulars sort of close to the edge. I rotate them 180 degrees when my kids want to play so they can pull up a chair to the edge and play really close. Pics to follow soon.
  6. Not the best packing, but I'm happy to get my fences as well as the brown 1x4 tiles. I've made some park benches and it will become nice hardwood flooring. Tile and fences are really hard to pack well, so was the horse. I did an analysis of cost from PAB on line as well as bricklink. Overall a pretty good deal for $20 CDN plus tax. And double VIP points too. Canadian Eh?

Hi there, I'm in the Toronto area and will be purchasing the new Town Hall Modular (10224). It's $250 CDN or $200 US. I was wondering how to get the best deal on this model? Will be taking a trip to the US next month, but wondering if it's worth it to wait and get it from the US. Currently Lego is offering double VIP points until March 15, so that may be an extra $12.50 in Lego credits. Our dollar is now higher than the US. I wish TLG would adjust the currency differenes to be more fair. Anyone else interested in this model and what are your plans to get the best deal? Apoligize if this is the wrong forum for it, but I think it's a very Canadian issue on how were are gouged with high retail prices for Lego.
  8. Thinking of getting this: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/New-Clear-Minifigure-Lego-Wall-Display-Case-Holds-48-100-Dust-Proof-/320844106750?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ab3cc8bfe It holds 36 with stands and 48 without stands The also have a larger one that hols 72 with stands and 96 without stands I like that it has a cover to keep dust off. I think it's also cheaper than creating a custom lego built one.
  9. Thanks. I'm in the GTA . I will post some photos of my layout when I get the chance.
  10. Nice haul STIG. Must have taken a whole to stack the 1x1 rounds, but effort seems to have paid off.
  11. Yeah, I'm struggling to get a water feature into the layout. If you have ideas, please share.
  12. Wow, thanks everyone for your great idea. After trying it out, I have come to the conclusion that while attaching the tracks directly to base plates is the easiest and cheapest, it gets troublesome when dealing with curves and track switcher. It cause the tracks to warp verticaly and makes the trains a bit less stable. I will try to save up and elevate the track. I really like those pieces that LegoBrandon shared. Hopefully my local Pick a Brick wall will stock those some day. In the meantime I may just use tiles. Regarding the link to The Kyle article, all I can say is Amazing! As for the moderator who asked me to introduce myself. No offence taken. I went ahead and posted in "Hello! My name is..." forum.
  13. Hi all, Just got back today with my first PAB ever at the Mississauga, Ontario, Canada Lego Store at Sherway Gardens. I built stacks of 1x2 and 1x1 and placed them in the grooves around the perimeter of the cup, then build a solid core and filled the rest with small pieces. I was in a rush because I had to pick up my kids at a certain time, but overall, I'm pleased with the haul. Some great pieces and neat colours. 756 pieces in all. Lots of kids filling up their holiday boxes. Mine was the large cup for $19.99.
  14. Hi there I used to play with Lego a lot when I was a kid. In Christmas 2010 I bought my own kids their first Lego set and couldn't believe how much Lego has advanced. Specifically I started buying the modulars. Unfortunately I missed out on the market street and cafe corner. I'm now converting my pool table into a Lego city and am really enjoying it. See my other post for my layout. I'm in Canada so prices for sets are quite high. I will be scanning the Canadian thread to see how others are getting their deals. So far I have been able to complete my old sets from my childhood through bricklinks, found a great local store in Mississauga, ON called Lasting Toys, ordered from B&N in the US, and from amazon.fr for some good deals. Looking forward to contributing to the community.
  15. Wow, that will be an amazing display when it's finished!
  16. I'm just getting started with trains and have a basic question. What do most people do about securing tracks to base plates? Do you secure it directly to the base plate? Do you add a plate between the track and the baseplate? How do you deal with non straight tracks? Do you add tiles under there or keep it uneven? Thanks. Sorry if the is a noob question.
  17. Lego has done it again! Can't wait to add this to my colletion.
  18. Amazing! love the piano and bathroom
  19. Hi There, I'm new here but am building my lego city on top of my pool table. I have a 4' x 8' area to work with and the following sets: 10185 Modular Green Grocer 10197 Modular Fire Brigade 10211 Modular Grand Emporium 10218 Modular Pet Shop 6754 Family Home 5891 Apple Tree House 7641 City Corner 7939 Cargo Train 7937 Train Station 7936 Level Crossing 7499 Flexible and Straight Tracks also have the following space sets from the 1980's but probably won't include them: 6950, 6970, 6980 also all baseplates shown are either owned or ordered I'd appreciate comments or suggestions on my layout. Also any suggestions on other sets that would compliment the layout? Here are some of my wants in the layout: I wanted complete loops for the train track I wanted the sets to be relatively close to the edge so my kids be able to reach them to play with them I wanted a water area Link to Bluebrick bbm file: here UPDATE: 2013 02 New layout: Update 2015 01: running out of room so my residences have been given the boot. I am thinking of expanding the platform to give 6 x 9.5 tiles (32x32).
