  1. these are great! I may have to print some, by the way I remember you saying about a wall chart type thing, how is that coming along (if it is at all)?
  2. Id definately buy some, and would it be possible to make cannons? shakos would be awsome but as you said you cant afford the mold at the moment. no worries, just let us know when you can!
  3. Source according to that, you could make a decal using this torso in red: click
  4. all my redcoats have red epoulets, to keep the whol red theme going, but the figure comes with blue ones, so when i get more, the red epoulets are going to have to turn into another unit or something
  5. A decal shouldnt be hard, as for the hat you could get away with a shako...
  6. yup i have some of those military line :D theyre quite fun, but the quality of the bricks puts me off combining them with real Lego...
  7. if it was a new line it may be only pirates... no guards/soldiers/armada, POTC would have all heros and 1 generic pirate or something, not to mention a lot of shadey things like the kraken, forget pirates is just wrong, and a port would be nice as long as it included sufficiently sized ships and forces. so Id go with a minifig scale ship
  8. its amazing! the shredded sails are a nice addition, and the detail is really nice, well done!
  9. its a fantastic set, cant think of anything wrong with it to be honest, even if the island is a bit small, the plate itself is still useful, and the rest of it is also very useful, walls can go toward a bigger fort, cannon can extend your ship, soldiers extend your army, boat extends err your boats, and the island prin is just cool
  10. very nice! I lvoe the russions, if I could aford to dish out on some shakos Id instantly be making a regiment, or two.
  11. In battle, a small section of the enemy fleet is always a bunch of renegade runners, simply because they are fast, manouverable and harder to hit, they are better for exploiting weak spots in the enemy line rather that the BSB which just blows things up
  12. good thing is, now I can start on it properly! need to order some bits and bobs of BL and a lot more cannons then finish her! I have opted for Fender Benders technique, as I have 2 gun decks, and both of which are completely enclosed, so I have 2 gundecks and a deck ontop, the technique still works nicely over multiple decks, and hopefully by the time all my BL orders arrive I will finish it pretty much on the day (im a fast builder - already done the stern today)
  13. ok second candidate is: Col Whipstick's flap style deck: ok, I only did half the deck because I couldnt find another hinge thing, but anyway: This was quite easy to make, and the end result is ok, however it will mean that there will be a line down both sides of the deck that may get annoying, also any components on the flap may have to be moved in order to fully open it. ok, this is what happens when the deck is lifted, it gives quite a good veiw and lots of access to the cannon decks, this may also be good for maintenence, as if a cannon becomes loose in the hull you can open the deck and get in there safely without having to demolish half the ship. ok, this is after having moved the guns out of the gunports, it was fast and easy, and pretty much nothing can go wrong about it, lik the other one, the cannons dont make a half hearted appearence, but they fully stick out, or stay inside, so all good there and finnaly, simply put the deck back down and your sorted, cant think of an easier building method, other than Tordenskjold's idea of forceps
  14. ok, so the first candidate is Fender Bender's twist operated cannons: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/admiral8...on/img_9885.jpg this is a shot from the side into the gun deck no cannons deployed, seems pretty snug but I wouldnt want to try and fit a crew down there! http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/admiral8...on/img_9886.jpg same shot but this time, the cannons are out! it worked out very smooth and a lot better than i thought it would, so im very pleased http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/admiral8...on/img_9887.jpg this is from the outside, the guns have been deployed, and stick out nicely, no wonkyness and no hassel http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/admiral8...on/img_9888.jpg another shot from the side, the cannons are back, and can easily be covered, I did not use the hinge system that SlyOwl suggested as there wasnt enough room. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/admiral8...on/img_9889.jpg ok a shot from the top now, the cannons are out, and there is not much visual difference on the deck, nice and tidy Hope this helps! edit changed pics too links, waay to big
  15. Not that bothered to be honest, forceps wouldnt take long (unless you have a fat 104 gunner or something) so that is probably easiest, tipping a ship over would be rather annoying as everything will fall of (stuff in barrels etc) Genious! (did i spell that right?) Isn't it handy? certainly is! fortunately no, just for show/inspiring fear into unfortunate soldiers/pirates it seems there is a lot to be learned here, tommorow Im going to try at a cross section showing my interpretation of each and how useful they are. thanks guys!
  16. yea but i rise to challenges >:-) Il find a way, and will post it up on here if anyone else is interested
  17. I respect anyone who can have the self disciplin to NOT open these sets, I know i would! but then again I hardly got any pirate sets...
  18. :-X need i say more? its pretty depressing really, i mean the castle line changes, but never stops, same with town etc, so why stop pirate altogether? (for those who are about to say 'they didnt stop it, they got 4+ pirate!' - i dont class this as pirate, more a waste of plastic)
  19. I was going to make a completely removable deck, but as the masts will all be strung up with each other, it will be hard to remove it without taking the entire top deck off including the masts. so basically use the cannons to hold brick built cannons? hmmm its certainly easier but id feel i was cheating myself by having 2 sets of cannons I know what you mean, and it should work fine, not sure about the stability of the decks after said editing, but its worth a shot (no pun intended)
  20. Ok my ship has started construction (did have an old one but twas not good enough) this ship will be used in gaming and I want the gunports to open and close (easy enough) but the cannon to stick out. its not that easy because I want a deck above the guns, so whenever the gunports opened or closed, I would have to take the deck off and physically move them, any ideas?
  21. Found it very fun and informative, thanks! Ill have to search for part 1 and give it a read too
  22. hi everybody! new redcoat here to help you guys out! I dont have enough of any faction to make much of an impact, but im backing the reds anyway. *sweet*
