With real estate prices skyrocketing, many are searching for an affordable living situation. However, they need look no further than the 'brickpartment' building; the perfect place for a minifigure to live. Using refurbished Lego bricks, each apartment is fully furnished with a kitchen, bathroom, and sleeping space, this makes it both eco-friendly and accommodating. This building also welcomes pets so that you can have your furry, scaly or feathered friend with you.
This build shows that even though real estate is getting more and more expensive, there are alternate options for places to live. Specifically, container living is economical, environmentally friendly, and still a comfortable living option.
My build supports the idea that although containers are boxy and usually unattractive, when you take the time to customize and personalize them they become amazing homes. Each apartment has its own style and uses the space differently. The blue apartment has a more minimalist, beachy style, giving it a more relaxing, peaceful vibe. The green apartment, however, has a vintage, nostalgic style which gives it a cozy and warm vibe. Lastly, the red apartment is a techno modern style making it futuristic and fun.
I was inspired to build this by the brick costume collectible minifigures from series 18 and 20. The apartments are designed to look like 2x3 bricks stacked together in a fun and attractive way, they are also scaled to be roughly 8x bigger. Each apartment has it's own unique style tailored to the minifigure residing there.
The story of the creation of this design started on a late Sunday morning in spring. I had always wanted to make homes for all of my minifigures and I was really into my brick costume minifigures at the time. I started playing around with the idea of making their homes look like Lego bricks and that's when the idea really took off. I came up with the scale, colors, and dimensions while listening to the Josh Groban Awake album. Sadly, I didn't fine tune the build until about almost a year later when I got Bricklink Studio. However, once I downloaded it, I finished and polished the build very quickly. Although, there were some challenges along the way...
It was difficult to fit all the basic necessities into such a small space, so I had to make things smaller than I originally wanted. However, after trial and error I added bathrooms in each apartment and tried to differentiate the floor plan. I also tried to make them more unique by choosing different styles and 'materials' for each level with the outside being completely modern and clean. Thus, I found the balance between aesthetics and functionality. I tried using a variety of building techniques from SNOT to some of the basic, fundamental techniques commonly used by builders.
This is a Lego Product Idea designed by me meant to showcase the benefits of container living and encourage sustainability. If it reaches 10,000 supporters by a certain time, it will be reviewed by a Lego team and they will decide as to whether or not it will be made into an official Lego set.
