Maybe I should re-word that passage then. If you were given, for example, Clayface's backstory in any other mafia game, you would just play the role as well as you could with the information you're given in your role PM. This will be all we ask in this game, it's just a bonus if you're familiar with the character you choose and you'll probably do a better job portraying them if they appeal to you. I have no objections to letting players give their own take on their characters. We put lots of work into the game, so I don't want to have to start cutting characters if I can avoid it.

Seriously? Not enough sign-ups for a mafia game? I guess I'll have to keep this thread going for a bit longer and hope we get some more interest. If it is this roleplaying aspect that is putting people off, please don't let it. This game is first and foremost a mafia game, not a roleplaying game. All mafia games involve playing a role of some kind, so just because these characters and their theme exists already doesn't mean to say you have to be the world's biggest Batman fan to play them. Just treat this game like any other. I can't understand why there isn't enough interest.

Don't put to much emphasis on the roleplaying. This is a mafia game after all, and not an RPG. This aspect is just a bit of fun and is my attempt to prevent comments like 'all mafia games are played the same and end up becoming indistinguishable'. The audition doesn't affect your chances of entry too much, but does demonstrate your knowledge of your chosen character, and also lets me see your ability to write properly. I'm almost as serious as Hinckley when it comes to spelling and grammar, and I see there's definitely room for improvement with some of you!

EDIT: I've changed 'interest in the Batman theme' to 'interest in the Batman universe', as I wasn't meaning the LEGO theme. Sorry for this.

The Iceberg Lounge is closed for the night, and The Penguin is taking this opportunity to discuss business with Maximilian Zeus in his office. We are looking for 24 players to portray some of the Batman franchise’s most evil and best loved villains. These are: - Baby Doll - Bane - Black Mask - Calendar Man - Catwoman - Clayface - Deadshot - Egghead - Harley Quinn - Hush - Killer Croc - Man-Bat - Mr Freeze - Mr Zsasz - Poison Ivy - Ra’s Al Ghul - Simon The Pieman - The Creeper - The Mad Hatter - The Music Meister - The Riddler - The Scarecrow - The Ventriloquist - Two-Face With these characters being somewhat unusual in that they exist outside of the game, some other special rules have been put in place… Players are expected to fully take on their roles in order to make the game more enjoyable and a more realistic expansion of the Batman Universe. This means that they will be expected to know how to act, behave and present their posts in the style of their assigned character. However, players should not take this to the level where the character they’re playing influences the way they play and the decisions they make. Because you play as super villains, you all effectively have super powers at your disposal. All players will have both an Action and a Skill, all of which are active and must be played during the night. There are no passive powers, so none will be played automatically. To make the selection process a little more interesting, potential players have the chance to ‘audition’ for the character they would like to play in-game. This will allow you to show off how well you would fit your chosen role and give us a good idea who will make the game fun, while keeping closely to the theme. Sign-ups must include the following information: - Your chosen character - Your availability during the coming few weeks - Your previous Mafia game history - Your existing interest in the Batman universe Because applicants will be choosing a particular villain to represent, only one sign-up for each character will be successful. If you are unsuccessful in trying for your chosen character, you will not be allowed to play as another character, unless that character has no other applicants, in which case the most suitable declined participant will fill the gap. Reserves will be kept to cover for players that drop out. Please post your responses in the style of your chosen character in this thread. Sign-ups will end on Sunday 6th November, or earlier if enough support is shown.
