I've been working on the recreation of the old Budapest M1 metro cars since my previous posts. The build itself is 8 studs wide. I tried to be as accurate as possible with the proportions, but had to make some small compromises unfortunately. The main goal was for it to run on R40 Lego tracks which is now officially achived, along with major changes to the bogies and the upper segment of the Motor car. Update: the train has gone through a complete redesign and it now resembles the original much better than it did previously. My goal was to reduce the extra details I previously added and this time go for the full historical accuracy. The original line opened in 1896 and was the first electrified metro on the european continent, made for the millenial anniversary of Hungary. It runs under Andrássy Avenue to this day and is now part of the UNESCO world heritage. The most interesting part of this MOC's creation was the fact that I started working on it on May 2nd which coincidentally was the 130th anniversary of the line's opening, so you could say that it's destiny🤔 Technical side: Around 1100 pieces depending on the versions, 8 studs wide and roughly 45 studs long, I designed it for display presence and it has 3 removable roof sections. Even though now, without the extra detail removing the roof sections is a bit harder. The bogie design doesn't allow for motorization due to it being small, but i'm not going to take the L and leave that easy so I made the original control which has also recieved some love in the recent redesign. As you can see it was actually the first to get updated, since the Schlick motorcar was still in it's previous form. I again had to make a few compromises on stability, it should stay together but it requires some care when handling. Motorisation: The thing that makes this easy is the fact that these control cars only had 2 axles, so one of them can easily be motorised. This did not change in the redesign. Interiors: The interiors posed a small challenge when it comes to the benches and later in the redesign the SNOT mounted side panels. The interior of the control car didn't change apart from a few small mounting points for the windows. Here's the current Ganz version which I also modified a bit to run on R40, I'm working on motorisation now: aaaand for a little extra, the other type of Schlick motorcar next to this brown one: Hope you still like the new version!
