Built in 1989 by UK Master Builder Andy Murphy, this large‑scale LEGO bust was created exclusively for the WCRS.MM Advertising campaign, based at Great Queen Street, Holborn, London.
✅ Background & History
The project was fully official and documented — appearing in Bricks ’n Pieces – Autumn 1989 and Today Newspaper – November 1989. Shortly before release, the campaign was cancelled and instructed to be completely destroyed.
This example was rescued directly before destruction took place — and remains the only one known to exist today. I worked at the agency at that time and have held it continuously ever since.
🔍 Construction & Authenticity
• Brick mould codes & material quality confirm manufacture ~ 1987‑1989 — exactly matching the build date
• Fully glued & mounted — finished display quality, not a loose prototype or test piece
• Visible differences compared to old press photos are only from missing / detached outer sections — clear glue marks prove extra layers (lip, nose base, hair framing) were originally fitted, then lost over decades
• Core brick‑by‑brick layout matches perfectly — not a separate or “second version” design
📢 Current Goal
Experts are currently debating whether only one model was built — or if an additional prototype / earlier version also existed. The aim now is to locate Andy Murphy to confirm the exact build record and settle the history once and for all.
This piece represents rare, professionally built LEGO heritage — and the sole surviving trace of a famous project otherwise lost to history.
