  1. I'm thinking the same as Freddie here with the live axle at the rear of the off-roader. It looks like the front is connected to the chassis using the bendy-no-stud component, though. There must be some sort of tie rod arrangement to the rear also if it's fully live but it looks like a leaf spring attachment (similar to pre 1985/3 landrovers). It'll be interesting to see how TLC do the live axle (as it's a pain to make!). The motor suggests that it it powers several different things because of its size.(again, Freddie!). I'm starting to think that the new technic will be able to be 'remote controlled' by buying the sensor and remote (as advertised in the new s@h) with the omission of a second model (I remember a message mentioned here about TLC asking if people built the second model) and 'extra' parts to fit the new bits in. On another note, it's a shame to see the demise of the pnuematics in the crane designs; They were a real feature. I assume that TLC are using the screw mechanism as it is more reliable but it'll make a really horrible noise. At least it'll combat the problems when a hose pops off deep in the centre of your creation!
  2. Me, my brother and my friends buy it for each other all the time. Me and my brother make sure we get at least one set on our birthdays and christmas each!! (I'm currently sat next to 7991 dustcart that I'm thinking about keeping for myself and getting something else for him!) For my 33rd birthday I got the big tie fighter (in my avatar) and an at-st from a friend and I've just opened the advent calendar bought by his girlfriend for me...(more reasons to keep the dustcart!!). We've always built together and really enjoy the big technic kits with one picking the bits and one building, then swapping. We've done this since the late 70's and it works as long as you don't spill beer in the sorting tubs! I hope this doesn't sound weird :-/
  3. It wasn't supposed to be but as you're in the mood...make it so you pirate rascall! ;-)
  4. The certificate I had was for a 'master builder' too. Years later I'd worked out that it was a promotion based on time in the club and not for skill...oh the shattered illusions!!
  5. Yes, I've a bunch of star wars LEGO and favor the imperials!. Bit annoyed as I bought a new cabanet for my living room only to find my big tie fighter won't fit *n* !. Thanks all for your warm welcome and i look forward to talking with you in the forums.
  6. Good to meet you S.G.C; A fellow member of the dark side I see!
  7. I've recently found my old "LEGO builders club' certificate from 1981 - 1982 and was wondering if there were any other old members out there? I remember we got a magazine of some sort and I really remember the stickers which me and by brother plastered all over an old wardrobe. I think the club address was in Wrexham in Wales and I remember visiting my aunt near Wrexham thinking the local hills were full of plastic bricks (and not lead or slate etc!!). I was member number 15435 and I think the signature is from Mr Clive Nichols.... but maybe I'm wrong. Any other memories?
  8. As children, me and my bro used to store our LEGO in an old set of drawers so my favourite sound is LEGO rattling inside an old drawer. (him finding while I built, we used to take turns!) The worst sound is a your last technic peg rattling off your desk and on to a wooden floor, to disappear in to the LEGO vanishing triangle of doom.... never to be seen again!. PS first post...please see my 'my name is'!!!
  9. Hello, Everyone. My name is Gary or xzanfr as on here. I'm 33 and I've just acknowledged my designation as an AFOL (it's a little bit like an A.A. meeting!) I, like my fellow new member Flossie, was an avid collector of the 'old' castle LEGO but I'm now working on a working, technic model of a Landrover series 3 (going well) and a rollercoaster (going dangerously wrong!). I've been reading the comments you have all left for some time now but there's too many things that I want to comment on so I've made the leap to being active. I was spurned on to join following the find of my LEGO club certificate from 1981 / 1982 in a recent move... (perhaps my first new topic?) I look forward to 'talking' with you all in the future. G
