  1. like when you have two wall switches in a room which control the same light. that's a 3-way switch (i believe they call it a 2-way switch on the other side of the pond). it should have a contact button like sensor bricks and sounds bricks have, though, rather than a toggle like a wall switch. 2. ditto that. the site is so unnavigable that it feels more like a pacifier than a genuine conduit. KEvron
  3. been getting some complaints, have you? KEvron
  4. it's really cool! i'm gonna have to look into ldd. KEvron
  5. neato! really, i'm honored. i'm pretty much done with that clock. i've moved on to other projects. being a luddite, i wouldn't know what to do with the file, but feel free to share it with anyone who wants to build the clock. KEvron
  6. of course. rope, string or monofilament. however, the cogs for this piece are designed for chains. you'd have to redesign that part of the clock. add a winding system, preferably with a differential. huh. it's demanding that i log in. i've never encountered that before when cruising flickr. 7. never have. i'm not a member of any local user groups. it's do-able, though. i've displayed it in the homes of friends and family by means of a stand i built for it out of lego and a double-weighted pendulum (allows me to make the pendulum shorter; the stand is only 64L tall). i've considered a public viewing, but the notion doesn't exactly overwhelm me. i'm not partial to crowds. 8. why not give us both? a small and a new micro. you'd think a micro would sell like hotcakes....
  9. after a few weeks of heel dragging, i've finally put the finishing touches on the final instructional video.
  10. i suggest a visit to either bricklink or peeron. both sites offer set inventories. you can peruse the inventories of the currently available sets, and then determine which set best meets your needs. KEvron
  11. 7mm ribbed hose becomes a whistle when you blow through it. it has to be a rather long piece of hose for the effect to work, however; a 30mm segment may not produce the effect. KEvron
  12. har-har. let's get #10 out of the way. KEvron
  13. ....btw, mods, i'm unable to access member profiles, including my own. is there a probationary period, or is this problem unique to me? if anyone reading this would pass along this concern to the mods, i'd greatly appreciate it. KEvron
  14. from a practical poit of view: the qar offers more hull pieces (the bp's hull is incomplete), and they're brown, so they'll match those in your imperial flagship set. important factors to consider if you're into moc'ing. KEvron
  15. joined up when i'd found someone had embedded my videos here. i'm a gearhead. my focus is almost exclusively on clocks. horolego, i call it. i post my work at YouTube as KEvronista. yes, i sign all my posts and comments. always have and always will. it's my Seal of Assurance, my way of saying "i am accountable for this." no, i don't mix lego and politics. 16. 952 tractor. it was the very last set i ever received as a kid. an instant classic. it was such a departure from any set i'd ever received before. outside of the model, i had no idea what to do with those wonderful gears, but they offered such promise! i've since purchased "better" sets as an adult, but none could ever deliver the joy that set gave me. 17. no, i'm afraid not. 24 hours has been challenging enough. KEvron
  18. it's not really a matter of how long it will run as it is of drop rate. the weights on this clock drop at a rate of 2"/hr (5.1cm/hr); after 24 hours, the weights will have dropped a total of 48" (1.2m). a proper "1 day clock" should run for 30 hours before the weight must be reset, and so i've added sufficient chain length to this clock to achieve that duration. 19. thanks for the warm welcome, and for the gracious commendation. since my re-introduction to lego a decade ago, i've focused almost exclusively on clocks. it's been on-again-off-again in that time, and even when it's on-again, i'm easily distracted, so the question of "how long to build?" is a tough one to answer. it was last fall that i attempted the arnfield escapement. proof of concept came rather quickly, but i fret ad absurdum over minor details, so the finished piece took another several weeks. even then, i continue to tinker on the thing. anal retention is actually a good trait for a clockmaker! the idea of a lego clock was one i'd had since i was kid, so i can't say that anyone inspired me per se. however, i did find great encouragement in the successes of others. leo dorst freely offered his design. eric harshbarger's grandfather clock set the standard. benvandewaal has mastered the art of the lego escapement. horolego (as i like to call it) is a rather esoteric pursuit; i've taken it upon myself to try to foster a sense of community among its pursuers. 20. i'm still kicking myself for failing to purchase the 8455 backhoe a few years ago. what an introduction to pneumatics that set would have made. i've been waiting for another set as good as that one to get me into pneumatics. still waiting.... KEvron
  21. hey! you stole my videos! expect to hear from my lawyer. heh. i do hope someone will attempt to build the thing, not as a matter of vanity, but it'd be nice to have independent verification, just to assure the skeptics. i haven't yet made the tutorial video, but i'm happy to answer any questions in the meantime.
