  1. I know I don't have any MOCs for the area on the map below, but I have a good name and story for it (at least I think it's good) so I would like to recommend it to the Master Cartographer to be made official. Darlig Ulv-Stranden (loosely translates to Bad Wolf Bay): Originally founded by Northern Adventurers who were looking for new lands to explore and opportunities to increase their wealthy. Ships would come to the bay and unload Adventurers who would then go exploring their way back to their northern home over land. Eventually a port and docks were built and a few small trade shops as some Adventurers would bring back items they had found to sell and trade with other Adventurers or ship back home while they went back out to explore more. As the area became more developed fewer new Adventures would come thinking all the good finds in the area had been found already and the older Adventures had moved on as they found better riches on the other side of the mountains or land routes back to their homelands. Some of the Northerners did stay though preferring the warmer climate to their cold homeland. After a while though the small trading village became a haven for pirates, thieves and other criminals to conduct their lawless business, it's remote location proving ideal for this. A few years ago Samurai Master Katsumoto, and his clan, chased a group of bandits to the small village and felt that he was lead here to bring order to the chaos. Katsumoto and his clan of samurai and ninjas began to settle the area bringing their Oriental style of architecture to the already mish-mash of Northern and Southern styles present in the village. Katsumoto is trying to bring in more honest traders to the village, but he is not unaware that the economy there does thrive on a certain level of illegal activity. As long as you keep your less than legal business quite and it doesn't affect others in the village a blind eye is turn to your activities. However if your business gets out of hand, you will probably be visited by Katsumoto's ninjas and never heard from again. Slavery and murder are not tolerated and will get you a public execution. Darlig Ulv-Stranden is still a good place for independent traders of all kinds to find work, both legal and otherwise, and a good place for the careful shopper to find items and goods not available in markets anywhere else, but watch your step because Katsumoto's ninjas are everywhere and watching. Once I get my stuff together and photographed, this will be the main port that my captain and crew will visit to find work (but they will be traveling to other ports as well). Anyone is welcome to build here as the area has several types of people living in it and several styles of structures. I plan on building a docks for ships but there doesn't have to be just one in the area. Shops, taverns and other structures to appeal to traveler/adventurers passing through would be welcome as well. Beside Katsumoto and his clan and my ships crew, I do have some other ideas for characters as well, but there is still plenty of room for other characters in this little town's story and competing business could make for some fun "drama". Anyway, it is up to the Guild leaders and Master Cartographer to make this official, but that is just my idea for the area. And if there is already something in that spot (sorry I haven't caught up with all the post yet) then perhaps somewhere else along the Eastern coast.
  2. That waterfall is awesome as well as your embassy. I would say the water feeds into an underground stream that comes out again somewhere else in Avalonia.
  3. Doesn't Barnes & Noble usually charge a little more than other places like a Lego Store, Target or Wal-Mart?
  4. I don't think I could accept myself if I bought any Friends set...way too much pink in there to feel the least bit manly. I think if I came home with a Friends set all my minifigs would come to life and pull a Gulliver's Travels scene on me. I can just imagine them trying to kill me with their little swords, axes and spears after making me watch them melt the Friends down into little plastic puddles. And if someone has the time to make a YouTube, stop-motion video of their Lego minifigs doing that please send me the link. My friend who told me about this site is all about staying yellow (except for skeletons and "demons"). Once I heard that LotR sets were going to be made I decided it was time to embrace the flesh.
  5. Thank you guys for all the comments and recommendations. It sounds like Kaliphlin is the guild for me. I can assure you that I don't have sand between my ears...all the sea water in there flushes it out. I may not end up with too checkered of a past (still writing the final version of the story in my head) but I'm not too worried about getting a checkered future. My signature character will be the seafarer and more than willing to try to help you out with that dragontooth (as long as I don't have to fight the dragon to get it) and that devil's bone even it means a trip into Nocturnus (yikes). I do have some of the older samurai and ninjas along with a few of the newer ninjas that I could use to start a small towns population and may even get the bug to make a little port and some buildings eventually. I don't think I'll ever get to Admiral status with a fleet but if you ever need an "independent contractor" to take on a shipment you may need to deny later, you know who to call. I have noticed most people (in all of the guilds) use yellow minifigs and I'm hoping that is just because they are more common. I've seen some forums where fleshy (peachies) are looked down upon as mutants and outcast. From what I've read so far I'm pretty sure that is not the case here but if it is then be prepared because I'll be bringing in some fleshy minifigs.
  6. I would guess she was included because Liv Tyler is a more recognizable actor than most of the other cast members (or because someone in the marketing department thought including her more would get him a date with her).
  7. I did some reading up on Kaliphlin Guild and while I had originally not planned on doing any land structures I do like their building policy. It did give me some ideas that my Samurai and Ninjas could find a home there and it could give me chance to try some Oriental style structures. If darker days are coming having some guild protection would not hurt and it seems like there will be plenty of "work" chances for a ship captain that doesn't ask too many questions. I'll see what I have and can put together and then go from there.
  8. Hey All, a friend of mine told me I should check this site out and I'm glad I did. You guys have some wonderful MOCs displayed and a cool premise to go along with them. I'm looking forward to seeing more of the works coming from the members here. I was wondering if there is any room in Historica for Privateers, not really belonging to any one guild but traveling to all of them? I was thinking it would be cool to do ship and crew sailing around looking for work (sort of like Firefly but not in space). So if you need goods (legal or otherwise) shipped you could call on this crew to do the job.
