The Penguin

Good day! I'm The Penguin! Proud member of the glorious EB community and an AFOL, actually being a fan since 1989, when I got my first set. )

My favourite themes are Batman, Castle and Adventurers. It's interesting that two out of three themes are more or less historically oriented, which indicates that history is actually one of my main hobbies. Though, being an economist (and thus supposed to be a materialist ) I believe that history as it is should exist in a certain form. The most appropriate form for history is antiques. So now you know that I'm a collector as well.

People often ask me why I chose The Penguin as my alter ego. Is it because of the Batman villain character? Yes and no. )

I got a nickname "Penguin" long before the current hype around Bat-universe for a number of reasons:

1) I used to be somewhat corpulent in the past. However now I've lost about 25 kilos and buffed up. )

2) I have quite a pompous manner of speaking. The same with my behaviour. I suppose it's not very good, still it is so. That however does not affect my moralities, I hope.

3) I tend to wear official clothes only. And have a certain passion for bow-ties!

4) I usually carry an umbrella with me. Not that it contains a firethrower in it, or a gun. Still I've had a course of self-defense, and umbrellas can really be useful!

5) I wear a monocle. Ocasionally, of course.

6) I'm a keen theater-goer and just love the opera.

7) I really like penguins!

So as a result I was nicknamed "Penguin", which tured out to be very close of the typical discription of the character in Batman universe. It's actually fun that i never directly connected myself with the character, even having such a nickname, because I used to thin k of the character as seen in Tim Burton's movie. However, later when i learned about the classical image, was pleasantly surprised that we vere indeed alike. )

I've found many friends here, on EB since I joined, but it's always good to meet new people! So I'm always open to something new, and please don't hesitate to contact me, if you have any need or just for a friendly chat! )
